RMN and ESRB

author=GreatRedSpirit
The ESRB labels are trademarkedso we couldn't use them legally. At best we'd have to make our own knockoffs and use those if we did.

Oh yeah! I totally forgot about the whole trademark thing. There are indeed other words to describe each age group, but I understand that it honestly wouldn't be worth the effort unless staff decided to do it anyways. Thanks for the swift reply!

RMN and ESRB

Hey everyone, just had a quick thought in my mind about something. I've been searching through the game list on RMN lately for some new content to dig into, and through scrolling and seeing the various titles,it got me wondering...is it possible to add an ESRB rating system in the "Details" section of your game page some day in the distant future? I'm not going to speak of the game that got me wondering on this, however.

I know its not really necessary, as it is simply extra fluff, but I was thinking it would be cool to add ESRB ratings on games. We pretty much get new stuff all the time and lots of titles means lots of possibilities for content. While we do get "Genre" and "Flavors" in our game pages, one thing we don't know is age audience.

Since this is a free site with people of all ages developing and posting games together, that means that anyone of any age can access all content without knowing what kind of content they're getting into. Does the game have mild language, partial nudity, sexual themes, blood and gore, etc?

Again, this is something that should be taken with a grain of salt as I know it is just a thought; not something that will happen or anything of the sort.

I played FF7 after playing Phantasy Star 4 and found the former very lacking. I quit playing once I realized that I didn't give a shit about anyone except the wolflion and the cat on a plushie.

That's my FF7 story, thank you for reading.

I'm not gonna lie, that is the best story I've heard in a LONG time XD. Very descriptive. I really like the part about the cat on a plushie. I remember a friend and I generalized the cast. He called Cloud a test tube baby,Vincent an emo vampire, Tifa a busty bartender lady, and a few other things lol.

But yeah, I would love to see a remake of Phantasy Star 4. I loved the Comic Book cutscenes to death. The MMO series look fun, but we haven't seen a mainstream Phantasy Star game in AGES. I think the last mainstream one I heard about was PS Zero for DS.

Remakes Galore!

With the dream of a remake coming true, there is a LOT to be concerned and hyped about simultaneously. There are rumors of PS5 coming out before 2020 and it may be moved over to it eventually. Since the game is episodic, there are a lot of things that both concern me and have me excited about this method. I know Nomura is a great developer, but will they be able to recatch that magic once before? We'll see eventually, but with the trailers we've gotten so far, I'm very impressed.

Some of the many things that worry me about this is...
  • The adult material...you guys know what I'm talking about
  • How will the story be divided
  • Will the previous save transfer over to future episodes?
  • Will some Materia be scrapped due to some of them being designed around turn-based combat?
  • Will Vincent and Yuffie be mandatory characters?
  • What will the weapon fights be like?
  • Will we be able to play as Sephiroth or Zack in Cloud's flashbacks?
  • How long will each episode be split apart
  • Will there be a future release that will blend all 3 games into one?
  • Gold Saucer

I will be honest, at first, I did not get a lot about FF7 until I actually played through it a few times, played Crisis Core, and watched Advent Children. Not only, that but there is Dirge of Cerberus(never got to play), and Before Crisis. With the engine they have, is it possible to create small DLC episodes with Zack, the Turks, or even a Sephiroth DLC? Till this day, Square is literally still adding on to FF15 with episodes based on Noctis' party. So, why not do the same for 7? I'm not asking for them to do an entire Crisis Core remake(which would be great if made in the FF7R engine), but just a series of episodes to expand it.

Not that any of these are ever going to happen, but I'm gonna toss some ideas out there anyway...
  • Episode AVALANCHE(A brief prequel showing how the group formed)
  • Episode Zack(The chunk towards the end of his story)
  • Episode Sephiroth/SOLDIER
  • Episode Turks
  • Episode Wutai

The thing is, FF7's characters are so well developed, that nearly each one could have their own side content(hence why some got their own games), but these could easily be told in the main game as well. I'd rather have content built in than have to pay $15.00 for something that last like a few hours.

I'd love a Link's Awakening remake, or even the Oracle games. I hated the controls for the GB Zelda games and the constant menu work to change the item on the A/B buttons. Just take LADX and add support for more buttons and it's good to go!

e:
also Link to the Past > Link Between Worlds

I totally forgot about a link between worlds. That basically is a LTTP remake in a sense. The only one I'm wanting right now is Link's Awakening. Though, I got very close to beating the oracles, but the battery packs in the cartridges broke so it erased my saves. Good thing there are digital copies nowadays.

Remakes Galore!

I really agree with Marrend on the Legend Of Zelda remake. Recently, I just finished Breath of the Wild and I'm pining to see a remake of the original or a Link to the past with that kind of scale. Of course, I'm not certain that the map has to be THAT big, but something in that area.

But you know one game that I would love to see get a remake of? The Legend of Zelda:Link's awakening. I can imagine a cell-shaded Zelda game reminiscent of Wind Waker HD. Marin actually got released as a playable character in Hyrule Warriors. I'm just hoping the game gets a remake in my lifetime. Another would be the oracle series, but they would be mixed into one big game instead of 2 separate ones.

You guys know how Crash Nsane trilogy has been getting all this hype? It got me thinking, why not do the same thing for Spyro the Dragon or the original 2 Sonic Adventure games? I also doubt Nintendo would ever do it, but why not remake one of the original Earthbound games in honor of Iwata?

Man, there are just so many ideas out there for remakes its overwhelming. Not that these are happening or anything, but we can all dream right?

Remakes Galore!

To be honest, I'm not sure which companies' practices I hate more. Konami with Castelvania or Capcom with Mega Man.

I currently own Sonic 06 and still go back to it from time to time. If there is any game in history that needs a redemption, its that one. I know why it turned out the way it did(rushing out for 15th anniversary, split team, etc), but still. Its like they released a beta version.
Dude, I don't know what you did in your past life, but I think you've paid your penance and then some. You don't need to keep doing that to yourself.

Haha!! This made my day XD. I only go back to it because it is literally the last Sonic game that had multiple playable characters. It is the only 3D Sonic game where I can play as Blaze. To be honest, I haven't gone back to it in almost a year. Playing it is indeed a chore to behold.

Why does Square-Enix routinely hire terrible voice talent? It's almost like a running joke. =__= The graphics are also terribly lazy in that trailer.

DKC 2
I think it'd be incredible if they reinvigorated this trilogy (especially 2) with an aesthetic closer to the photo-real vibe they had in the originals. The sequels we received on Gamecube and Wii were pretty forgettable.

Final Fantasy IX
Won't hold my breath for this. XD

Mario RPG
The zany NPCs and humorous writing would be awesome for a modern SE-Nintendo collab - heck even a 3DS/iOS port would be cool.

MegaMan X
Mighty No. 9 was billed a spiritual successor, but it was mostly atrocious.

Haha!! I agreed on that point. The voice actor sounds a bit cheesy+whiny at the same time. Hopefully it improves over time. It sounds like he would say "whoa gnarly" any second now.

Mega Man X was remade for PSP and Android tho, but I assume you mean a High Definition Remake for next-gen consoles? Capcom has been treating Mega Man like utter garbage lately. With the exception of the re-releases and the inclusion of X,Zero, and Sigma in MVCI. We've been dried out waiting for a new Mega Man for almost a decade :( Although Mighty No.9 bombed, you should check out Mighty Gunvolt Burst, it gives us the MN9 we wanted. I would point a remake towards Mega Man X7

Final Fantasy VIII and IX were also going to be on my list because I played them recently and with the hype of FF7R, it was a no-brainer. I was avoiding them for the longest time, but they ended up being masterpieces. Time well spent XD

do you remember Castlevania 64 and Castlevania Adventure for Game Boy? The early 64 titles could use some love lol.

@kentona
Dragon Quest 9 was one of my favorites. I remember playing it like an addict on DS. I hear DQX is coming over to the US...I think? Something about character creation always makes me interested in a campaign longer than I should.

Remakes Galore!

Lately, I've been wondering about the status of games such as the Final Fantasy 7 remake, and from what I've heard, its good news. But...I was not expecting Square Enix to hit us with another remake bombshell...That's right folks! A Secret of Mana remake! I'm blown away! This was the very first game me and my brother purchased on the Wii Virtual Console back in like 2010. Man, its been ages.

So this topic is just for fun, but I would like everyone to name their top 5 dream games they wish would be remade. Even if your dream remakes are far from reality, it doesn't matter, just get them out there. These remakes could be because the game was bad, or the game was really good. For example, I've always wondered what a Quest 64 remake would be like XD.

MY TOP 5(Random Order)
  • Skies of Arcadia
  • Final Fantasy 6
  • Legend of Dragoon
  • Phantasy Star 4
  • Chrono Trigger

For a secret runner up, I would have added Zelda:Link's Awakening
