Final Fantasy IV Alter Destiny

@Sphere

I went ahead and went through the final dungeon, beat the boss, and saw the ending (which was very nice BTW).

I'm now in the midst of the bonus dungeon:

I had a pretty easy time up until Sephiroth. Supernova is evil! Ultimecia was even worse! I cruised through the next 3 with ease until I met Airy. I don't know which game she's from, but she is a genuine nightmare! I'm running low on X-Potions and that "Slaughter" technique isn't helping. BTW, is there anyway to exit out and restock on items? I can walk back as far as Sephiroth's room, but Cecil won't jump anymore.

I'm having a blast right now and the bonus dungeon is everything I wanted and more so far, regarding challenge. Great job on making things interesting!

So basically I'm screwed. I'm using 2.7 and tried to get 2.9.2, but my save wouldn't work. Is there anyway to fix the Lunar Core B8 teleporter issue with my version? The thought of starting the game completely over is very unappealing to me.

If I download 3.0 in full and just transfer my saves over to that folder, will that suffice?
It would be the same thing unfortunately. See, for some reason VX Ace's save files only are compatible with the programming scripts that are currently in place within the game you're playing. If a dev makes any changes to those programming scripts, especially significant ones that fix or alter things during battles or on maps or something, then those save files won't work with that new programming because they won't be compatible. Sometimes you get lucky with a new version of a VX or VX Ace game and your save file still works (although you might run into glitches later), but often times this is what happens.

Oh well. Good to know for the next time I play a game in Ace. I'll just wait until most of the bugs are gone before I even start. I just don't have enough time to restart the game from scratch when something major needs changing.

Started my walkthrough, all works fine for now. By the way, really like that minimap, allowing pass around monsters. Even random encounters are good feature of "oldschool FFs", sometimes they are very often so begin bothering player.
Thanks! Although I don't mind random encounters, I do like when we have some sort of advance notice, or if we're able to get around them if we're down low on health.

I beat Rank AAA in the arena on Ultra difficulty!!!

My level was mid 60s. That guy is my favorite boss on my favorite RPG by Square. I would've loved to have fought him on foot too. A 4 on 4 vs Grahf, Id, Ramsus, and Miang would be a dream come true!

I also ran into the Troia Castle bug too. I have my doubts about ever getting to see what happens with that situation due to the older version I'm using.

Congratulations! That is a TOUGH thing to do on Ultra difficulty! =D As for the Troia Castle bug with that particular character in the infirmary, it has been fixed in the latest version but yeah, with your older version VX Ace screwed you on that. My apologies about that, I hated it when that happened to me with another game awhile back.

Since I've done what was required to trigger that scene, can you at least PM me with what happens?

Another thing too:

Will I have an issue accessing the bonus dungeon due to the Lunar Core B8 bug? As it stands, once I go there, I can't leave. An Exit spell would've been greatly appreciated over the course of this game.

That has to do with that warning he has posted a few times. With vx ace, it unfortunately glitches saves if new programming was added in afterwords, which is why he advises backing up the version you had to be safe.

Thanks. The reason I downloaded the newest patch in the first place was because:

I have the Lunar Whale now and when I tried to go back to Baron Castle, they wouldn't let me in (like it was when Cagnazzo was king).

I just reverted to the previous patch I had and everything is ok, but the bug regarding the castle is still there.

Edit: I also encountered another bug:

After getting the Lunar Whale, if you go back to the Tower of Prayer behind the Crystal Room in Mysidia the event involving the Lunar Whale coming out of the ocean is replayed and can be done so repeatedly.

I'm running 2.7, so I don't know if it's already been fixed in a later patch, but unfortunately for me, the latest patch crashes my saved game.

I just added the latest data patch and got this as soon as I loaded my saved game:

Help?

I'm definitively going to have to do an ultra difficulty run at some point. I only did normal the first time around because I was more interested in seeing all the changes.

From what I can tell, with my current levels/gear, the arena AAA match is impossible (least with my setup it is). stomp in particular destroys me due to it applying slow while hes already faster than me. In fact he keeps up even if I do pull off slowing him and hasting someone. My efforts have been fruitless with levels 50-51 (last arena match leveled me quite a bit), with full diamond gear. I think my best bet is moving on with the story to unlock more gear (in particular I need to find pieces of gear that negate the slow status). With that said, time to take my trip to the moon.

Should also mention I also didn't get the anima reference (and he was the first arena boss to stop me until I worked out a strategy), but then I couldn't get through ff13 due to the corridors. I need my exploration. that also made me not get the direct sequel even if it may be better. I've played a ridiculous amount of rpg/strategy games so I caught most of the references though.

Personally, I stopped after FF10. I don't like MMOs, so no 11. I tried 12, but just couldn't get into it mostly due to the characters and the battle system. The battle system was more Action RPG, which is too easy to exploit IMO. Don't get me wrong, I like Action RPGs, just not when it comes to Final Fantasy. When I saw some gameplay footage of 13, I just cringed. Very pretty game, but severely lacking in substance. Walking down a tube for most of the game is definitely NOT appealing to me. 15 is also pretty, but I'd rather do my hacking and slashing with a full blown action game such as Devil May Cry/Bayonetta/God of War. Sometimes simple is better.

Well, I finally met my match.

I lost to Anima (which FF does this one belong to?) in the battle arena. I think I'm Rank D now. I'm determined to beat him on Ultra difficulty just like all the others. Storywise, I just made it back to the Overworld after Cid did his kamikaze.

I really enjoy a lot of the little differences here and there. Looking forward to those bonus dungeons.
