Working around cliche? Writing discussion..
Cliches can still work. Just look at the movie Avatar.
That movie is stuffed with cliches, but it somehow became the most grossing movie ever.

You could do some sort of riddle incorporating the roman numerals.

I suppose holding out his hands a little longer during the strike would make it look better even though it is frame-by-frame right now. Right now it looks like a really quick flick which doesn't give much intensity in how the character executes it. I also compared a video of the original and there's a longer pause between the charge-up sound and the actual magic-strike. All of this is my opinion though.

Battle system is basically finished. Will have a proof of concept demo out in a day or so. :)
Less getting the sword on the back and more holding out hands I think.

I'm working out multiple things for MGS ver1.9. I'm really hoping this will be the last update I have to go through, so I'm going through it all very thoroughly.
I've added a few extras and worked out some potential glitches, but it's hard to know if I'll miss something out.

Oh,there's many I can think of, but let's just pick a few.
- Golden Sun (psynergy and djinn for starters)
- Ar tonelico (like pretty much everything about it, especially hymmnos)
- Final Fantasy IX (especially the mountain world above mist-world setting)
- Touhou (they got that small realm pretty packed with anything possible)
