Soda Time!

I used to drink a lot of soda back in the day (That and instant ramen soup was pretty much my diet when I was in school). I had at least one can a day for I don't know how long I kept that up, but eventually I grew sick of the stuff. Now I mostly drink water.

But every once in a while I still indulge in one of these. Sangría flavored soda is best soda.

Let's Draw! Galactic Super Police Characters! -Event Over!-

So wait, are we going to do more than one character? Or just one character + five expressions? ...Either way, sign me up! =P

Click here to see some awesome boobies.

Heh; This never gets old... Now, I don't care about tits (or cocks, for that matter. =P) but boobies are awesome. How come there are no boobie videogame characters? I bet they would give Sonic a run for its money.

Where would your life be without RPG Maker?

I'd probably would have never given up on painting, and specially drawing... In high school, I used to draw a comic of me and my friends, sometimes re-imagining our shenanigans in various fantasy settings and stuff. I filled almost three notebooks that way, one page a day (Yeah, I didn't use to pay much attention during class xD). And before I first heard of rpg maker, I was learning how to set one of those crappy Geocites sites to start a web comic with my own characters. I even drew a few to get things rolling.

But then I leatrned about rpg maker. Got a bunch of Chrono Trigger rips, and I replicated Crono's house the best I could. Put Crono in there, and just looking at him walking around blew my mind; Like, in the most literal way possible.

And to be honest, I kind of regret that now. Games are probably the best medium ever, and a great outlet for your creativity, but they demand so much more time and effort to get things done. Just to make a simple scene I not only have to draw something and slap some text into it, but I have to sprite, write, map, direct, synchronize, edit, test, test, test, test, and at the end of the day things never look like you pictured them anyway. And games keep getting better and better each year, and you just can't keep up... -_-

What are you thinking about right now?

I can't stand Gaga either. But curiously enough, 'Bad Romance' is the only song of hers that I like, so I'd be Ok with that...

I could listen to Taylor Swift all day, though. <3

What are you thinking about right now?

If you really want to jump into the MV hype, you could download the trial version... Unless you're like me, and are hesitant to even do that right now. Because if you want to make at least a short game with it, you may as well start at the conceptual level first: making notes, drawing concept art, etc. so you can then make the best use of the time you have available. >.<

Race and Gender in Games

Hahaha! What the hell happened here? ...While I understand and share YM's overall sentiments, I'm here not so much because I'm offended as a minority, but because I'm offended as a developer. Link xD I have many ideas for games, some which have a full "non-white" character cast, some which have a mixed character cast, and some which have a full white character cast. And if I ever release anything, I don't want anyone breathing down my neck as to why the later group is all white, like some people do with the Witcher 3; They're white because I want them to be white. That should be the only explanation anyone should ever need.

I don't feel like I need to do this in order to "right any wrongs", or "set any trends", or "balance any scales". And yes, this is language similar to that which has appeared in threads like these. And no, I'm not going to name any names. I don't mean to be "smug" or "unhelpful", I just don't want to single anyone out, or start a quote war with half the forum. "Attack ideas, not people" is the name of the game. Besides, it's also not my intent to "correct" anyone's behavior. I'm just here to have my say. =P

But just for the sake of the argument, look at Craze's post. That's kinda what I'm talking about. He's making a lot of assumptions, but nobody picked up on that. No, you all rather pile up on SnowOwl instead... Now, it would be one thing to discuss why a piece of media does not work for you; how its lack of diversity "takes you out of the experience" or something. More people would be willing to listen to you that way. But going on a "You must be an agent of the status quo!!!" tirade? Not so much.

I think a lot of the defensiveness on our end is that every other time I've seen someone post the ol' White Guilt thing, it's with the added message of "...and that's why nobody should ever do diversity ever."

Funny how perspectives work. Has anyone said or implied that here? Because from where I'm standing, it's usually the other way around. The message goes: "...and that's why everybody should do diversity always". Just a few pages ago people where being fairly judgmental of the Witcher 3 for not having people of color in the game. Apparently it is Ok to tell Polish people what is and is not part of their culture and history and how they are allowed to portray it in media, just because they failed to meet a diversity quota...

Topics like this send me very mixed signals overall, and this is just one example. "Oh, it's not about "quotas", but how dare you not have characters of X demographic in your game!!?" Well, if it's really not about "quotas" then stuff like this should not matter one way or the other. And unless there's evidence that the developers are doing something in bad faith, people have zero business second-guessing their motives or design choices. Dismissing others artistic freedom just because they failed to cater to your sensibilities, goes beyond just having a discussion or being able to consume media with an analytic mind, and steps into busybody territory.

Being part of a minority group myself, all I would like to see is more variety. That's it. Just because it is a thing that exists and it would be nice to have more of it... But that's not to say there's anything wrong with the lack of it. I grew up with media that was not very diverse and this didn't bring any harm to me. It didn't "erase" my identity, it didn't make me feel "disempowered", it didn't rob me of my "humanity", it didn't take my "voice" away, or anything of the sort. And I fail to see how thinking like this would benefit me at all.

So, to anyone listening out there: Do what you want to do. Do what it works for you. Stay true to your vision. Don't let anyone sway your way. No one should have to characterize you or what you write as "uncritical", "abhorrent", "hurtful", "garbage" etc. All.Options.Are.Valid.
