Castle Oblivion: Remake Review

A remake of CO and talk of more Glacia chapters in the same thread, and in the same year at that? I don't think I can handle all the excitement.

I haven't played much of the demo, but just to back luiishu up, this isn't exactly his game, but a remake of an existing one done by (crap, can't recall), but keep in mind Vincent was young when he ventured into the castle (perhaps not the most loyal or brave) and I'd venture to guess many in his shoes and at that age would have abandoned a friend if they felt just as scared. I don't know how Vincent's character will pan out with the rest of the game, but it was a choice that haunted him for much of his life in the original game, to the point he felt he had to try and make amends.

The fact that the hero is a bit flawed, haunted, not quite the loyal friend you'd expect, weak, perhaps a bit of a coward -- all this makes him a bit more personable in my opinion, and a nice change of pace to the hero who would jump through fire to save even the most random of NPC's.

Ladies and gentlemen, we've reached the Top Floor!

Good news. Azen's dream in glorified mapping will be quite an interesting experience. I can almost imagine the true hell it will look like.

Please tell us you're planning on remaking CO2 as well. Then we'll have the entire trilogy as it was intended.

Still Going (Strong?) !

Well, what I've played, I've enjoyed it all, the visuals, the story, and gameplay, so I'd say it's been successful so far.

Still Going (Strong?) !

I've been playing the demo so far, up through the strange woods and about to hit the mountain pass. As much as I still enjoy the original, this is shaping up to be a very decent remake.

I just kind of wished Celes set some of those soldiers back at the castle in their place, especially the ones who kept doubting her skills. Or at the very least had Sando and Lifa say something when they started mouthing off about Celes in their presence.

Chronicles of Tsufanubra

I wish Enterbrain would consider hiring Corfaisus for designing sample maps. Heck, I wish RPG Maker Web would allow people to create map packs to sell in their store; I'm sure it'd be a big seller for a lot of people looking for base maps for ideas or who otherwise struggle and would have to hire a mapper.

And in case it sounds as if I'm off topic, I'm referring to how fantastic these maps look for your game.

First Seed Material / REFMAP gone; resource recovery operation go!

It should probably be revised but not sure in what way or who would have the rights to do so. After all, asking people to go to the website for the resources themselves, when the website is dead, would be pointless.

author=Ephiam
...and it still features that one dungeon no one can pronounce the name of (Venaitura)!

I've always thought of it as either "Ven-uh-turrah" or "Ven-ay-turrah". But I wouldn't be surprised if it was something completely different, like: "Veh-nigh-uh-too-ray".

Wild Wings: First Flight

Possible, I also tend to go slow in an rpg to get the most out of it. I like to look behind every possible path.

I mean, Lunar Wish is alleged to be 12 hours, and that game took me nearly 28 hours to actually complete. But considering that the average RM game is usually something around the 5 to 10 hour mark, having ones that take extra long is usually a nice treat.

Dragon Fantasy: Venaitura II

Obvious necropost, but seeing as how you've been active again lately, felt I wanted to comment on an old post here.

Obviously, while a DF-V 2 would have been fun, I agree with your decision to cancel it. Having played all 3 games again recently, I felt like DF-V finished it up nicely, with the destruction of the tower.

But I re-read your ancient post recently about how you thought that DF-V should have been in between 1 and 2, and I'm kind of inclined to disagree. I always felt a foreboding with that tower, and while a main god boss controlling things behind the scenes is too popular in traditional rpg's, you don't usually have the primary evil be an object itself (like a living tower). Having to fight the tower in the last installment felt like an epic conclusion to the series.

If you ever do a remake of that game, I can't help but imagine what sorts of evils the tower will launch at us.

Still Going (Strong?) !

While I prefer the name Tsufana from the Heroes game more than Tsufanubra, I really like the look of that title screen, and the screenshots are pretty epic.

Will this be fairly faithful towards the plot of the original trilogy, or has that been pretty much scrapped in favor of an entirely different plot? Obviously not talking about dialogue, since you plan to make this more story-driven, but more or less referencing Veryl as the main bad guy in the first game, with hints of Venaitura and Celes and the primary villains behind the scenes.
