Inspiration and Work Ethic

I for one don't really much like starting new maps (especially exterior ones) because I find getting the layout
done pretty tedious. Once that's done however, I have loads of fun detailing the maps and adding lighting effects and all that jazz. So yeah, some bits are boring, but it's worth doing them to get to the fun stuff.

Event Problem

Even taking that problem variable out of the equation hasn't helped. Still won't advance past level 2. It just seems to ignore the instructions after a certain point in the event for no reason at all.

EDIT: I suppose I could put the events and everything into a blank project if anyone'd be willing to have a look and see what a mess I've made of it.

EDIT 2: I found the problem: I screwed up the conditional branching. What a newb.

Event Problem

Hmm, I tried that and I could even advance from 1 to 2, although maybe that's because of a conflict in another parallel process. Surely it doesn't matter how the barrier is assigned though, it shouldn't make a difference, it'd still be working off the same integers. They just wouldn't be held in a variable.

Event Problem

Right so I'm still working on my accessory leveling system (not too far from finished now) but I've run into a slight problem.

The event below increments an accessory's level by 1 when it's experience meets or passes the desired experience 'barrier' integer (specified in variable 0043). Another parallel process event checks what the accessory's level is and assigns event 0043 the appropriate experience 'barrier' for that particular level.

This works going from level 1 to level 2, but for some reason doesn't work going from level 3 to 4 onwards. The barrier doesn't reset and I can't figure out why.

Variables
0034: Holds the level for a particular accessory (in this case the 'fire' one)
0025: Holds the experience for the currently equipped accessory.
0043: Holds the amount of EXP required to advance a level.

Sorry if that's a pretty rubbish explanation, trying to get my head around the thing often proves difficult.

RM2K3's 'Guage' battle system

I've got no problem with it. Although if you've only got 1 or 2 people in your party it looks kinda empty.

The Master RPG Maker Helpful Things Topic

If anyone wants to create their own landscape panoramas I highly recommend Terragen: http://www.planetside.co.uk/content/view/16/28/

Photorealistic (well, almost) results and it's free for non-commercial use. Max resolution's limited to 1280x960 for the free version - more than enough for RPG Maker.

Got a new computer and cannot use rm2k3!

If it's anything like windows 7 which I'm using you need to make sure you're running the program as an administrator by right clicking the rm2k3 Exe and selecting that option.

Summer Screenshot Spectacular!

archerrin: Looks very nice, only thing I would suggest apart form what others have said is to maybe alter the location markers in the bottom left. I think that text would look a lot better if it was centred on the green background rather than rising above it slightly.

Skie Fortress: Nothing to add. Looks amazing.

Getting rpg maker games on psp.

Actually there is. There's a spanish group developing an open source clone of Rm2k with full support for existing rm2k games (from what I understand). Because it's open source I'm pretty sure it can be ported to whatever you like, there's a demo out for the psp which seems to work pretty well with the example game that comes with it. It doesn't work for existing games made in the official software yet though, but it's definitely one to watch.

Here's the (very sparse) Sourceforge page: http://easyrpg.sourceforge.net/
And the official site: http://easyrpg.rpgmaker.es/blog/

Your favorite type of thing to raid in RPGs

Ditto about the sewers, can't stand them, not a fan of mines or caves either (unless they're either underwater or in space - then they're great).
