EPLIPSWICH'S PROFILE

Just one of those who enjoys playing indie RPGs and looks out for really good-quality ones.

I'm also an unofficial game translator and have finished English translations of two top-quality Japanese RPG Maker RPGs: Seraphic Blue and Nocturne: Rebirth. Both games and their game pages can be accessed on the right of this profile.

Finally, I'm currently working on translating a visual novel called Aiyoku no Eustia :) I'm also eyeing on three future Japanese RPG Maker RPGs that I may plan to translate in order of priority once they're out and I've played them. The official and blog sites are as follows:

Black Winter Review

Oops, exposed.

EDIT: Yeah, stiven202, but you said some beta testers. Exactly how many beta testers do you have altogether? 11% is only acceptable if that's coming from an average play time by all the beta testers. That evidence you showed is but, what, 1 person?

I won't go down into the exact math, but you got to have at least some sense of mean and average.

Either way, now the big issue isn't about this review being bad and all, but about the fake account. If that was truly a duplicate account of yours (and I'm just saying if), then prepare to face the consequences. Duplicate accounts are not allowed on this site. Don't think none of the administrators can't check on that.

Black Winter Review

5 hours it took me.

Some beta testers and others who have finished my game, they sent me screenshots that shows 6 hours, even more.

360 minutes = 6 hours

the rule of three (math):

360 minutes -> 100% of the game
40 minutes -> % ?

(40 * 100) / 360 = 11.11% of the game

He doesn't play anything, practically.

And now you suddenly changed it to 6 hours? Who are you trying to kid? You clearly said 4-5 hours!! Why did you suddenly even take beta testers into account? Stop trying to find excuses.

If you take beta testers into account, then I might as well say I'll take 10 hours to complete the game.

And I said he most likely played more than 40 minutes, not 40 minutes exactly. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

EDIT: And like Red_Nova said, you're only wasting your time arguing here when you could have used this time to improve your game!

Black Winter Review

@stiven202: Actually, where did you get the idea that he played only 10% or less? I read the review again, and this is what he said:

Once I got into the game proper (40 minutes of that terrible writing later) and explored the castle it took no time at all before another contradiction arose.

So he actually played roughly about 1 hour of the game (because after that 40 minutes, I could see he did play a bit more). And you said the game lasts 4-5 hours, right? So that's actually 20-25% of the game played, not 10% or less!

Maybe you should actually calm down and take your time to reread the review thoroughly instead of just glancing through it and looking at the final review score. Because at least the reviewer has positive points about your game (like graphics, music etc.). And you didn't even comment on those positive points that the reviewer at least mentioned (he could have chosen not to mention anything positive, but at least he did.).

Black Winter Review

Sorry stiven202, but if this wasn't a review, it wouldn't have been accepted in the first place (remember that reviews go through checking before they are allowed to be published here).

Though it's true that the reviewer probably shouldn't give the review an official rating (maybe just mention the rating in the review).

And you can't compare RMN to IGN, Kotaku etc. Because those websites are mostly for commercial games which not everyone can just pick up (that's why those websites usually have to do 100% game reviews so that people will see whether it's worth spending money to buy the games), whereas RMN is mostly for free games which anyone can just pick up.

Either way, since you have someone not liking the initial part of the game, then you got to at least find out why that someone doesn't like the initial part instead of simply dismissing it. Everything counts.

Nocturne: Rebirth (English) Review

Yay, another review :p You finally got to it. Great review and read.

So, here's some comments:

- Yeah, to be honest, while I know the dialogues of the three vampires are more in depth than the rest of the characters, I didn't actually take into account their nobility when translating this game. So yeah, I could definitely look into that if I ever go back to looking at the dialogues and also keep that in mind for future translations.

- Eh, I thought Shylphiel is the original Japanese name? (I remember in the original Japanese version's main menu when she is in the party, her full name is Shylphiel Wing). I don't recall her name being Sylphiel.

- Well, about Khaos... You see, of the three vampires, Khaos' original Japanese name Chaos is the odd one out. It isn't a matter of pronunciation, but more a matter of uniqueness. I mean, the names "Reviel" and "Ristill" are no doubt unique. Well, not that changing it to Khaos makes much of a difference. But if anything, it still makes his name a tad more unique, I guess?

- And yep, I think the speech bubbles... I guess I didn't take into account the extra spaces in the speech bubbles that make them so big as a result. I'll definitely keep that in mind for the Hat World translation (even the creator of Hat World mentioned that she finds extra spaces ugly, so I'll have to respect that ~ ~). And a bit side-track here, but I thought of changing the name "Hat World" to something slightly more unique. Like "Hatalonia", which I like (that name just clicked in my mind :p)

Well, either way, thanks for the review! :D

Nocturne: Rebirth (English) Review

Thanks for your reviews for this game and Seraphic Blue! By the way, would be cool if you can add pictures in your review here just like you did in your website (it's not hard to actually) :)

Seraphic Blue (English) Review

Thank you for the review, Kel!

That intro is the first thing eplipswich had me look over, and I was both not very experienced and trying to be minimally invasive with my edits at the time. It's been a while since then--and I have a somewhat better understanding of the lunacy that is SB's plot--so I could definitely look over it again at some point. I'm doing NaNoWriMo this month, but my schedule opens back up in December.

Yeah, I could use your help probably for the future release of Seraphic Blue Altered (the one with advanced gameplay) :)

Seraphic Blue (English) Review

Thanks for the awesome review! Hmm, I thought the intro was as good as it is. Oh well, I will look through it again though. In fact, I think the intro was one of the hardest to translate since I literally didn't quite understand what it was talking about in the beginning. Thanks again!

Oh, and I think you mean the female main protagonist is Vene? Minerva is the green-haired girl :)

Homework Salesman Review

Should it really take one sixth of my energy to cook a meal?

Well, try cooking meals 6 times per day in real life and tell me if it's tiring or not :p Chefs may not find it tiring, but those new to cooking most likely will. And I understand that it feels slow-paced, but that's supposed to be the nature of this game. It's meant to reflect something close to casual real life. Just saying.

In any case, by making use of a certain something, you can actually cook/forge/sew etc. close to 12 times per day.

Pom Gets Wi-Fi Review

From what I know of Sated, he's not someone to get salty over something trivial like Pom winning lots of Misaos. Sure, this review may have been stemmed from that, but if anyone has read the review, it highlights much more things that simply that. All his reviews I've read do make sense in many ways. Everyone should read his reviews thoroughly first before actually blurting out things.
