WHICH TEAM IS YOUR TEAM?

author=GreatRedSpirit

I've always had a soft spot for Shu. Damn little underdogs. Stupid Liu Shan.

GREEN.

Side note, usernames at RMN should be actually invisible forever. I'm serious.

What are your opinions on the recent Yooka-Laylee controversy?

This is a smart move by the developer. You can't be associated with that kind of baggage. I don't really think they had much choice in the matter. People will give them shit for it, but they'll get over it.

Also, JonTron is not ruined, he still has a massive following and always will. Sorry, that's just reality.

Neither the developer nor Jontron are ruined. Apologies to those who, for some reason, feel the burning need to see others suffer because of these things. If the game sucks, the game will fail. If the game is awesome, this will not hurt sales. Jontron has produced quality youtube content in the past and probably will in the future.

My concern, like others have mentioned, is this is just yet another notch in the lose column for the culture at large. Yes, there is a war going on. We have gone so far beyond the point of true tolerance and open-mindedness that it's getting to be scary. Both sides have become awash in a staggering level of hubris. Both sides have come to conclusions that have allowed the culture to completely shit all over each other just because of dissenting opinions.

People are coming up with Casus Belli that didn't get used before. Punching a Nazi is fine, but ... basically anyone can be a deemed Nazi these days. True hate speech is nothing but toxic, but anything can be deemed hate speech. The lines have been blurred. It's just... not acceptable to think certain things and say certain things. Before, it was simply not agreeable or not preferable. Now, it has become literally unacceptable and intolerable. There is no tolerance. None. Why so many of you want to destroy peoples' livelihoods for having opinions is the scary part. I have never, ever had such vengeful and hateful feelings. Yes, I already know the rationalization. As explained before Casus Belli. "Well he's a bigot!" Yeah, lots of people are shitty. But going full Stalin-style Communist Party is not the answer.

I mean, do you want me to fail at everything I do if you disagree with me? I can say for certain that I do not want others to fail in their creative pursuits because of a dissenting opinion. That would be... just exceedingly cruel.

This has always been a thing, but it's rapidly getting way worse and everyone notices. There's no compromise, it's all brute force now, banning, silencing, censoring, and intimidating. Don't discuss, just punch people, or prevent them from being able to speak. This is concerning because when the words stop, the fists, and bullets start. No matter how much of a tough guy you are, you do not want fists and bullets to fly.

Whenever things come up offline, I am making a tremendous effort to listen more and talk less. Ask why, ask about the feelings behind the opinion. Avoid dismissing or discrediting. Now, some of the things I hear are genuinely disturbing, but at least it seems that the other party has lost a little tiny bit of their trigger-happy hostility after such an exchange. I invite others to chip away at this nectar-thick hostility if not already.

RMN must be doing something right, because I am inundated with requests from advertising companies...

Harmonic would know for sure, his game is on there, but that stuff's probably private. Also I'm guessing only the commercial items on the RM weekly bundle receive a cut of the profits (ie not the developers of the games in the free game bundles) although I could be wrong?

We did not expect the bundle to make this much money. However, we need to figure out how much went to where, and deal with the large amount of entities who are entitled to a chunk of the pie other than us poor little devs.

This also happens to be an opportunity for Degica to show its good faith. We shall see.

Looking for a Musician, Composer, Script Writer, Script Implementer, Systems Integrator, Mapper, Writer, Storyboarder, Director, PR Specialist, Manager, Web Designer, Sound Mixer, Concept Artist and Sprite Artist!

I'll be your musician, but not your composer. Err your composer but not your musician.

Sexy advise to all. DO NOT create a sandbox. instead, create an illusion that keeps the player in your grasp. If the player is free to do W/E, they will probably run into a quality problem. Bridge free roam with FF13. Making a RM Skyrim is idiotic, IMO.

You're not going to hurt my feelings by tearing down Skyrim, but I don't buy the case you're making. Sounds a bit too influenced by the negative experience from Oblivion's main quest which, I agree, is rather monotonous. However, Skyrim's main quest is magnitudes better than Oblivion's. Fighting dragons is the only annoyance, and with a few mods that problem is solved. Most experienced players delay the main quest so they can dink around for a good 100 hours before the first dragon appears.

Bethesda games are what you make of them. If you are an ODC min-maxer, then yes you will find yourself searching for the most efficient way to level up and acquire things, and often times that involves tedium - tedium that you forced upon yourself since the game does not require grinding. (No one relies on woodcutting for regular income.) So I'd wager sandbox games are just not your bag.

Consider also that Bethesda had to carefully limit how much impact players and the main quest have on the world. If you wipe out a town, suddenly several quest chains will be broken. They had to create a huge, ungodly amount of content that all works together and doesn't break each other, and that's difficult.

Sexy advise to all. DO NOT create a sandbox. instead, create an illusion that keeps the player in your grasp. If the player is free to do W/E, they will probably run into a quality problem. Bridge free roam with FF13. Making a RM Skyrim is idiotic, IMO.

Skyrim is just way too huge, and would've been better with more direction. I find that people who make RPG Maker gamz tend to stop giving their players direction and purpose, which ends up discouraging players from doing anything. I find myself in a situation all too often where there is FAR TOO MUCH to do. It starts to get confusing and spoils the whole experience.

Sorry to say here, but you're in the minority. Bethesda fans like more, not less. They like lore, things to do, places to go. Compared to other sandbox games, Skyrim goes out of its way to direct the player through the main quest.

But yes, one should never attempt total sandbox with RPGMaker.
