2007 Misaos

Rightly so. Balance, old-school, and customization was what your game was all about. LoD2's customization would rock you though!

R3P won nothing! It's like my favorite someone else's RM game.

Release Something! Day II: The Sequel [March 20th]

I'll do my best to get a LoD2 Demo out.

2007 Misaos

Everyone has good points. I'm split on it because:

1) 2006's misaos were so small. Only like 30-40 votes per category... this time around is was a lot more votes, which is a good thing, REGARDLESS of which community they belong too.

2) However, I strongly believed both Rise of the Third Power and Hero's Realm would sweep this year's misaos. They have far superior design than any XP games I've tried. Although admittedly, I've only dabbled in most of them... but really that's because only R3P and HR caught my attention enough to actually keep playing. R3P got shunned for the most part. And we all know why, no need to beat that dead horse.

Thanks!

Karsuman actually mentioned the pillow shading in his own words. TBH all I did was use 3 different shades of a certain color then smudge it. Shrug can't expect much more from a mid-grade artist :)

A lot of the credit goes to Karsu anyway since before he offered constructive advice regarding anatomy, it didn't look nearly as good. Although I still opted for extremely ample hips/breasts because that's just my style. ;D

Let's have a serious discussion about homebrew RPGMaker games.

Read the whole thing.

Legacies of Dondoran is a great example of a game that was uniquely LONG and COMPLETE at the same time, but as mentioned by the OP, sacrificed a few elements (the beginning paled in comparison to the middle and end) for the sake of being long and complete.

That's why with LoD2 I'm making a point not to inject any "filler" gameplay. It'll be a shorter game for sure.

I really do think playing of games should increase as well. Of course, I feel hypocritical saying that since I, just like Badluck, simply don't play others' games very much. I'm usually preoccupied with something else, so it's hard to find the time! But I'm a self supporting adult, if I was still in college, it'd be way way easier. I really do think it would be easier for me to stomach RPGmaker games if they didn't have super long intros, slow walk speed, totally boring battle and progression systems, glaring cliches, etc. I enjoyed Hero's Realm... while I like character creation and progression to be even deeper than that, I actually played it and liked it. The DW3 style system was great.

But yeah there just has to be that "it" factor. My IRL buddy played LoD throughout, and after he was no longer able to accumulate skill points from leveling up (level 50 up) he said he lost interest in it!

LoD2 won't upgrade to VX. There's already a few hours of gameplay and 100% of the database and systems done in 2k3. Although VX's capability makes me a jealous panda, but I'll probably just make another one in VX down the road.

And yeah the pillow shading is a result of using the "smudge" tool in paint shop pro. For certain things, like the underside of the butt cape, the pillow shading style works. TBH I probably could have spent a lot more time on it, but since I'm not using it for anything, and I haven't taken an art class in my life, I figured meh, this is fine.

Thanks re the in-game battle graphic. The other characters bounce/move in their idle stance but this character's personality lends to being subtle, reserved, quietly majestic, so she merely stands in the ubiquitous wind while her hair and butt-cape flow.

I don't do a ton of major pixel art besides small rm2k3 functional graphics, but here's a supersprite of one of the major LoD2 characters I did just for fun:

And this is her in-game battle graphic:

Will post more later.

~Compositions~

I'm impressed. Well done.

As for people wanting to use that stuff: It should go without saying that almost all original music, composed by indie game makers, is exclusive to the game it was written for. Usually there's an exchange or agreement of some sort between the composer and game maker that doesn't allow for 3rd parties to get a piece of the pie. I'd never share my own thematic material specific to my game.

Peach has 1.3 billion dollars?

I wonder if she's still single.

Dude, leaving your fiance for Princess Peach is so sleazy.

"Sleazy" is not the word I'd use, personally.

Anyone else could say what I said and have it be taken as a joke.

But when I say it, it's an admission that I want to marry Princess Peach. Get real... ::)

Balance

In LoD2, you progress in levels as usual, with XP, which flows at a steady pace from winning battles. Levels increase your HP, STR, and INT slightly.

-AGI is gear/skill dependent
-DEF is totally armor-based

SKILL POINTS are the bulk of the progression of the character, which are calculated by character level versus the enemy party level. Overpowering the enemy yields fewer skill points, and killing a much superior enemy gives more. Quests gives SP, shutting off monster nodes gives SP, and bosses give a lot more SP.

So you CAN grind, but it doesn't help all that much. Mostly helps to explore and find lewts.
