Ocean, I've said it before and I'll say it again. Finish that game! The FF1 Nes-style battle thing is so wonderfully nostalgic.
That alone gets my hyped up for it.

How important is original 'unique' music in an indie game?
Extremely important.
Of course, the availability of original music is a non-issue for me. ^_^
Nothing, other than smell, is more memory-associated than sound. And music touches everybody. An extreme case of non-unique soundtracks would be the Imperial March theme from star wars for your game's main villain. Totally ridiculous!

Lusty:
To start, i hate overlays.
But that overlay is pretty good. Just doesnt work for in a city IMO. Could be something left out, like the entire city is covered in a giant tropical canopy, which is a neat concept I guess.
Use that overlay in a forest or something.

Civilization 4 + Warlords
I am 10000000000000000% in favor of a giant Civ4 game. If we put some really, really minor stipulations on it, like "the point of the game is not to wipe the other human players out in 5 minutes, thus ruining any chance that the game will actually develop" then it'll be a total blast. Could last a long time too.
Smash Brothers
I used to play like crazy.
Favorite Character to play as: Roy. I'm a HUGE fire emblem fanboy. The fact that it wasn't released until FE6 in America is crappy. Roy happens to be the main hero of Fire Emblem 6. Yes yes, he's clearly inferior to Marth in terms of raw fighting ability, but I never played FE 1 or 3, which were the games Marth headed up.
Top Tier fighters: Marth. IMO one of the most incredibly overpowered characters in the game, if not the most. His speed, accuracy and execution of attacks is unparalleled. Can juggle people on the ground and in the air without interruption. I don't share Erave's less than refined "jap-fag" hatred of Marth, though. He's Fire Emblem and Fire Emblem is god.
Captain Falcon. Man does that mofo have powerful specials. The sliding kicks are amazing, and the Falcon Punch is one very overlooked and deadly skill in the right hands. Toned down from his broken invincibility of N64 SSB, but still quite good.
Princess Peach. Yeah, you heard me. Her moves are instant, and ULTRA strong and hard-hitting. She's slow as molasses, but makes up for it in having among the highest damage-dealing in the game. Almost impossible to KO to the sides. Her butt-using moves are entertaining, but I avoid them because of their long recovery time. Peach is packin too much junk in that trunk I suppose.
Falco. Another overpowered sonuva bitch. Incredibly fast and powerful at the same time. Just about as cheaply overpowered as Fox/Falcon was in SSB for N64.
Scrubs: Mario, Young link, Bowser, Ganondorf, Ice Climbers.
Midcarders: everyone else. Jiggly Puff is almost a top tier, but not quite. Zelda(Shiek) is very similar to Marth in terms of cheapness/speed, but is quite weak in comparison. Everyone loves Samus. Super powerful moves, but so achingly slow I can't stand playing her.

Generica - [RMVX..?]
Oh, well I'd be glad to follow it along in its development and toss around ideas. With LoD2, and writing music for 1 possibly 2 people, free time and free creative energy is at a premium.

Wells Fargo keeps trying to get me to get a consolidation loan, but it never goes through (bad credit, I suppose). Put in a good word for me.
Also, I feel so old...
Wells Fargo Bank or Financial? Bank is our prime lender. Normally they refer failed attempts at credit to WF Financial, because we're the subprime lender.
That said, we have the most conservative underwriting by a long shot between the major sub-prime lenders. So yeah, even WFF can't help some people. I've made nice commissions on mortgages and consolidation home equity loans for people with 450(!!!) credit scores (lowest you can have) but have other factors, such as income, non-real estate equity, and recent payment history that allows their requests for credit get through underwriting.
Try WF Financial. If we can't do it, DiTech.com can. But they are a doomed enterprise. Don't be suprised if some of those exotic loans they offer get bought out by Wells Fargo anyway. Lol.
And you are...? (THE INTRODUCTION THREAD)
Phil, 25 year old living in Des Moines, Iowa. Been engaged to my awesome fiancee, Crystal for a year or so. Marriage is in about 2 years.
I'm up in the air career wise. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in music education, taught band for a year, and didn't exactly fall in love with it. Right now I'm a mortgage loan officer at Wells Fargo Financial, whose corporate HQ is here in Des Moines.
I'd been dedicated to music since a very young age. My parents put me in piano lessons starting at age 6, violin in 3rd grade, trumpet in 5th grade, and I picked up the guitar in high school. Went to college on a full ride music scholarship, so logically I figured I'd get a music degree!
RPGmaker started out as a mere platform for the music I love to compose. Composing music has always been one of the most cathartic and satisfying activities I can possibly do. I was also a huge gamer nerd, so I tried making a game. It wasn't for a few years after that experimentation that I really decided to go with it, and thus, LoD was finished as sort of a revised experiment. LoD2 is starting out quite differently, with my acquired knowledge and deliberate intent to make a game, not a mere music platform.

Favorite Gameplay Element

I'd have to say I really liked the fighting system in Xenogears because you could make it so that your attacks didn't always look the same and you could unleash these crazy kick ass combos like in a fighting game.
I loved a lot about Xenogears, but it all would have been perfect if disc 2 wasn't so damn rushed :(. The beginnings of the game had the marks of greatness, however...
Anyways, I'm not sure what specific gameplay element is my FAVORITE.. but certainly one of my favorites is training my characters up with new abilities. I like playing RPGs where I actually want to spend time grinding monsters to gain EXP, JP, etc., in order to gain fun new powers that kick even more ass. There are plenty of examples... my favorite would probably be the original FFT. I really enjoyed just fighting random battles, plus the story itself was awfully good. Although, in my opinion, they kind of nerf the difficult combat when Cid joins, but if you still want a real challenge you can just not use the guy. FF9 was also fun to do the same thing, using equipment to temporarily gain skills and then fighting lots of battles to permanently gain them.
Increasing, gaining loot, shinies, rewards, is what RPG addictiveness is all about.
Loot is another cog. Yes it's a gameplay cog. Carefully balance loot with money acquisition to create a desire for the loot. Also, make the really special cool loot feel special upon acquisition by making it somewhat difficult to find.
