Speaking from my artist's perspective... it is possible to have some of those expectations.

Actually, if you look closely at our world map, you'll see that Melmond is already rotting. ;)

Nice. This really helps give your game a distinct look. Why did u make the decision for the slight aesthetic changes?

I'd say the primary factor was tileset limitations in the long run. Having a little hand drawn aspect in most of the maps helps keep them fresh and unique; extremely important in a game with a large number/diverse array of locations.

Art and You

I'm an artist and I fully support this new rule.

As Deckiller stated, the life of an artist is not easy. I'm slightly appalled by some of the things being said in this topic. Creating art is often a very fun and rewarding process, but it is also time consuming and arduous work. Seriously, (excuse my language) the least a person can do if they make use of any of my work (with my permission of course) is to post my fucking name under it.

Yes. We're here contributing to the development of games... but we're also simultaneously accruing experience, spreading our name and building our portfolios for the future. Its not just about an artist's ego, its about our own self sufficiency.

When did game making turn into the fucking Human Instrumentality Project?

Haha, it looks like a cave entrance to me as well. ;)

Oh well... cave entrance... dark source... its all good. Either way, it simulates descending into the abyss. *scary face*

This is sooo awesome! I see the cliff is custom-made; might look a bit clashy with FFIV:TCC tiles.

Its deliberate. It was easier for me to just draw normally than to try and adhere to a style thats a bit more limiting. There are so many locations in the game that... I decided to go with the method that works best for me. If you've ever played SaGa Frontier 2, you'll get a rough idea of what we'll be doing with the some of the later locations.

The locations and maps in the game are going to be a lot less... symmetrical from now on. ;)

Also, that cave entrance is weirdly done; doesn't really give that 'cave entrance' feels.

Really?

Favorite NES Games

Favorite NES Games (plural) eh?

-Final Fantasy 1 (no brainer)
-Destiny of an Emperor (great music)
-Dragon Warrior 2
-Super Mario Bros 3 (2 was alright. I loved playing as Princess Peach)
-Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link (I must be in the minority here... along with Kentona)
-8 Eyes (I used to think this was so freaking hard)
-Golgo 13: Top Secret Episode (also a no brainer)
-Bugs Bunny Birthday Blowout (this was pretty damn fun)
-Monster Party (also pretty damn fun)

DOTA 2

I play it. I play it a lot, hah.

Windranger is my main, with Crystal Maiden as my sub.

Gaia_Locations_Revised2.png

Updated map

-Fixed a typo with Ship Graveyard
-Moved Mosphoran Highwaste to its correct location
-Inserted a location that was mistakenly left out (Vallis Media)
-Consolidated Sanubia Sandway North and South into one location to compensate for Vallis Media (for space/numbering purposes only)
-Renamed Silent Spring to Sulyya Springs
-Replaced the erroneous Mosphoran Highwaste location with the Aisenfield

Goodbye, World Map!

I'm curious - what were the technical limitations that caused you to shy away from the fully navigable world map?

I'm going to be intentionally vague.

It was a myriad of issues here and there concerning the visual limitations of the world map tileset, the presence of lag, parallaxing concerns and the inability to adequately fit everything we wanted to in one 500x500 tile map. We spent a little time discussing possible concessions and solutions concerning the above.

In the end, we came up with an idea that seemed fair and we ran with it.

And you have quite a few locations from the Ivalice Alliance, subseries which I haven't really played

Now's your chance to play them! Get going!! ;)
