What are you thinking about right now?

author=Corfaisus
I had a dream that, for one reason or another, I got a sex change to become a beautiful, light-skinned black woman. My parents were disappointed in me and questioned me about my life (I reassured them that this is what I wanted and that I'm still the same person they loved before) on the car ride back to the house. The strangest thing was that I looked at myself in the rear-view mirror and saw the man I was before, like my "true" self shone through.

Sure, other things happened that I've since forgotten, but such is the nature of dreams.

... But what does it mean? It can't be that I'm transgendered or in any way conflicted with myself as I know that's never been the case. Was it meant as an attempt to glance sympathetically into another life? Even for a dream, it was surreal.

Anywhooo, got work today, so I've probably got more important things to worry about.

Considering that the understanding of dreams figure heavily in the development of magickal ability, that I practice sorcery will be quite helpful to you. First, the car is you. (In any dream in which you are in a car, the car is a representation of you. For example, if you dream you're driving car in which the steering wheel doesn't work, this could mean you feel that you're not in control of your life. If your headlights don't work, it may be that you are pursuing a goal without carefully considering the consequences...get it?). Mirrors always reflect you, so anytime you see a mirror in a dream, whatever you see in it is a reflection of you. Usually, it's not so literal, but it's appropriate for this particular dream. Sex change: uncomfortable in one's own skin, possibly, or you're uncertain about your future--who will ultimately become (taking the context of your dream into account, I think this second one is the likely one).

That your parents are driving the car suggests that they continue to be the dominant influence on your life. Whether you're emancipated and living alone, supporting yourself, or not, you still feel that you are beholden to them. I have a monstrously overbearing father, so I understand this quite well. You feel that are influencing the most important decisions in your life. It's frustrating. You want them to accept the decisions you make on your own, to accept that you're your own person, not who they demand you be. Most importantly, before you accomplish this, you have to accept who you are, be comfortable with the man in the mirror.

Malaysia Airlines Boeing crash in Ukraine

Putin is ex-KGB. These people tend to long for the days of the Berlin wall, when a person having an intellectual conversation over dinner about a social system other than communism could end up spending the rest of his life in prison.

Here is something that is important to this discussion: Ukraine is an ally of the United States. With all of the civil unrest in former Soviet states, it's important to note this happens in a country that is allied with the U. S. It won't be the last. If you've been reading about Russia in the media over the last few years, you would notice the following:

1. Putin threatened to launch missile strikes on all U. S. bases located in countries that shared a border with Russia. These bases were built in response to Russia's sudden Cold War regression. The bases were intended to stop nuclear weapons launched from Russia towards the U. S.

2. Putin reversed the joint decision with the U. S. to dismantle our mutual nuclear arsenals. The Nunn-Luger Threat Reduction Program, which lasted for 20 years, and was highly successful, saw the dismantling of the Soviet nuclear arsenal, as well as the U. S. dismantling its own nuclear arsenal. Russia has since resumed nuclear buildup.

3. Putin signed a bill outlawing U. S. adoptions of Russian children in response to the incident in which a child was sent back to Russia alone on an airplane.

4. Russia and China blocked the U. N. International Court from investigating war crimes in Syria.

By the way, in case you haven't read, the Huffington Post is reporting that the Pro-Russian rebel leader is affirming that Pro-Russian Separatists shot down the plane, claiming the pilot was to blame for flying over Ukraine.

Getting back to what I was saying, the U. S. balked on each of Russia's pushes. Putin is NOT a man of peace. His actions demonstrate that he senses weakness in U. S. leadership. Obama's constant failure to stand firm against Putin might well be the act of man interested only in peace, but to a warrior like Putin, whose interest is not in peace, but in imperial conquest, our reticence is his opportunity restore the mighty Soviet state. It is my opinion that Putin fancies himself another Stalin and longs for that kind of power and impact on history.

Eh, I keep turtles too...and parakeets, and finches, and dogs and cats. It's my wife's legacy. I always liked having dogs and cats, but then she came along with the birds and turtles. The turtle's name is Oscar. Apparently, before she met me, she would joke that she would meet someone named Mayer and then Oscar's name would be Oscar Mayer. My last name Myers. Pronounced the same.

How do I learn to make portraits from scratch?

I've always drawn by hand, but I've discovered that scanning isn't always so great, so I've tried my hand at literally drawing pictures on GraphicsGale. I've discovered that practice makes perfect, and it happens that...yep, you can draw a face on a paint program just as easily as by hand. Just practice, practice, practice, just like the piano analogy that Red Nova used.

Now, get out of here and practice your scales and arpeggios...erm...I mean, you shading and coloring techniques.

My wife always made fun of me because I have a tendency to cry in emotional scenes in movies (all in good humor).

What Super Hero Movie do you most want to see?

author=Shinan
One thing I've noticed in superhero movies (and every other kind of movie too, but especially superhero movies) is that the all follow pretty much the same formula. Obviously you might say. But I find that the thing I like the most in every superhero movie are the character moments. People struggling with their powers and/or having fun with them. You know that fifteen minutes or so somewhere in the early second act.

The time I always shut down is during the final set piece. I've found a lot of review talking about how superhero movies try to top the last final set piece and how "Oh my god this one was pretty sweet". But even the well-reviewed ones (I heard people saying iron Man 3's final set piece was good) I find incredibly dull.

It's a bit weird how superhero fight scenes are the least interesting thing in superhero stories. Take for example the latest Captain America final showdown. How boring was that, with the guy that just had a jet pack for some reason. The interesting bits were the bits involving the Winter Soldier, but I would have liked that to have been solved in some other way than things exploding everywhere.

To be honest I started thinking more about this because I saw X-Men Days of Future Past and its final set piece was very non-violent. It was essentially a talky standoff and I really liked that.

Now some of this might because of the superhero comics. I tried to read some of that stuff earlier this year and found it similarly tedious. There'd be one or two pages of interesting stuff and then fifteen pages of people beating each other up. I found myself quickly flipping through pages to get to some story but all they seemed to want to do was kick the shit out of each other in increasingly similar ways.

I guess I just approached it the wrong way. Reading superhero comics for story is like watching porn for it.

I confess that comic books have been one of my passions for 25 years. No matter the financial ups or downs in life, I insist on continuing this one hobby.

Shinan, a series that came out in 2013 might interest you: All New X-Men. These books are heavy on story and character development and they balance the fighting well. Enemies aren't always kicking the shit out of each other (although that does happen from time to time...there are a few issues that dedicate themselves to fighting, but the way the stories are written, you feel like there's a reason for it), and at many points, they talk out their issues (though they don't always leave on good terms, and it's obvious that some of them are hoping for a fight, but the last thing the X-Men want is a mutant civil war). The fights that do take place work to be unique, based on circumstance and surrounding instead of the more traditional type of comic book fight. I honestly haven't seen a book this well done since Chris Clairemont worked on the X-Men in the early 90s (he also did some fabulous work on Superman, being the one that gave us the historic "The Death of Superman" and "Reign of the Supermen"). If nothing else, seeing young Iceman hit Thor in the face with a snowball in vol. 1, issue 14 makes giving this book a look totally worth it.

What Super Hero Movie do you most want to see?

author=SnowOwl
Super Hero movies are possibly the single worst type of movie ever. How anyone can like those piles of steaming garbage is beyond me. There is absolutely no thought except "let's pile shittons of money into this, and it will make a great movie" put into any super hero movie I have ever seen. So to answer the question, I would love a super hero movie in which every super hero ever dies and them dying is now final, so that no more super hero movies will ever be made. I might even watch that.
Well, I might agree with this mostly, except that there are exceptions, as with anything.

The Watchmen (This is actually in the vein of what you just claimed you'd watch)
Batman Begins (although, the Batman movies may not necessarily count as superhero movies since the protagonist is a vigilante with no superpowers)
The Dark Knight
Ironman (though the same argument can be stated here as with Batman, the tone is more clearly that of a superhero film)
Superman (1979)
Batman (1989)
The Incredible Hulk (Though this may not count since I'm citing the 1980s series, though the more recent of the films with Edward Norton was very well done)
The Directors Cut of Daredevil

Actually, you know, I can't think of many more offhand. X-Men, the Avengers, Thor, Captain America and the like were all great fun, which is all a movie really has to be, but it would be a stretch to call them good. X-Men disappoints on many, many levels and I have wished before that it would have been a TV show, instead. It's all about showing a spectacle, like you said. The Avengers, at least, keeps true to the source material.

Yep as far as I know Dr. Strange is in the works. I don't know too much about Dr.Strange but I heard it's a really trippy comic so that sounds awesome to me.

Dr. Strange has always been one I've wanted to see as a movie, but this will be a hard role to fill, (though I hear the director thinks he's found the perfect actor).

Okay, I once had an idea for a story in the vein of Ocean's 11 with the main characters as Domino (the X-Force member who's mutant ability is to manipulate probability in her favor), and Black Cat (the Spiderman character who brings bad luck whenever she feels threatened). It was just an idea I once toyed with.

A Deadpool feature is actually in the making, btw. So those of you want to see him and his "comic awareness"/fourth wall breaking ability on the screen, your wish is soon to come true.

As for Wonder Woman, nobody ever gets it right.
Interesting idea that would certainly give it a more diverse feel than most superhero films. Afraid I don't know who Domino is but I remember Black Cat from the old cartoon definitely a cool character.

Glad to hear about the Deadpool movie. I hope it's funny.

I think the first Wonder Woman movie could probably be entirely on Themyscira and then they could have the whole coming to America thing for the 2nd film or the very end of the 1st film. Like how Captain America stayed in his time period for his 1st film.

First, here's Domino (a little cosplay for a thread that definitely calls for it):

Domino of X-Force

Her mutant power makes her extremely lucky and I thought that this fact would make her an excellent protagonist in a movie centered on gambling, plus the fact that she's mercenary, a heist might not be out of the question either. Hell, she knows Deadpool. He can get in on the action.

Your idea for Wonder Woman is the only idea I would ever agree with, but nobody will ever do it. As far as Hollywood is concerned, Wonder Woman belongs in the U. S. and her origin will only ever get 15 minutes of screen time, if that.
