It's official - we're in the 2019 INDIE MEGABOOTH!

Woah, congratulations! It's gotta be a lot of fun to show off to so many people (and hopefully not too tiring!) Good luck!

What are you thinking about right now?

Hah. That thecatamites post seems like a newer, texty version of Space Funeral. The joke is the same, anyway. I like our small community, but I do think it's funny and good to be able to take the piss once in a while ^^

I definitely do have miss parts of being an active forum member, lots of discussions, long posts. Plus there's that weird nostalgia for arguing and debating back and forth and doubling down on every design opinion like someone had offended me personally. That said, I think a lot is because it all happened during my easily-influenced and overly-romanticized teenage years.

I like a lot the larger en masse indie scene has brought to us, but I do miss little niche corners of the internet, and remembering and befriending (or be-rivaling) individual posters on a message board. It reminds me of those old days in an MMO where there'd only be a couple hundred people on a server and you'd make log on and see the same people every day.

I wonder if there's a way to recreate that, in the age of reddit and twitter and just-so-dang-many-people?

Goaling It 2019

These are vague goals, but in 2019, I'd like to:

- start, create, and complete a game that I'm proud of
- participate more in various game communities, this one included
- make more art & illustration

Here we go :D

What are you thinking about right now?

- I want to make game this weekend
- I'm a little glad for technology cuz I got to video chat with my bedridden grandfather this morning
- I want to sit down with a nice drink tonight
- I want to draw some more
- I get to kiss someone cute again soon

Please don't work yourself to shreds ;__;

<3 all of you

Making games? What motivates you?

I make games because it's a creative outlet for communicating things that I can't cover with words. I've tried a ton of mediums - comics, songwriting, writing - and game development was the one that stuck, because I enjoy the day-to-day process the most (even if it's hellish sometimes). The puzzle of making a game both enjoyable and expressive is just really, really satisfying.

I can say that any initial burst of motivation that comes with a new idea is usually not enough to carry me much further than a game jam - it takes a lot of discipline and willingness to grind through the work of making even a small game. I enjoy it, but it is definitely work. I don't have the discipline to power through the grind when it comes to comicking or music practice, but I do for game development (usually).

I make games because it's fun and I'd probably sink into depression if I didn't have a way to experiment and express myself like I can with games.

I don't mind the attention, either. It's really nice knowing someone played your game and had fun, or it meant something to them :)

Please don't work yourself to shreds ;__;

I love ya'll too much, and I know the world doesn't give ya enough time to do and make and try and create all the things you love, but like... give yourself a break every once in a while and get some sleep, too.

I know I overwork myself a lot trying to make games in my spare time and I'm trying to be better about it, myself. It's a hard thing to do... but if you're getting wiped out, please consider slowing down a bit. You got a long life ahead of ya, y'know?

Love <3

It's been 5 years...

I'm glad that you've found a good pace for yourself, Nessy, and I hope you're not burning out too much. 2-4 hours of sleep sounds very scary, honestly. I'm glad you're saving money and you can hire some people to help, but I hope you can get some rest soon.

Cheers on keeping on, though - every project of mine that's taken over a year (just working in my off-time) I've ended up abandoning as the slow momentum is just too difficult. Seeing you with the willpower to keep going is really inspiring, y'know?

Good luck, Nessy! I'll support ya any way I can :D

HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2019

Happy New Year!!

Ours was like two days ago, I'm just lazy.

What are you drinking about right now?

Happy New Years, folks~

I got to kiss someone cute and it made me very happy
