Cartomancery and classes
My 4 picks:
Brute, Cleric, Darkling, Cartomancer
Healing specialties are always hot, Melee/other sustainable forms of dealing damage are great for carrying you through those long dungeon crawls while saving caster MP for bosses, and the Cartomancer is just too different from typical RPG classes to NOT have in your party.
One question I have about the Cartomancer... using Justice as an example if you have two possible effects for Defensedraw, you have a higher chance of blinding yourself ("bad!") drawing a card for defense than you do getting the "bad!" enemy def effect for an offensive draw. This doesn't really make a lot of sense to me :X unless you're not planning on a 50/50 chance of either defensive effect.

- Do a better job of keeping my most beloved hobbies at the top of my priority list (mainly making more progress on my engine/game, generally being a better artist/coder, knocking the dust off my guitars, and shewtin them mad tight gr00pz)
- Find ways to make a better/more stable source of income out of freelance work if I'm going to keep doing it instead of a "regular" job, start my own business? Who knows, the sky's the limit or some shit :x
- Maintain a closer relationship with my mom, almost lost her in 09 and while we have a lot of bad history I'm not at all ready for my parents to start dying yet (typing this from her place right now, first visit in over a year so I'm off to a... start :D)
- Take the dog out running more often, he's already fit but it's his favorite thing in the world and not the worst thing I can do for myself either
- Sleep more/better (open to suggestions on this one)

Would Real Life Music Be Distracting
What are you jammin' too?
there are a lot of awesome chiptunes out there but the Castlevania: Belmont's Revenge (GB) soundtrack is just... holy eff.
Would Real Life Music Be Distracting
IMO, no. Unless a game has a solid soundtrack I haven't heard a thousand times before, then I've usually got it turned off with Winamp going anyway. "Real Life" music can be an excellent compliment to a game :D
\/ \/ \/ I think what we can take from these two replies is "make it turn-offable to be safe" XD

How to get RPG Maker 2003 do things other than RPGs.
Rockin post Wolf! Throwing in my similar 2 cents:
post=117044Great point, on another note though it's funny that Crystalis has more fluid real time combat than any ABS 2k3 game I've personally tried :P
And you have to realize there's a limit to how good an ABS you can really make in RPG Maker 2003, sure there's ABSs on the NES that use only 8 sprites a scanline (compared to 50 total in RPGMaker2003)
I mean, if you're so interested in taking programming in your own hands you might as well learn new things and gain skills.Totally agreed, coding certainly isn't for everyone, but if you have a knack for it, it can literally be one of the most satisfying pursuits on EARTH. Even if you don't have the time/interest/mindset to learn to write programs "from scratch" in a compiled language, expanding your knowledge enough to work with scripting systems such as GML will open a ton of doors for you and learning more about programming and game logic will likely improve the quality of any games you make regardless of what tools you use.
I mean, there's being an amazing and resourceful programmer who "breaks through walls" and then there's just self-torture.Years ago (like 1997-ish) there was an active community of coders who made games (mainly RPGs, coincidentally) and such in QB, a DOS implementation of BASIC made by our beloved Microsoft. It was slow, extremely limited, and some versions were broken in several ways, but we took pride in accomplishing what we did under such tight restrictions and many were afraid to venture beyond it because it was just so damn easy to learn. It was a great stepping stone to kindle my interest in programming and game development but ultimately I would have been better off if I'd given it up sooner and moved on to more viable languages and technologies! The point: Wolf is right, if your game ideas exceed what can be comfortably made with whatever flavor of RM, it might be time to move beyond it.
Should I buy a PS3 today?

Oh, another question, is Fallout 3 similar to games like Uncharted or Infamous? It's quite cheap.
Fallout 3 isn't really similar to either of those games, but honestly it's pretty meh (I am saying this as a huge fan of the other Fallout RPGs).
Infamous is cool btw but I'd recommend renting it :p
