Description

Is there any RMN event that you're sad you missed? An event you loved and wish you could take part in again? An event you started making something for but didn't finish?

Pick a previous RMN event from the following list and use its theme to make a new game OR finish a game you started for any of them!

  • Pick any theme you want from the list section.

  • Any of the original rules from the event you pick (other than the ones specified on the list) are optional, but please make sure to abide by the rules for this event.

  • The timeframe is also the same for everyone regardless of which event you pick. Even if you pick one of the birthday events where you had to make something under a certain number of hours, for example, you will have the whole month to work on it regardless, and the original time limitations are fully optional.

  • Rewards and achievements from the original events do not apply to this one. The only achievements you get are the ones from this event.

  • Non-gammak events, events that can't be replicated (swap in the middle, theme roulette, mcbacon jam etc...) and a few others (resurrect the dead, no-rm event, release something) have been filtered out, and cannot be picked for this event.

  • Submissions must have a game page and be at least 10 minutes long. Make sure you put which event you picked from the list on your gamepage!

  • Teams are allowed.

  • Any engine and any resources.

  • A Rainbow of Posi2vity: A game with positive LGBT+ representation that also uses a rainbow from the event page as the primary color palette.
  • 15 Years of RMN: 5 maps, 5 characters, 5 items, 5 spells, 5 collectibles.
  • Muffle's 1-Dungeon RPG Game Jam: Make a game with at least one safe place (town/hub etc), only one dungeon, at least one boss, and most importantly a prominent lizard.
  • Jingle Jangle Jam: Make a game based on a Christmas song.
  • RMN Commonplace Book: Make a game based on one of the prompts from HP Lovecraft's Commonplace Book (available online).
  • 14th Birthday: Refer to the original event page for a list of things that need to be included.
  • 1.44 Floppy Disc Drive: Make a game under 1.44MB in size.
  • Any Seasons of RMN event: Make a game based around either one of the four seasons of your choice, or all four seasons in one game.
  • Kill the Cutie!: Create a cute game that turns dark and twisted.
  • 50 Days of Representation: Make a game representing a minority group.
  • Valentiny Event: Make a romance themed game taking place on only one map.
  • A Rainbow of Positivity: Make a game that is positive in nature and focuses on either a main character who is LGBT+ or LGBT+ as a theme.
  • Abrupt Ending Party: Make a game that ends abruptly.
  • Twisted Fairy Tales: Make a game based on a fairy tale, but with a dark twist.
  • Retromania: Create a simple retro-styled game.
  • Winterruption: Structure the game to follow only sidequests, or have a short story as an aside to the quests, but the main component of the game, the main focus, must be the quests.
  • A Halloween Horror: Refer to the original event page for a list of things that need to be included.
  • RMN 9th Birthday Bash!: 3 maps, 3 characters.
  • RMN Birthday 2015: Make a game with the theme of self-inserts and cameos of other RMN members.
  • Game Name Game: Pick a game name from this thread and make a game based on it.
  • Game Chill 2013: Design a single winter-themed dungeon for the player to navigate through. You are required to include in this game at least 3 items from the following list, in some way, shape or form: Gingerbread Men, Prayer, Frosty the Snowman's hat, Hockey, Fancy dinner party, Bing Crosby
  • All Hallows' Event 2013: One of the following: Ghost Stories, Survival Horror, Monster Attack, Halloween Comedy, or Nonfiction Horror.
  • All Hallows' Event: Anything related to Halloween!
  • RMN's 5 Year Anniversary 5-hour: Badaptations. Bad video game adaptations of TV shows, movies, songs, comics, etc. You can't make an adaptation of another video game, though!
  • 2011 RMN Summer Games: Surrealism: movement that attempts to express the workings of the subconscious and is characterized by fantastic imagery and incongruous juxtaposition of subject matter.
  • RMN 4th Birthday: "Sequels that should never be made, but that we will make anyways."
  • Weekend Gamemaking Binge: The themes are Disco and Fire.
  • Scary Movie: Adapt a scary movie into a game.
  • Game Gale 2010: Escape (from prison, an alien spaceship, your boring job, a bad relationship, whatever)
  • Game Chill 2009: Your game must directly involve two opposing ideals, forces, or elements. Examples would be magnetic polarity, lightside vs. darkside, etc. BUT your game must allow you to play both sides.

Hey everyone, I finished the bugfixes for Noel and the Tower of Doom! The game should actually be playable now. Here is a link to the download: https://rpgmaker.net/games/12827/downloads/
Thanks Orochii! I'm glad yall enjoyed One Final Burial! I hadn't thought about how inconsistent some item & skill descriptions while making this version lmao. Thanks for letting me know!

Thank you so much, Orochii! I don't know how to fix the lag. It doesn't happen every playthrough, but...I think it's probably just the fact that the game is exclusively run through events, and uses none of the default RGP Maker environment. (I have her walking through the map, but I realized when I was nearly finished, I didn't even have to do that.)
@KrimsonKatt: I can't reschedule my streams sadly, as it's all the time I have available for it. Sometimes can go longer but not earlier. Hopefully the VODs give a chance to whoever can't attend to at least check out impressions and whatnot.

Second VOD! This one includes all five last games from top to bottom as they appear in the submissions list:
- Initial Legend (Demo)
- Noel and the Tower of Doom DEMO (v0.1)
- Titenic 2
- One Final Burial ("Event Event" Event Version)
- One Million Steps - Temp Upload

Here's the VOD on Twitch.

Here's exported to YouTube, since it's cost zero to do, no chat tho.

Sorry! RPG
Generally speaking I think it's a decent game, it manages to be quite long considering the time for development, the custom graphics are great, a part of me kinda wished the characters were custom to match more with the environments, but the idea of the RTP people living inside a boardgame is nice.
Gameplay suffers due to RM2k3's mechanics, but generally the balance is alright. I wish characters had a bit more of uniqueness besides base stats. Main dude being the best damage dealer since he got two weapons. The rest are a bit samey. There's no skills afaik (still pending two more zones to traverse).
All in all, it's a cute game to play through. I believe it has good potential, it was obviously limited by time.

The Collector Ver 2.1
Piano did a thing and I, heck this is great. First, not only do I applaud the mechanics being well done, but also that the game has a satisfying conclusion. Month well spent.
On things I can critique, some alerts were unnecessary (bonk, you hit a wall, as text, every time you fail to punch a wall open with your skull by mistake). There's an unfortunate lag issue which hopefully gets solved. And maybe using wands should be optional, be used as the rest of items through a menu instead of automatic, just to control when and where you use them.

When Death Wills - Underworld Accountant Agency
So here's the thing LBR :hehe:. I can't concretely explain why I liked this so much, I just enjoyed my time with it. I can enumerate things I liked. The jokes, the funny references. All things are light and chill. No time limits, no battles. Just. Get a silly premise, get a new job as French accountant (?), and solve quiz. About accounting in France.
Despite the unknown, the necessary clues were given, and I think the questions were fair. Idk, I liked it, it's just nice.
About things I'd change? Tilesets vs character graphics, they got a different resolution (the pixels in tilesets feel more stretched than in the character's).

Fall In Harbreze version 1.00
CrazyBabi makes games I like. Balance throws me into using all the tools at my disposal, and it invites you to try breaking the limits of everything. In that regard I think battles are very well designed.
I don't remember what issues I had with it, if any. Like, at the last boss I fought against I had one of my characters die, and they received half experience, which is nice. It gave me a reason to not reset. Convenience is always a plus.

Initial Legend (Demo)
I wish this had more time on the cooker because just as Sorry! this was a neat concept. It's just RTP friends doing tropey stuff.
CRT filter is interesting, tho I really think the borders should be clamped and not repeat, so it gives more the feel of a TV screen. There was obvious nods to FF1 and FF2 especially on music and some map layouts. Couldn't figure out what the battle song was from, despite having heard other MIDI renditions of it before.

Noel and the Tower of Doom DEMO (v0.1)
Too much piss. Ok I got issues with this game's sense of humor. I think I got a couple honest laughs but... piss.
Unfortunately there was an issue where the screen fade to black and never came back, and saving/reloading didn't help. ;-;
I am open to coming back to this (and finishing the rest of games I didn't finish while I'm at it).

Titenic 2
-it's my own game, no microreview-

One Final Burial ("Event Event" Event Version)
I got nothing. This game is highlight.
The gameplay approach is more combat oriented, with some other smaller events sprinkled around for variety. I didn't find much use for the Scout ability specifically, besides giving me a bit of extra flavor text.
Visually the game is a treat, texts have nice formatting, althought I did find some of the item descriptions a bit random, like, sometimes flavor text was in purple, sometimes all text in same color. Sometimes it had longer gameplay notes in a smaller font, sometimes it was all the same format. That's probably my only uh not really complaint but observation. Dragon boy is best boi btw.
Definitely hope this gets finished.

One Million Steps - Temp Upload
Ok so... I'm not gonna sugarcoat it. This one? Nasty. This one? --hm. Like, vanilla coke. I can probably drink it.
My issue with this one, well, balance was fine. Lost one party member against the chimera boss but that was on my side as I could probably have prepared just a bit better, was losing my gas to the end of the battle. Pressure felt fine too. Bar felt eternal, but it might have lasted less than I thought, maybe.
The thing is... it felt alright. It felt like a decent RPG Maker game. Nothing more, nothing less. It might also been unfair because, heck, it came just after One Final Burial, which was quite a highlight indeed.
However credit to where credit is due. There was some nice polish on acquiring items. Equipment felt like could get very nuanced maybe, and unfortunately I didn't cover much of it. And the world gave me that sensation of openness, where I'm up to my own, looking for my own adventure. It's something many games don't do, because a more linear approach is usually much less convoluted to develop.

Update: I've done mostly everything to fix the game, (Noel and the Tower of Doom) but I have one issue. The custom battle intro animation I have is bugged and the only way to fix it is with some sort of "picture masks" plugin for RPG Maker MV. Luckily I found one pretty quickly, but it requires an RPG Maker Web account to download it which is a site I'm permanently banned from and my multiple appeals I've made throughout the last 2 or 3 years or so never got any response. I made a thread earlier today but no one is answering. Can someone please download the plugin for me and cross post it somewhere else like on GitHub? I checked the TOS of that plugin and the dev says it's 100% okay to repost his work even without credit, which I find kinda insane but he can do what he wants I guess. Here is the link to the RPH Maker web post that has the plugin. Please help me!

https://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?threads/picture-image-masking-plugin-simple-graphic-effect.119767/

Edit: I'll remove the custom battle intro for now and playtest the rest of the game, then add it back once I got that masks plugin. I've gotten through the entirety of the town fixing all the bugs and now all I have to do is fix whatever bugs are in the dungeon.

Just posting stuff here so I won't forget:

-Piano's game was a cool standout - featured this month, worth checking out.
-Fflo had a really cool funny french accounting game that orochii really liked.
-Ulevo's game had a neat CRT effect for rpgmaker2003.
-CrazyBabi's game was neat, dialogue, everything, as usual, really great.
-Titenic 2 is great, super unfinished, but from what I saw it was a really neat metroidvania set inside james cameron titanic.
really wish it got finished in time. holy fuck, it was so funny and such a cool idea.

-shuruzy's game was the real highlight for me for this event, they took a bunch of previous events and made a really cool game out of it; the dialogue is great, the characters are great, the art is really great, it's short, it's simple, it's really engaging but also really fun and it's only a demo.

we haven't finished soul's or krimsonkatt yet, cause katt's game had a technical issue and soul's game was quite long, but orochii's probably gonna try and finish it, but I'd like to see the end of that one as well.

This was a really cool event, if you do another one of these, I'm definitely looking forward to it.

EDIT:I was really surprised at how long some of these event games were.

As I said before in a previous post on here, my game is broken and unplayable because I didn't have time to playtest it. The patch should be out today and if not that tomorrow since I'm off school and probably off work as well next week since my mom has covid. BTW the game so far is just a demo. The full game should be out by the end of may.

Edit: Also I'm guessing the "xvideosenergy" guy who posted 3 or 4 times on here was a porn bot who got their messages deleted and account banned? Weird.

Hey Event Event, I will stream all games from Event Event in about 1h30min from now, feel free to come by. I hope I will do them all in one go but we'll see what happens. xD
Here's stream link: https://www.twitch.tv/zorochii

I'll later on upload the VOD to youtube so it doesn't get lost and stuff, and it should be available later too as a highlight.

Sorry I couldn't catch the stream. It was at like 2:45 AM for me and I can't really stay up that late. I'll be sure to see other streams that are made as long as they are during a reasonable time for me! (Like, 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM EST)

shuruzy: One Final Burial
Solid visuals and good use of sound effects. The remixed music is very nice and enjoyable on its own, adding mood and atmosphere to the single image dungeons. Dialogues between the quirky characters are entertaining. Pacing is great and ensures that you learn the importance of every new skill you get. Overall, it's pleasant to play and well-polished.
I stumbled upon a few bugs: SP shown on the dungeon maps doesn't update after revival. The snakes lose 1.66666666667 SP after a certain attack, which looks really silly.
I made it to the 4th dungeon (I think? Maybe it's the 5th).
The big downside is that the experience is very linear, even during battles, due to the combination of having a limited set of skills and only 1 or 2 of them being useful when facing each enemy. Replay value would be very low for me. It's a good concept though, and could also be suitable for a bigger, longer, more complex and less linear game.

Thanks very much for the feedback! I'm glad to hear the dialogue was enjoyable and that the pacing was good.

Yeah I sadly noticed that snake SP issue too late before entries were due. Hoping to find out what happened there. And yeah the whole game was made very linear, I won't lie. For a jam game I figured it works, but a longer game, I'd definitely make some changes. & the rest area after the 4th floor is the end of the demo, so it sounds like you got close to the end.

Thanks again for playing!

Here's the VOD for first 4 games. Decided to highlight and link it from Twitch because it has chat.

Congratulations to everyone who submitted and participated :)

I took the time to play a few more entries (not all of them yet). Here are my thoughts and opinions, if you're interested:

Fflo: When Death Wills - Underworld Accountant Agency
Creative setting, good use of sound effects to support the scenes. I like the relaxed mood of the game to which the chill music track contributes. I had a couple of good chuckles at the few jokes that are thrown around.
The difficulty is appropriate. I didn't want to cheat so I refrained from writing anything down and still got 8/10 and 10/10.
I wish that the auto-scrolling text in the intro would remain on screen for a tad longer because I didn't have time to read everything. Another suggestion I'd make, if possible, is to show all the right answers along their respective questions when a quiz is over, or to highlight the correct answers after each question (that might require the use of Pictures).
Overall, the game is a nice, short distraction with good potential for a deeper plot.

Ulevo: Initial Legend
I'm sorry to say that I didn't play much because I couldn't enjoy it. I felt like the game brought to light a lack of experience from the developer, as there are many small annoying design decisions that pile up and make it unenjoyable. I do enjoy the Final Fantasy 1 feeling that was aimed for. I feel like there's plenty of room for improvement and it would be nice to see where an overhaul of this game could lead it.

shuruzy: One Final Burial

Karsuman, Craze, Silviera: One Million Steps
Pretty well-designed town with plenty of loot to find and a good selection of equipment to buy that will have you return several times. The gameplay is the focus, offers some variety and is pretty solid despite lacking creativity.
While the party's interactions and casual comments are entertaining, it lacks in terms of plot or well-defined objectives to keep me motivated from one task to the next. All you do is to take treasure chests and fight random encounters. There aren't any puzzles or traps, mini-games, side quests or engaging cutscenes to break the monotony.
Another thing that annoyed me is the fairly low hit rate of my party's attacks, especially Elena's.
I played for a little less than an hour and haven't finished exploring the forest (2nd dungeon).
While you could expect more from a team of veteran developers such as this one, overall it's a decent submission for the event.
