Description

Is there any RMN event that you're sad you missed? An event you loved and wish you could take part in again? An event you started making something for but didn't finish?

Pick a previous RMN event from the following list and use its theme to make a new game OR finish a game you started for any of them!

  • Pick any theme you want from the list section.

  • Any of the original rules from the event you pick (other than the ones specified on the list) are optional, but please make sure to abide by the rules for this event.

  • The timeframe is also the same for everyone regardless of which event you pick. Even if you pick one of the birthday events where you had to make something under a certain number of hours, for example, you will have the whole month to work on it regardless, and the original time limitations are fully optional.

  • Rewards and achievements from the original events do not apply to this one. The only achievements you get are the ones from this event.

  • Non-gammak events, events that can't be replicated (swap in the middle, theme roulette, mcbacon jam etc...) and a few others (resurrect the dead, no-rm event, release something) have been filtered out, and cannot be picked for this event.

  • Submissions must have a game page and be at least 10 minutes long. Make sure you put which event you picked from the list on your gamepage!

  • Teams are allowed.

  • Any engine and any resources.

  • A Rainbow of Posi2vity: A game with positive LGBT+ representation that also uses a rainbow from the event page as the primary color palette.
  • 15 Years of RMN: 5 maps, 5 characters, 5 items, 5 spells, 5 collectibles.
  • Muffle's 1-Dungeon RPG Game Jam: Make a game with at least one safe place (town/hub etc), only one dungeon, at least one boss, and most importantly a prominent lizard.
  • Jingle Jangle Jam: Make a game based on a Christmas song.
  • RMN Commonplace Book: Make a game based on one of the prompts from HP Lovecraft's Commonplace Book (available online).
  • 14th Birthday: Refer to the original event page for a list of things that need to be included.
  • 1.44 Floppy Disc Drive: Make a game under 1.44MB in size.
  • Any Seasons of RMN event: Make a game based around either one of the four seasons of your choice, or all four seasons in one game.
  • Kill the Cutie!: Create a cute game that turns dark and twisted.
  • 50 Days of Representation: Make a game representing a minority group.
  • Valentiny Event: Make a romance themed game taking place on only one map.
  • A Rainbow of Positivity: Make a game that is positive in nature and focuses on either a main character who is LGBT+ or LGBT+ as a theme.
  • Abrupt Ending Party: Make a game that ends abruptly.
  • Twisted Fairy Tales: Make a game based on a fairy tale, but with a dark twist.
  • Retromania: Create a simple retro-styled game.
  • Winterruption: Structure the game to follow only sidequests, or have a short story as an aside to the quests, but the main component of the game, the main focus, must be the quests.
  • A Halloween Horror: Refer to the original event page for a list of things that need to be included.
  • RMN 9th Birthday Bash!: 3 maps, 3 characters.
  • RMN Birthday 2015: Make a game with the theme of self-inserts and cameos of other RMN members.
  • Game Name Game: Pick a game name from this thread and make a game based on it.
  • Game Chill 2013: Design a single winter-themed dungeon for the player to navigate through. You are required to include in this game at least 3 items from the following list, in some way, shape or form: Gingerbread Men, Prayer, Frosty the Snowman's hat, Hockey, Fancy dinner party, Bing Crosby
  • All Hallows' Event 2013: One of the following: Ghost Stories, Survival Horror, Monster Attack, Halloween Comedy, or Nonfiction Horror.
  • All Hallows' Event: Anything related to Halloween!
  • RMN's 5 Year Anniversary 5-hour: Badaptations. Bad video game adaptations of TV shows, movies, songs, comics, etc. You can't make an adaptation of another video game, though!
  • 2011 RMN Summer Games: Surrealism: movement that attempts to express the workings of the subconscious and is characterized by fantastic imagery and incongruous juxtaposition of subject matter.
  • RMN 4th Birthday: "Sequels that should never be made, but that we will make anyways."
  • Weekend Gamemaking Binge: The themes are Disco and Fire.
  • Scary Movie: Adapt a scary movie into a game.
  • Game Gale 2010: Escape (from prison, an alien spaceship, your boring job, a bad relationship, whatever)
  • Game Chill 2009: Your game must directly involve two opposing ideals, forces, or elements. Examples would be magnetic polarity, lightside vs. darkside, etc. BUT your game must allow you to play both sides.

It's the Event Event event illy
Since it isn't on the list, could we do another 'Pa-Lette's Make' event sometime?
I really enjoyed that one. The limited palettes allowed us to be very creative.

I don't have anything in mind for this event yet so if anyone wants to team up...
I can offer custom 8-bit or 16-bit art as long as there isn't too much to make, and 8-bit music made with FamiTracker.

This may be the best event idea ever :O
I actually have a great idea for this one! ;)
Oh, accidental double post...
Wait, Event Event the event is such a fun idea I'm definitely in! Static Head shall ride again...

Back during the No-RM event, I briefly had it in my head to make something with Forgotten Realms - Unlimited Adventures. Such an attempt might also fit within the context of the Floppy Disk event.

I guess we'll see how ambitious I get later.

*Edit: The main drawbacks to that plan, and why this idea never saw the light of day, is two fold. The most obvious one is that FRUA is a old, DOS-based program. While it might technically be possible to run it through the command prompt, or through DOSBox, the other is that FRUA basically assumes it's players has it's RTP, and doesn't store any more data than the program needs.

Part of that is because of the intended distribution of method of these games were, wait for it, 1.44" floppy disks. So limiting what data is saved was deemed "necessary". I just don't know how that all goes down in regards to RMN. While it might not exist on GOG.com (anymore?), it seems to be a part of Forgotten Realms - Archive Collection 2?

Bleh. I can't process all of this right now.

Increased the value of achievements since I didn't realize I set them too low compared to other events. You now get 70MS instead of 50MS for a full game and 40Ms instead of 30MS for a demo.

I take it we’re encouraged to make a new project instead if finishing an existing one?

Regardless, I’m in baby!

Either/Or. At the end of the day a released game is a released game ;)
Sounds like a great event and a good opportunity to finish MinST. Unfortunately the associated event is the No-RM Event.
I thought nothing was gonna stand out to me, but an excuse to practise NES palettes is a welcome challenge.
The month-long time frame makes me wanna try to put something out...

But things are kind of a mess for me ATM (Health issues, exhaustion, tax season, putting together a TTRPG setting, etc) so I legit don't know...

I'll see if I put something out but I really don't know...

The most tempting category is "RMN 4th Birthday: "Sequels that should never be made, but that we will make anyways." " because I can TOTALLY make a sequel to Cursed Crown.

Take retro graphics, make a simple 3D dungeon crawler, should be simple enough, right?

I'm going to make a two for 1. A simple 2D platformer mario clone with 8 bit graphics (retromania) about a trans magical girl. (a rainbow of positivity) Wish me luck!
Does prequel count as a sequel?
For "RMN 4th Birthday: "Sequels that should never be made, but that we will make anyways."".

I'll allow it

Edit: PSA for everyone please keep in mind "sequels that should never be made" implies shitposts or sequels that are terrible ideas from the get go. Please don't infer it as "i'll just make a sequel to one of my games" especially if it's a perfectly solid serious sequel. Like the difference between making The Godfather Part II vs The Godfather Goes to Disneyland

I see, it would not fit then.
Thankfully, I have another theme in mind.
