Description

This is the second time we've ran the Swap in the Middle with You event. It's a pretty simple premise. You start a game and work on it for two weeks. At the end of that fortnight all the games are pooled and then distributed semi-randomly to each other. Then everyone finishes the games they are given over the two weeks.

Rules
  • Sign up below. Make sure that you're dedicated for the both parts of the event.

  • Games must be new and made only for this event.

  • You may use any RM engine. Sorry, while it is a neat idea in theory to use any engine, most people who sign up might not have experience in those engines, limiting the ability to finish the games. Please point out if you have the legal or non-legal versions of RPG Maker 2000 and 2003! It won't do anyone any good if I hand you a legal version to finish when you only have the non-legal version to work with, after all!

  • If you only have access to a particular RM engine, please note that in the comment section so that I know to account for that when distributing the first half of the games.

  • Also, make sure to include an RTP stand-alone version of the game (and include resources) when passing it over so that your partner is not looking for different files to make it work.

  • When it comes time to submit, for the first half of the game upload the WIP to the event locker (accessed by Submit in the top corner).

  • First halves of games must be in by the time shown under the Details section after you add your time offset in the settings of your account. The Date End reflects this and will be changed when the second halves are handed out.

  • The second halves will be submitable by game page ONLY. Make a game page for your game whenever you like, just remember to update the information when the second creator comes into play.

  • To keep time realistic, aim for each half to have a half-hour of play at the most. This will make an hour-long game, which is pretty decent for a month of work. You can go over this amount, but remember that the longer the game, the less chance there is to finish it.

  • At least 10 minutes of game play time per half!

  • In the spirit of the event, don't be a back-seat driver to the second creators. They can take the game where they like - that's half the fun of the event. In fact, let's just say that you keep your fingers out of the game pie after it gets handed over. Make it something of a surprise, eh?

  • All games must abide by site rules - pared down to 'no hate speech, no highly sexual content, etc'. If you have questions about what is and is not appropriate, PM Liberty and ask.

As always, there's badges to consider~
Started in the Middle with You, Too - 50MS - Received at the end of the event for those who started a game and had it completed.
Ended in the Middle with You, Too - 50MS - Received at the end of the event for those who finished a game.

Creators are allowed to change the content of the first half of the game this time around, in order to make it fit the end half ideas. It's expected so don't be upset if you find your game has changed between sending it off and getting it back! I highly recommend making your first half a fun game that you don't mind morphing into something else, so as to stave off any protective instincts you may have towards the story and ideas.

If it helps people to disassociate themselves a bit from being clingy with their games think of the first half of the event as you making part of a game for someone else - it's not your game, it's theirs. You're just making it for them to mess with. The second half is where you get to make what your get yours.

Remember, we're doing this for fun, guys, and a big part of that is seeing how someone else takes your ideas and makes them into something else. Ideally we'll see games come from this with interesting changes and twists, so don't get attached to the first halves!

If there's bitching this time around I am going to say that LockeZ told me so and I'm sorry for thinking that anyone on this site can take part in an event without whining that an event about swapping halves of games and letting others finish them off - which includes possibly editing what is already existing to make the rest of the game fit - was possible in the first place.

I was warned. I still chose to run this event despite that. I have faith in our little community. This is my disclaimer.

Please read the blue at the bottom of the event page!

Also, I own all the engines.
I'm in coach! I have 2k, 2k3, Xp, VX, VXA, and MV. (Also VNM, but its not reaaaally an RM Engine. Kinda.) Most of my experience is in MV, but also used 2k/3 and VXA a fair bit too.

I'll give it a try. I only really have VX Ace, though.
Alright, I'm gonna sign up, since this sounds like a really neat idea! I've got access to RPG Maker 95, 2000, 2003, XP, VX, VX Ace and MV, though I'm most likely going to be using XP for this event.
Don't worry - I'll be sure to hook you all up with games that you have the engines for in the second half, so that you don't need to worry too much.
I am going to sign up. You mentioned a stand-alone RTP version so I assume using things out of the RTP would be frowned upon afterall the next person might not have that stuff. I am just trying to figure out if I wanted to say use Tiled and 2k3 resources in MV or just stick to the RTP/forum stuff that can be transferred with the game files.

Also I have legal versions of 2k, 2k3, XP, VX Ace, and MV.
Stand-alone RTP just means include the RTP files you use and add the necessary notation in the ini files (for 2k/3, XP, VX and Ace) so that they don't need to install the RTP to play it. (If it's a 2k/3 game you might as well just include all the RTP files. They total about 20 MB.)

So that settles it. I do not use the standard VX, XP, FES, or 95. (I have XP but have absolutely no experience with it and so could not possibly be confident in my ability to finish a game with it for an event.)

My engines: MV, VX Ace, 2003, 2000.

For this event, I will be using 2k3, this time. Those using 2tsuk3 will find it difficult to convert from, so I don't recommend giving my game to anyone that doesn't have the legal version. Conversely, I can immediately update Tsukuru files to the legal engines since they have options for it.
That's fine! >.<)b

Well, it says to "include resources". I take that to mean that you include the RTP (or what you used of it), and whatever other resources you used for your half.

*Edit: Er, seems like the post I was responding to was answered.

Yay! I missed out last time on account of joining RMN just after it finished. Next month might be hella busy for me but I hope I can partake in this because it seems really fun!
I wanna use VX Ace but I'm also open to 2k3, XP or MV. :D

Also sorry in advance for whoever I get and whoever gets me haha ^-^;
I'm a sniper queen~

I clarified above that I only use the legal version of 2k / 2k3 given Piano's post.

With my ideas, I'm spitting them up into "shipping" (ie: things I'll aim to do in the first half) and "receiving" (ie: things I'll aim to do for the second half).

Sorry, there will be no shipping (in the romantic sense) of characters/people involved. At least for my halves of the equation.
That's okay, most shipping occurs via the fandom. I'll ship your first and second halves. OTP

Legal 2k, legal 2k3, xp, vx, vx ace. I also have mv but I would prefer to only use it if no one else is able to take an mv project. Is that selfish to ask? Probably.

Sign me the fuck up baby.

You make a first half and submit it.

Then someone else's first half gets assigned to you and you finish it by giving it a second half.

So yeah, technically ^^
Yes. You'll make a first half, then hand that in. I'll then randomly give everyone one of those games and you make the second half for it.
