Original Graphics: Original characters, creatures, items and splash art.

A Chilling Sci-fi Horror Setting - A setting and storyline influenced by sources as diverse as System Shock 2, Freelancer, Dead Space, John Carpenter's The Thing, and Dante's Inferno.

Story

According to one theory, Earth's moon was formed by collision with another planetoid early in our solar system's history. This theoretical planetoid is known as Theia, the mother of Selene (the moon) in early Hellene mythology.

The theory states that Theia would have been completely consumed in the collision, its mass integrated with Earth's.

Why, then, in the outer reaches of the Oort cloud, where astronomers expect to find only comets and isolated bodies of ice, has a planet been found whose composition exactly compliments planet Theia of the Giant Impact theory? Almost a light-year away from the Sun, it hangs on by a mere slip of a gravitational tether, and would certainly have been long lost to the system were its orbit not almost immeasurably slow.

Wherever it came from, it was the last beacon of hope for White Horse Enterprises, a sluggish corporation whose dewy-eyed business ethics made it uncompetitive in the corrupt, overpopulated world of 2072. They established a mining facility on Planet Theia as a showcase for their progressive, philanthropic business practices. In the words of White Horse's CEO: "This venture will go forward, and it will establish a precedent that only an act of God can supersede."

The venture seemed doomed for bankruptcy until a survey drone uncovered what appeared to be an alien artifact, deep under the planet's surface. Desperately needing to capitalize on the discovery, the admins have planned an investor's gala in the P. Lowell Executive Chalet, a small luxury resort with a stunning view of the mining installation, where the artifact will be unveiled to the public.

... And now, for some reason, you've just woken up on the floor of your sleep quarters. You have no recollection of the last week, and your co-workers have turned into monsters. Your only guidance is a droning automated announcement system and the clues your colleagues left behind before losing their minds.

Welcome to Planet Theia. It's always dark out.

My god we're going back for this one

Two days ago I finally started using Rogaine, even though I'm about 15 years too late for it to make a difference!

Well we all know how it goes, I still want to shake the usual farts out of the bedsheets and say that sOmEdAy ThIs PrOjEcT wIlL bE dOnE i PrOmIsE but it looks to be something that I'll have to be toying with on and off for years and maybe finish it when I'm 50. Because I was visited by that terrible spectre of Another Idea For A Game That Seems Like It Will Be Less Work And More Likely To Pay Off Than The Current Idea (AIFAGTSLIWBLWAMLTPOTTCI). I've actually been working on the AIFAGTSLIWBLWAMLTPOTTCI for the last year. I don't want to be an idiot who strings along projects for years and then never finishes anything because of yet another AIFAGTSLIWBLWAMLTPOTTCI, with the old tune of i'Ll GeT bAcK tO tHiS pRoJeCt OnCe ThE nEw OtHeR iDeA iS dOnE. Every time I do this I lose more and more confidence in myself. But the AIFAGTSLIWBLWAMLTPOTTCI can be very seductive.

The latest AIFAGTSLIWBLWAMLTPOTTCI is a furry-themed building management sim made in Game Maker, and the building that you're managing is a public bathroom. You place facilities like toilets and sinks and make money by selling different types of septic effluent. It leans heavily on the vulgar subject matter, because furries like that sort of thing. But it's not really an RPG so I don't want to make a project page here. Does anyone know of another website where I might make a project page for that sort of game?

What Ghost said.

I keep trying to tell people that this game is *perhaps the best (unfinished) game on rmn* but people rarely listen.

Plus Gibmaker's not the best at self promotion it seems :P

Well I replaced the download a few times which resets the counter. ^^ (At least it did under the old system.)

Thanks again. :) Yes I suck at promoting this game but that's partly because it's years and years from being done.
It's the journey, not the destination, and this is one heck of a ride.

Did this happen and I missed it or are we still waiting on the goodness?

Still waiting. :X
my first thought was 'what a gimmicky ui' but this game is slowly winning me over
"sporting ultrasolid gameplay reminiscent of old school rpgs and highly compelling plot driven by relatable and mature characters written and drawn like believable human beings, the stage of sd is an understated but rich scifi universe--beautifully detailing every surface and nook in both bureaucracy and technology--whose near-permanent entrenchment in an atmosphere of intense gloom drew me hopelessly into the bosom of its madness until, and right up to the demos heartbreakingly premature ultima, the dim corridors of white horses mining installation on planet theia became my own insular and very personal universe. lovingly crafted and delightfully intelligent, set discrepancy is an extremely worthwhile experience, and mysterious as the dark side of the moon." ~ brad pitt

Wh--! Brad Pitt!
V 1.0.4 feedback inbound

1) title menu, some weird overlap between the side silhouettes' arms and the center one's body that I don't remember seeing before. Probably has something to do with transparency settings or layering? The arms of the figures behind seem to be overlapping the figure in front, causing weird perspective issues.

2) This could be just from staring at the monitor too long, but I think Henry Lee has some weird cropping around the edges of his sprite. Super nitpicky!

Nothing else jumped out at me so far, but I'm just prowling around the early areas, looking for potential breaks.
Oh something I keep forgetting to mention is... Some of the animations for doors opening end on the door being shut at the last frame and then disappearing, which is very odd. Like they'll go.. open a bit, open more, open more, closed again, open fully. It's a very odd-looking animation.

@kumada: I know about the thing with the overlapping shadows. It seems to be some sort of limitation on the draw engine. But thanks for playgin!?

@NewbLack: I know about that too. Bah. But since it doesn't crash the game I've been putting it off and putting it off and putting it off and

Mmm, gin.
More feedback:

-Dropped items bunched together in convenient boxes. Oh, thank god. Every game needs this.

-Guns load via the gun, not via bullets. Also good.

-Intro hands out items like candy, which decreases the survivalist tension in the game. Granted, it also makes it more accessible to new players. I'm curious whether other folks felt like there was too much starting gear.

-MINOR TYPO "Makes you wonder what interspace commerce is say to think when they find out."

-MINOR BUG Handgun missed a bandaged man (63% accuracy, 0 wield displayed but actually 2 wield,) but then did damage anyway.

-Got the apollo laser. I'm playing the design specialist, so I had him take a look at the thing and try to upgrade it. Requirements for upgrading were listed as "Engineering OR" and nothing else. I upgraded it to full. If doing so caused me to lose anything from my inventory, I can't figure out what. Certainly no nanites were consumed. Bug?

-Reached the rec module. Everything smooth so far. Gameplay feels balanced. No unanticipated bugging issues (yet. Still haven't had to split the party.) Looking forward to playing more.
Finished Cave of Shadows. There were no bugs.

None.

I even went looking for them.

What have you done with the game I once knew?!
So, if this is version 1.0, does that mean the game is complete?
