Plot Overview

In the world of Linguardia, the nations of Rikalia and Dorent are the reigning powers. Although both leaders have been at peace for centuries, a dark cloud is on the horizon. King Richard, leader of the Rikalian Empire, has recently lost his wife and daughter to a pack of demons. Now, his mind twisted from grief, Richard is on a quest for domination. His plan: to harness the power of the six legendary crystals, which, according to scriptures, will bestow the wielder with unimaginable powers if brought together. With Richard on a path of destruction to collect the crystals, war seems inevitable.

Players take control of Epoch Lander, Captain of Richard's Dragon Knights, an elite force within the Rikalian Empire. However, when Epoch begins questioning the morals behind Richard's actions, he is arrested for treason and sentenced to death. With his head full of unanswered questions, Epoch must decide whether to accept his fate or fight for what he believes to be the greater good: even if it means fighting alone.

Soundtrack Complete!

Jose has just finished the last two songs of the soundtrack, bringing the OST to a grand total of 36 songs. With those final two, the Forever's End soundtrack is now complete! I really have to thank Jose for all the hard work he put into these songs. They all sound fantastic, and I can't wait to release the next episode with them implemented. Great job, bro!

Do know though, there are a few songs that will be included with the game that aren't custom. Not many, but a few, mainly because some of my cutscenes were already built around these songs. However, all of the ones included on this gamepage are the custom ones composed by Jose.

With the soundtrack complete, I thought I'd list out a few of my personal favorites. If you have any favorites, please comment and show Jose some love.

Traveling - Overworld Theme

The Reprieve

Dangerous Wilderness

The Death Knight - Marcellus' Theme

Spiritualization

Journeying Forward

Cutting a Path

In the Heat of Battle - Boss Theme 2

A Dying Planet's Last Breath

Guess it's time to download this again. I'm in the middle of another game right now (The Frog for Whom the Ball Tolls)but I will give it a whirl soon.
I hadn't read any of the hype for this game, and went in with no expectations...

Well, I just finished Episode 1, and I've got to hand it to you, it's an "epoch" journey that feels like the Final Fantasy that never was...

I think you've done a splendid job so far, and I certainly hope you have access to all the resources (and time) you need to craft the story you are imagining.

It's a game I will definitely recommend in the future!

Malvir, Mercellus, Elise, Crystals on the loose; these are dangerous times friend!

...

I ran into only one game breaking bug in my quest, when I ran from... the rare monster behind the waterfall. When in control of Cyrus, Lee and G. I was near the top of the screen? And the monster pressed against the wall after running and the game got stuck waiting for his move.

...

I did encounter the battle music stop bug a lot, not exactly sure how I trigger it; but it's not too troublesome unless it's for a rare monster fight! Then I feel like I need to restart the battle to give it a proper epic feel xD

...

My favorite characters are Epoch and Elise; although actually all of the characters were a lot of fun. I was worried when I was forced to play as Lee that it might be a scenerio that I wouldn't appreciate... But, even Lee is awesome!

...

I was a little surprised how Epoch had no moral issues after assassinating all of the Rikalia guards in the beginning. I wondered if getting that "Assassin's blade" would negatively affect something... but nope!

...

I was a little outraged when Epoch didn't shout out to his soldier friend when he took his own life... But, I can imagine Epoch didn't realize exactly what he was about to do... Too bad he had to die that way though, would have been nice to give him a redeeming end...

...

The first time I fought Mercellius I spent the battle powering up my spirit lol; then suddenly he said "I'm dissapointed... is that the best you can do?" lol....
I was like wait... Nooo!

...

Oh, that's right... Emily was it? The girl from Alex's time. Her portrait looks really strange... I mean, her chin looks... visually odd... No offense intended, I was wondering if I was the only one that thought that? Or if she is supposed to look that way? Just by reducing the chin a little she looks normal though...

...

I think you handled all of the concurrent scenerios really well! Although when there were six at once they felt a bit short by the end... Each were still great. There was so much content to the game, and I'm hoping that I'm only half way through... I can't imagine how much work must have gone into it so far! But, I loved every minute of it!

...

Although you didn't make (most or all?) of the music in this release, I loved it. I have a soft spot for Shadow Hearts, and even the tracks I didn't recognize fit right in... Maybe these songs were intended for Forever's End after all! xD

...

Ah there was one place on the world map, I don't remember where now, where I could see improper sprites? On the far left of the screen? I could see square or maybe non-alpha blended landmass parts? It was half way through? It's nothing major, but I noticed it...

...

Battles later on sometimes felt a little slow, while waiting for the your character's turn to come up. It's not bad though, just thought I would mention it...

...

Battles felt pretty balanced for the most part. Although I thought it was usually a bit too easy, and the monsters would do some foolish things like recasting spells they already have on themselves. But, then again I DID clear EVERY area, tried to get every little extra secret and powerup available! So... that might explain that! (I was usually on target with the monster's level when I started an area, and exceeded it by the end. Boss battles were usually very easy because of this.) But, the battles were never boring. Thanks to a constant new variety of monsters and scanning/capturing. You can even avoid them usually if you want!

I might say though that the way the aggrovated monsters chase you is a bit too simple. By the end I would just stop right in front of where they would turn blue, making it kind of amusing xD But, the system works as it is... don't want to impose a lot of extra work on something like that...

...

Anyway, bottomline. I enjoyed this game a bunch. Brilliant work! This earns a spot in my top 3 rpgmaker games! (And a high rating in all RPGs!)

@XCalibar: Thanks man! I appreciate the feedback and the praise. In response to some of your points:

- Emily's portrait was probably my fault. I had to decrease the size and quality to fit 2k3's requirements, so the faces my look a bit more deformed. You can see the original portrait in high quality on this gamepage (under Deuteragonists).
- Yeah, this music this time around was all from commercial sources (except the title screen song, which was custom made). Episode 2 will feature a fully custom soundtrack of about 35 songs. You can check them out under the media tab here on the gamepage, if you'd like (or check the most recent blog for my personal favorites).
- The slower battles is actually a problem with the 2k3 engine. For some reason, having more people in battle causes the ATB bar to move more slowly. Thankfully, 20XX and Cherry's DynRPG plug-in will help alleviate that issue for next time (hopefully).
- Yeah, if you got every power-up and skill, the game up to that point is pretty easy. But there's still a lot left (Episode One stopped a little under half way), so expect battle difficulty to jump up in later releases.

Thank you again for playing, and I hope you'll check back when Episode 2 is released!
I was looking through my files deleting stuff when I came upon FE. Came here hoping there'd be an update or something but it doesn't look like there's anything new. Any idea when new content will be released?
It sort of bothers me that the names of the two main female protagonists, Elise and Elizabeth, are so alike. Did you do this intentionally? ...and did anyone else notice? lol

Amazing game, though. Can't wait for part 2. :)

Yeah, sorry for the lack of updates lately. Progress has been slower because I've been applying to grad school and studying for GREs. I've also been messing around with my new drawing tablet a lot (trying to work on my art skills). I am still working hard on this though. The thing that is really sucking up most of my time is the side quests. Episode One had very few sidequests, so it's really adding an extra burden to the production. However, the extra time I'm putting into them really will make for a more enjoyable experience than the usual "fetch quest" or "scavenger hunt" (at least, that's the plan).

I noticed the same thing a few weeks ago when I was listing out the party members. Elizabeth, Elise, Emily...man, I guess I love names that start with "e", haha. But no, it wasn't intentional (wait, Epoch starts with an E too....damn!).
so are you still working on the remake or update or whatever to episode one or are you started on e2?

Oh no, I'm well into Episode Two, haha. I really need to start posting some new screenshots. I've been a bit reluctant, just because I don't want to spoil too much. I have a video planned that will show off some new stuff, like the Star Ocean Private Action-esque (which I call Party Breakdowns), but I need to finishing implementing a few things first. You start using these PAs when you acquire all of your party members.

I'm still not quite close enough to give a date of release. I'd rather not make the same mistake I made before and make a promise I can't keep (especially with so many "real life" events to worry about these days). I will also admit that I've had some writer's block with some points in the story, which has also has delayed things a bit. >_<''

EDIT: Oh, but make sure you hold on to your save file from Episode One, as they will be compatible with the next release. ^ ^

Writer's block..man, I really hate that illness! Glad to see you're making good progress on this though, since Forever's End still remains one of the best games made in rpgmaker2003 imo. :)

I'm seriously considering replaying the whole thing... I still have my old saves (I think..), but I think a refresher would be nice. Plus, it's only 10-20 hours of goodness that I wouldn't mind revisiting!
Hey Nico, if you need me to beta Episode Two for you just hit me up. I'll be glad to do it again :)

Yep yep! A lot of those tunes will be played again later in the game as well, so they will hear them all, don't worry. ^ o ^

Just to clear things up, was the whole new content thing done before December or after/during December?

Also, whenever I had to deal with writers block when writing my story I'd tend to just find someone with an interest in it and then engage in conversation. Even better if you can manage to still stay vague about major plot points!
Ok, I got to the cutscene with Elijir burning the village. Then I get a scene with the Hooded bad guy who's friends with Marcellus talking to some soldiers. Then I get a game over. An automatic game over. What gives? I've looked around for this but can't find metnion of it anywhere. Is this the end of episode one or what? There seems to be way more of the game that people are referring to, btu whenever I watch this cutscene, I get a forced gameover. What's happening?

Oh sorry, I think I know what happened. I'm guessing the battle with Hyuga ended with Epoch dead, and the next scene has you controlling Epoch alone, which causes the game to give you a game over. If you upload your save file to your locker, I will fix it for you right away.

@Rainen: I'm not sure what you mean. Episode One is completely finished, so any new content will be in Episode Two.
@NiboB: I was trying to figure out if I downloaded and played the game before or after the new content was added. I recently discovered that I have, in fact, downloaded the game after it was updated since all my saves took place months after the download on here was updated.
TL:DR my questions are answered and i eagerly await FE2
