Latest Patch: 1.69. If you have an earlier version, please download the latest patch as soon as possible.

The download has been updated to version 1.69. It includes all fixes up to this point. There is no need to re-download if you have patched in the fixes separately.

You know that game many aspiring devs create? The one starring their friends, often times based on a chat room, or some forums, or a MMO... or perhaps a fangame that barely resembles its source material. The one that gets maybe a half hour of gameplay finished and is completely unintelligible to anyone except that group of friends. Yeah, that one. Now, what if someone actually saw that project all the way through, and attempted to actually make it a fun, accessible, and playable game that was faithful to its source material?

Enter Legend of Balance. This game originally started out as a fun little project for friends, starring characters from Final Fantasy XIV. Over time, and with a ton of effort, it changed into a complete game of its own. It still stars our characters, and there are still a few injokes, but the plot has been set up as such that any Final Fantasy fan can get into the game and enjoy it as a light hearted Final Fantasy romp. Players of FFXIV will find quite a bit to enjoy as well. The story of the game takes place inbetween the end of FFXIV 1.0 and the start of A Realm Reborn(if you haven't played FFXIV, this part probably doesn't matter, and the game can be standalone).

The game revolves around a group of heroes, champions of the realm of Eorzea. In the midst of an intense battle to decide the fate of Eorzea, the heroes are transported away before facing certain death at the hands of Bahamut. Finding themselves separated in a brand new world, the heroes begin a journey to reunite and find a way home. However what starts off as a simple quest quickly unfolds into a classic journey of crystals, great evil, and steadfast allies. Before this adventure ends, they will discover the truth behind this strange new world, and uncover the binds that tie it to their own home and beyond.

-30 to 40 hours of gameplay, including a multitude of sidequests.

-Enjoy a faithfully recreated Final Fantasy battle system. Everything is as you remember it from the classics!

-Utilize classic abilities, including commands such as Jump, Runic, Blitz, Mime, Throw, Mix, Blue Magic, Dualcast, and much more, along with new commands and abilities based on other games in the series, such as Draw Out from Tactics.

-Equip Magicites to gain access to powerful summons and customize your stat growth.

-A huge cast of unique playable characters, including several hidden ones.

-Find and use faithfully recreated equipment. Favorites like the Ultima Weapon, Illumina, Brave Blade/Chicken Knife, Offering, and much, much more is all here to find and use to become unstoppable!

-Dozens of sidequests ensure there's plenty to do, with no need for excess grinding.

-Face off against familiar foes and brand new ones, including a nostalgia filled bonus dungeon for those who complete the main story.

-Facing a foe that your current party can't handle? Switch party members anytime, even in the middle of a fight!

-Buy rare and unique items at the Auction House, and battle in the Colosseum!

-Take part in minigames, including fishing and an arcade-style airship shooter.

-Customizable Battle Speed, Battle Mode, and Difficulty will get you the experience you want, be it tough as nails or a more relaxed game.

Playing the game at higher resolution

Hey all! I just wanted to post a link to an upscaler that will let you play pretty much any rpgmaker game at a much higher resolution.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/magpie.mirror/

Download this and follow the instructions, open Magpie, then the game, then press alt+F11. I'd suggest using either the Anime4k or CRT upscalers for LoB. This will let you play the game in fullscreen and it will look really nice!

That's weird, I haven't heard of anyone having any problems since we moved the download. I'm not really too sure what I can do about this, unfortunately. I can try putting up a mirror somewhere else if that would help, but it wouldn't be until later.

I tried here too, and i'm having the same problem... It's very strange, because i had downloaded without problems.
Trying it myself to see for myself if it works, but I'll upload it to google and put a mirror up.

Might just be a One Drive limit that we were not aware of... Or maybe its an ISP specific issue... do not know :/ I was just able to download a copy right now. Either way uploading now.

FF LoB 1.62 Mirror has been Added to the downloads section
- Be aware this was added to Google Drive, and google drive has a fairly small bandwidth limit, so only use this link if you can't get the main download to work.

Now the download on Google Drive worked. My friend and i (for testing) were able to download now. Thank you so much!! :)
When you complete the "bonus" dungeon, will it affect the storyline if I decide to battle the last boss again?
Nope, it will be the same as before, unless you completed side quests and extra scenes that unlock the "good" ending.
Hello RydiaMist

Is the first time I feel totally frustrate (63 YOS) and still playing this kind of game :-) I love it, this is the first time I can´t play a game, I download the last version, and I can´t start to play, the same error xinput1_3 appear, I followed the Microsoft link you submitted to check mi DirectX and I have the last version of it, please helpppppp I want to play your game what can I do in order to fix it?

Thaks in advance.
I'm sorry you're having that error. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what could be wrong... everyone else who has had that error has just had to update their DirectX. Have you tried downloading it anyway? It could just be a missing component it needs to install.
Ok thank you, I will do it, I realy want to play your game because I am a "gameholic" grandmother :-) . I will let you know if it does not function
Rydiaaaaaaaaa thanks a lot, I am happy I did what you recommend me to do, and right now I am watching the most beautiful screen FF :-) , I hope the game contiunue running. whahahahaha
That's good! I'm glad you were able to get it working, and hope you enjoy the game! =)

I wanted to give this game a shot and review it under proper scrutiny, but the controls were terrible. Why was it changed so wildly from the default? Why is it Enter Shift (I apologize) to open the menu and X to close out of it? Looking through the project in VX Ace, I also couldn't help but notice how liberally you used the sample maps for your content. Now I'm not going to say that the two people who gave you 4-5 star reviews are wrong, but it does make me wonder...

I'm sure the story is fine for what it's meant to be (a lighthearted satire on Final Fantasy), but everything else doesn't mesh well. I fought past Minotaurus, but that's as much progress as I made, sadly.
@Corfaisus
As far as the controls go, everyone who worked on this project/gave feedback on this project prior to releasing it on RPGmaker.net was a veteran PC MMO player (most of which have never touched an RPG maker game before). Based on their feedback, we decided to change it to a control scheme that was more conducive to most PC MMOs. (Though Enter should be Confirm/Interact and not menu, Menu should be Shift or I)

Map wise we did use a lot of the stock maps reskined/entrances, which when we started this project was not a huge deal since our original intended audience back when we started wasn't exactly people who played RPG maker games in general, but hindsight is 20/20, and by the time we actually decided to release it to a wider audience, the default maps were the least of our concern. Fixing all the maps at that point would have heavily extended the development time, and Rydia and myself both agreed that the time would be better spent fixing the story/fixing Gradd maps(don't ask)/fixing bugs/making another game with the stuff we learned from this one.

Rydia and I will look further into the controls to see if there is a way to make it so users can switch between default RPGmaker controls and standard PC controls in the in-game config, ideally that would be something we would like to do.
Oh man, this game has just. Been. INCREDIBLE SO FAR. Like, holy crap I have been absolutely in love with it. It's actually just becoming one of my favorite Final Fantasy games to play. It's got great pacing, good features, and all of the characters have been mechanically diverse and interesting. It's wonderful. Seriously you guys are amazing. I just picked up RPG maker and was looking for games to sort of inspire me/show me what it's capable of, so I decided to try this and man. It's blowing me away.

Now I have one request, but by all means feel free to shoot it down. Would it be possible for you to put a list of Blue Magic in the FAQ with places to get it? One thing that sort of makes me...anxious when playing games is worrying that I've missed something, and Blue Magic has always done that to me. That's why whenever I play a Final Fantasy I always make it a point to keep a Blue Magic FAQ handy. It'd make things a heck of a lot easier on me. But even if you don't this game has been wonderful so far. :D
@ArkthePieKing

I can probably come up with something today/tomorrow on our FAQ section. I'm glad you are enjoying the game so far :D
@Corfaisus: Basically Ashiee covered everything. The game originally started off as a fun little project for friends, that said friends enjoyed and encouraged us to release to the public. Because of that, yeah, there's sample-based maps, but nearly all of them have been reskinned/edited in some form, to the point that unless someone was pretty familiar with them they wouldn't notice unless they opened them in the editor.

The controls were changed because unless you're just used to them (which of course on a primarily RPGMaker site, most people will be), the default RPGMaker controls are kind of awkward. Nearly every tester complained about them, and few modern gamepads worked with the game, so I changed them (most buttons do have multiple binds which are in the readme). That said, before releasing it here, I really should have considered that people on RMN would be a lot more comfortable with the standard controls than non-RM folks and should have released a version accordingly. This is something I'll definitely look into doing, as it has probably been the most major complaint about the game on RMN.

Honestly, I am really surprised this game is as popular and well received as it is. Most people who enjoy it cite the gameplay, humor, and replication of Final Fantasy mechanics as reasons they enjoy it. Obviously, it's not for everyone, and it was never really designed to withstand scrutiny by seasoned RM developers, but just to be a fun game for friends and FF fans.

All that said, I'm sorry you don't enjoy our game. It is what it is. We have started premilinary work on a new FF fangame that will be made from the ground up to have wide appeal, with entirely original maps made up of almost entirely FF tilesets (with edits), an original setting with new characters, and a more engaging, traditional Final Fantasy story. Hopefully that game will address the shortcomings of LoB. =)

@ArkthePieKing: Thank you for the kind words, I'm glad you're enjoying the game so much! Some of the Blue Magic is easy to miss, so as Ashiee said we'll try and get something up in the FAQ section with a list of where to get it all.
Thanks a bunch. I've read through some of the comments and you guys have just been on point with addressing peoples' concerns and feedback. You have better 'customer service' than most businesses. You all should be proud. :P
All right, me thinks I'm officially stuck. Either that or the game bugged, but probably the former.

So after the party reforms after everyone gets split up, I got my ship which is dandy. However I believe I went to the right spot, but there's nothing to do. The NPC who shall remain nameless DID say to go to the ruined town southwest of the volcano town, did he not? Or am I making that up? I went there and there's just a lonely skeleton hanging out with nothing else to do. If I'm missing something let me know!
@Arkthepieking

Uhhh <_< hopefully I can remember it off the top of my head, it seems like you are going to the wrong place. You should be going to the town South East of Aquaria, not Volcano Town. its actually fairly close to Aquaria.
Yep! I derped hard. I got fixated on the description of the town (disaster fell) and the bad person involved (it was near that castle and all) and assumed I had found the right spot. Thanks for the help! :D
