Fey

A tale of two unlikely friends struggling to piece together their broken pasts.

Everyone has or will face loss of life and faith. These pivotal times are part of each and everyone of our spiritual journeys. Why then do some people emerge from the crisis with their life and faith intact, while others give up on hope, a future, and their reason for living? For Landon, a young boy now burdened by the mistakes of his past, such moments have weighed heavily on his conscience. It isn't until a mysterious shape shifter named, Picaro, draws him back into his broken past, that Landon can find the means and strength to move on with his life.

The spiritual successor to Darkness Shall Bleed, Fey allows players to take control of, Landon Ferngrass and embark on a journey that will push him to his emotional, intellectual and physical limits as he tries to set his past right and discover the truth behind Oak Island and the legendary artifact of souls, the Fire Pearl.

EXCITING NEWS!

Hello!

It's been a while, but I'm back with some news that I'm excited to share. If you're a fan of anything I've produced, most recognized example being Fey (https://rpgmaker.net/games/778/), then boy oh boy do I have news for you. With the advent of RPG Maker (officially) and the ability to publish to itch.io and Steam, I've been hard at work on What's Left (link below). It is a complete re-imagining of Fey, what it was intended to be. It is important to note that this is not just an official release, but something fresh, new, and more importantly... whole. The original version of Fey was, regrettably, rushed, and over half of the game was cut due to too many reasons to list here. But as time passed, it strengthened the sense of unfinished business. That and some persistent fans and friends finally tipped the scales and I began to revise, expand and rebuild the game from the ground up. What was a couple hour experience now spans 6-8, more if you consider the new side quests, hidden areas, secrets to uncover, tools and weapons, locations, story, dialogue, the ability to purchase a house, get a citizenship, buy furniture for your home, explore chunks of open world and etc. The list goes on, and on, and on. Some more notable things are the revised combat system, the ability to use swap weapons on the fly, the new menu, introduction and branching cutscenes. What I felt was a unique game (with the aim for it to play like a movie) is now a complete experience.... Oh, and for my fans (by popular request) there is a TON more Picaro, including the ability to utilize his unique powers at will. For more information, and to keep up to date on the progress, (Steam page is under construction, along with Youtube page, itch.io, and various others) clink the link below and subscribe. You can also sneak a peak at some more videos and screenshots on my Twitter and Instagram! Make sure to follow on your preferred platform! I appreciate the support and hope you'll share my excitement as I move toward release with in the coming months!!!

It happens an "The file system2c cannot be opened"... Anyone knows how to fix?
It seems that the file isn't included in the download. Try downloading and installing the english translation of the RTP. Or you can just get any "System2" graphic, change its name to "system2c" and put it in the System2 folder into the game's directory.

Hope it resolves your problem,
Orochii Zouveleki
This truly is one of my favorite RM games, keep up the good work.
I just finished the new demo, and I can only say: CLIFFHANGER!

But seriously, it was great, and I really liked the changes you made to the gameplay.

I hope this will be finished soon, so that we can play the full game.
Thanks! I'm hard at work on pushing through to the end! Almost finished another chapter!
Thanks again. Every little bit counts an helps me stay motivated. Lol.
Just played the first 2 chapters.

This game rocks.

The animations are awesome. Much of the design choices are radical and pleasing. Intro was very cool, with the slow motion. The save screen is nice, I like how you put in the 4th pt member with a faceset image to indicate chapter. Very clever. The semi-transparent, multi-colored message boxes. Most of the chipset is awesome, but some parts look kinda meh. The statues in the temple were awesome and the lines in the floor, but most of the house tiles didn't look so hot. Only by comparison to the good looking tiles, nothing looks like crap.

The story and storytelling is excellent. I don't know much about characterization and character development, so I can't really speak towards that(seems ok so far). I like the progression, the flashback was nice. It seems to be going back and forth(I caught a glimpse of Chapter 3 before I shut it off). I didn't get too far into it yet, but so far it's gripping to play. Not boring or uninteresting. Having that little critter is an interesting story telling device.

The mini-map is nice to have; to see my objective so I'm not wasting time looking for where to go. Although I do enjoy taking the time to explore because of the fun little scenes and interactions. Each of those parts seem well thought out, and not put in for the sake of having it. It's detailed, I like that. Nothing really challenging to the mind or reflexes, but it's early on. I can see sticking with ease of playability over challenge for this, although I personally like challenge. Hoping for harder stuff later on.

Not much to say about the ABS gameplay yet, though. Haven't used it much so we'll see how that goes. It functions adequately with good range so I'm sure it'll be fun. I'll have high hopes and expectations for this aspect of the game for obvious reasons :P

As for negatives...there was a few things.

-Those horrid background images for the books in the library. I know there is a color limit but it shouldn't be too hard to get something a little more high quality.
-Some of the sounds were very ear piercing, the library comes to mind although I forget exactly what action the sound was tied to. Changing a page or something?. Also, I think the sound for when you hit a monster, it wasn't as bad but it stood out as kinda high pitched a little.
-The flash you see when hitting a monster is a little too bright and crisp, I find, it doesn't seem to fully mesh with the rest of the graphics which overall seem really gritty. Maybe cause it only pops up for an instant it's playing tricks on my brain.
-That little stream of water next to the balloon shop was really cool, but I felt like it looked worse the longer down it went. Right out of the pipe it looks really cool, but as you go down it looks like some odd string bouncing around. I would suggest creating a drain just above the road and have the water stop there instead of going down for like 15 tiles or whatever.
-The scene with him in the balloon seemed lacking. Maybe it's my screen but it was hard to really see the balloon, I think it got struck by lightning and damaged? but it was hard to tell what happened. My memory of that scene was "flying along in the balloon at night in the rain..flying..lightning strike..flying..lightning strike..flying..it's over". I dunno if it's a problem with the scene or just the way I happened to experience it. Probably the latter. I will say that I have a projector so my screen is like 5 feet wide, so I usually see the small details in the sprites; it didn't help here. That's why my screen is a little on low on contrast, but it's not extremely bad.
-Some spots in the map seemed off, like the elevations didn't match up but honestly I didn't pay much attention or try to pick out errors. I just have that impression from a few spots, maybe it's because of how the cliff tiles are. It's the same width on top as it is on the bottom, as it was in a bird's eye perspective and I'm not used to that...or something. It didn't bother me that much.

So yeah, this game has the attention to detail we all love to see and it's got substance to the story. There's no way this game doesn't end up getting featured. Good job, man. I was actually impressed with this. Not just enjoyed, but impressed ^.^
Thanks for the feed back Link_2112! As for some of the tile sets, I am aware of the quality dip and will work them out as I go. At this point I am just throwing likely drawn chipsets in for completion purposes. Graphics, like most things in life, are an on going thing. As for the elevation, It may look odd but if you look at the maps in the editor they are accurate. I even have a mathematical formula for sizes inside houses and what-not. I digress, as for the sounds, it probably seems that way because of the progress. All of the enemies make different sounds when hit. rats and bats, beginning enemies, squeak. I will look into sound leveling. I designed the game from the ground up for headphones. So there has been some leveling issues in surround sound and speakers. Also coming back to the graphics, I purposely try to redesign all new areas to look unique and very diverse. The balloon scene, I'll look into brightening it up a bit and yes, lightning strikes the balloon. It's symbolizes karma. Because Landon steals the balloon, he is punished for it, per-say. I completely agree with the drain pipe run-off. I am going to add in sewer grates for the run-off to, well, run into. I hope that cleared up any miss conception or questions mentioned before. I really want to stress just how much I appreciate the compliments and the time you took to post some feedback. Thanks again, :P
Played for about an hour so far. Very impressed although I should mention that if you attempt to play Fey from an external HD you get tonnes of lag whenever anything "happens" on screen.

Also the lamp effect if really ugly :< I'd suggest something more like this:

It's just a regular dithering pattern applied to what used to be a gradient of white on black. Put a radial gradient of white on black, then reduce the colours to 2-bit (black and white) with dithering applied and then use white as your transparent colour :D

Edit:

Just found the one I used for that screenshot, feel free to use/edit/copy/whatever you like with it:

Thanks. I'll sub it in and see how it looks. :D
Congrats on the development spotlight, it's how I found this.

It looks interesting so far. I am eager to see what happens next.

There was no music, though. Is that intentional?

Edit: Oh, and by the way, a typo: you often use "it's" (the contraction) when you mean "its" (the possessive).
No there should be music. That's weird. Thanks for the heads up! I'm doing a run through tonight fixing a few things and I'll add that to the list. Thanks again, :)
I downloaded the 2012 version, that may have had something to do with it.
I downloaded it and it seems to work fine. At least for me. That's weird. I'll keep investigating.
Did you not include the music in the 2012 version for whatever reason? That could be it.
