"You might find the festival strange now, Lunita. But the people of Merryday wouldn't be able to live the way they do if not for the blessings of the moon. I think you will understand. Perhaps not now, but one day when it is your duty to protect them as the Oracle."

Crescent Prism is a story-driven RPG that follows the story of Lunita, a young girl from the bustling hamlet of Merryday Village. Each year, the people of Merryday give their thanks to the moon during the Crescent Festival. Though antiquated as Lunita sees it, her mother Astrid is confident that she will one day understand its importance, as expected of the one who would take her place as Oracle.

Little do Lunita and Astrid know that a great disaster would befall them on the eve of the festival, changing their lives forever.

Crescent Prism aims to be a medium-length, 6-10 hour RPG with a colorful cast of characters and numerous monsters to fight. While still early in development, please look forward to the following features!

  • Colorful, custom graphics, sound, and music.

  • A fully custom User Interface thanks to the powerful Luna Engine script set.

  • Unleash powerful Astra abilities in battle, turning the Moon in your favor!

  • Skippable encounters! If you're a high enough level, flick those pesky random encounters away with the push of a button!

  • Light puzzle-solving with a stretchy dog friend.

  • Animated battle backgrounds. WHOA!

Crescent Prism is still quite early in production, but I hope you'll enjoy following the game's development! I'm really hoping to create the best RPG I can possibly make, straight from the heart and soul. Please be on the lookout for updates in the future!

Middle of June Update - Plans going forward!

I have a few updates for all you good folks out there on this lovely internet! Today, I wanted to talk a bit about this project's development and what it will be like going forward.

Up until now in Crescent Prism's development, I have been lucky enough to commit a substantial amount of time to the project, though this is mostly due to being in and out of employment regularly. For the last six months in particular, I had only been working part-time, so I was able to dedicate several days a week to Crescent Prism.

Recently, I was fortunate enough to have had my hours increased at work, and may become full-time soon. This is great for a lot of reasons, but this also means two things:

1. I won't have as much time to work on the game, which means development is going to slow down a bit.

BUT

2. I'll be able to work on the game more comfortably, and will have the ability to continue regularly commissioning music and other assets I need. Which is good because I have been hoping to self-fund any of those extras I need and did not want to turn to any sort of crowdfunding.

So since I have a more stable outlook of what I can do going forward, here are a couple of development aspects I'm trying to put on solid ground:

Timeframe

As of now, Chapter 1 and 2 are finished, and work on Chapter 3 is already underway. My ultimate going for 2018 is to have Chapter 3 and at least half of Chapter 4 finished by the end of the year. I am TENTATIVELY looking at the first half of 2019 for release, but as with all of my projects, "It's done when it's done" and I won't be committing myself to an exact month or date until near the end.

That said, it's really just about building content and making additional assets at this point. The battle system, mechanics, etc are all established. Mostly everything is planned out in some capacity, and it's just a matter of, well, doing it.

Commercialism

This has been on my mind since the project started and though I've gone back and forth on this a few times, it's always been "leaning yes". I've been feeling more and more inclined to make Crescent Prism a commercial game. As to what capacity, such as price point, I have yet to determine. But I figure since I already have Soma Spirits on Steam, there's no reason not to give it the ol' college try. So from this point on, Crescent Prism will be filed under C for Commercial.

--------------

So things are still looking a fair ways off! But I hope you'll all continue to follow Crescent Prism in the coming months.

If Gary Gygax could hear all these bad DnD puns we're making, he'd be rolling in his grave.

Oh, I see.

This looks quite promising, to say the least. And if the music is going to be as good as in Soma Spirits, you'll instantly have my vote in any case. Best of luck on this project!

By the way, is this going to be another commercial game?

I'll tell Ape to do his best! Not that we ever have to worry about that, of course.

I'm not sure at the moment if the game will be commercial or not. Still working some things out before I make a decision there.

Commercial decision is a heavy one. That said, I would have spent money on even Brave Hero Yuusha as it is. The work you do is commercial worthy in my eyes. It's more or less up to you if you want that burden or just want to keep it as a hobby.

Somehow I completely missed this page being created and didn't subscribe. This problem has been corrected.

Wow ,I hope its not too short xD

Well for what it's worth, I estimated that Soma Spirits would be 1-2 hours long and it ended up being 4-6 so...

I'd love to see this game being arround 5 hours long aswell ,since most games I downloaded lately have been like 1 hour long ,and I'm pumped up to follow this games development since it looks interessing af ,but if its gonna be short again ,I'll prob leave it to play when school starts and I have spare time x3
who did the scripting for the battle system? it looks incredible!
All of the UI customization is done through the Luna Engine scripts, battle interface included!
just finished the demo! the moon cycle mechanic is really unique and interested and I really like the way it was implemented. in the final game, do you think there'll be any gift/reward item for loading a demo save? i've seen some games do that, so just asking.
Awesome! I'm glad you enjoyed it! :D

The gift idea sounds neat, but considering how far off the release of the final game is (another year at the bare minimum) I can't say for sure if demo saves will be compatible with the final build. But we'll see!
Played a bit of demo, unfortunately had to go, but from what I've seen already I am confident this is going to be a positive experience.

Everything in the game seems to be custom graphics and I find just the fact that the dev is willing to spend their efforts on this amazing. Also the graphics on their own look really cute, colorful and nice so far. It gives me an Earthbound-y vibe.

The plot started of somewhat cliched in my opinion, with a flashforward to the future plot point and a glimpse of Big Bad, then dream-like vision and protagonist waking up at their home in bed, starting off their daily routine.

What I found really cool was the moment when I was asked to tell my birthday and assigned a zodiac sign based on the date. I must confess to being a tad bit interested in astrology, so I'm really looking forward to how this will play out further in the game. My guess is that it will somehow affect my magic abilities, like perhaps maybe I will be proficient with fire element (my character is Aries).

Another thing I found amazing was how the game started off with action and a very heated moment, but incorporated teaching player about basic mechanics like enemy encounters, interacting with environment (my guess is that there are going to be puzzles?) and weaknesses. I also found masking basic tutorial as main protagonist doing her chores a nice touch and a creative solution.

It looks like the developer has put thought and effort in this game, so I'm looking forward to playing the rest of the demo.
