Youre Impressions of New 2k3 [RM2K3]

Basically a downgrade over VX Ace in more or less every regard, the eventing not-withstanding but that's to scaffold the absence of scripting, and since I evented a whole ABS game in VX Ace regardless, I don't see the need to ever purchase it.

I hope this was the question the thread was asking. :o

It just feels like a pretty cheap ploy to milk fellas for more dough and hey if it worked good for them, don't expect me to respect such a ham-handed move, though.

@Magi if intelligence looked anything even close to how that does i'd probably be a lot more respected as a dev

but my game is uuuugly :(

ah well! im getting better

This looks really good apart from the writing on the poster/banner. It just looks kinda half-assed given how good the rest of the screenshot is.

I agreed that this was true, so I went and did a thing.

Spykker font is great.
Also updated windowskin to be more in line with the obelisks, still some parts of it aren't done, such as arrows and a new loady graphic, but those won't be difficult.

The blending irritates me some... maybe a slight stroke around the inside of the border to make it less bleed-like.

Pfffft. I see what you did there. Making lichen seem like plural lich.
Huehue.

I just hate the way Liches sounds phonetically, so I just pulled a Blizzard and made a different interpretation on that. Though such behavior isn't anything new, Dragons plural was Dragonar since way back, Monkeet too-- and there's other examples I forget.

Now back to my wonderful seclusion. Heh Heh.

Oh yeah, got some cool work done.
-Savepoints are no longer shady robed cult monkeys, they are now obelisks. Because Menagerie did it and hell if I'm spriting a new bunch of crap to replace what already exists and is solid. Obelisks are cool!
-Autosaving is in, and often occurs one line of dialect before a boss fight (among other places), so no more re-reading for the 30th time when fighting Esperia. Now it's right back into the action!

I never really understood why games put random words in colored text. No other medium does that.

It made sense in FF2 when you could memorize any colored word and use it as a password when talking to other NPCs. It did not make sense when Nintendo started doing it to every noun and also some words that aren't even nouns.
It's good for pointing out key things, like cities or names the player needs to remember. I'll often use it to highlight keybinds, or some objective, but that's about it.

Yes, I'm supposed to not be here, got some cool stuff done though so I'll show you that, also yeah I'll update the text on the Splode poster to better blend with the map.

Probably shamefully Oddworldian but atleast I am still using all original assets, either by my composer or me.

Couple other things, autosaving now means you dont have to read dialogue again once you die to a boss the first time, also mid-fight checkpoints can be and are already a thing.

Also implemented skipping straight to the first cutscene if no save files are present.

Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

Pissing off until June (actually disconnecting my net) so I can buckle down and get work done.

Here's an awesome track my composer did.

Some old maps, new lights.

With that, I'm off until June to work solidly on this thing.

That's cool Pizza! Makes me think of Castle of the Four Winds for some reason, or one of those old adventure roguelikes.

Seems I haven't shown these yet. :0

Sorry, I'm a bit sweaty in this photo. Feels like I just came out of an oven.

Well played.

Well, here's me!

Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

Agreed that something does look odd on Ianna, it does look like the eyes are a bit far up the head, in general eyes are just a smidgen above halfway up the head.

If you're going for an anime style (and you are) there's a really handy tutorial I use.

Meself? Well, I'm working on P:A now, decided I'm going to do most of the maps in one burst (and im in the midst of that now) then do events as such, boss arenas will be exempt from this rule, since more than ever maps tiling is important, some bosses who are planned out mechanically can, yeah-- have their arena's construct, but for the most part I'll leave that until the time.

I'm also going to begin on a better death system, basically save points will become less common, usually one before each boss or large event- and one at the beginning of a stage, otherwise I'll be simply using an instant respawn that will reset the map and in some cases flip a switch, that will skip the waiting parts of the bosses intro. One complaint I've gotten about both Perseverance and the P:A demo is that having to go through the bosses dialogue and actions again is exhaustive. Watching an episode of Extra Credits recently made me aware of how this could be seen as punishing rather than challenging difficulty.

In the map division, here's one I'm working on now.

If you look, you can see how I have the 32x32 grid lines present to accommodate for passability. For a hand drawn map, it does look fairly square, but I'm okay with that because it is a secret basement hideout, evidently-- I haven't added the clutter yet. Here's how a map can look when finished. (and in game.)
