Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

For balancing, I use very formulaic round numbers, that said, if you want to make a traditional RPG where random encounters give XP, then my methods will be useless, since mine are all progression based, as in: Only plot-progressing bosses give you experience.

Gonna really go nuts with dev in May. Right now though I'm getting things organized and marking my calendar with different dates of importance. Tomorrow I've gotta ring the TAFE at southbank (which is like a college) and reinstate my midyear admission into the desired undergraduate course, ask questions in relation to when it begins, part time and full time semantics, student rented units-- if full time because I'm not gonna travel 2 hours each day if I can avoid it.

Based on those answers, I will decide on if I enter the IGMC, and regardless I also want to start saving for a decent *work* laptop, since I can't go hauling my monolith around everywhere.

So for what I'm working on? Heh, life. :/

But it's all in the interest of making bigger, better game.

Wow shit I really gotta up my game.

Gonna be doing some hectic work in May. Don't have much to show currently, but my composer just finished a really solid battle track.

Album Art by Zeirt, one of the newest additions to the CCC. The song of course, is by Jake "MoneyMenace" Gamelin.

Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

Began working on Intelligence a fair bit for a change.

Finally working on closing the curtains, and as such things are really gonna begin ramping up. The plot is 'bout to go apeshit goddamn bananas up in here.

I know what the issue is, and it's evidently far more severe in it's effects on Windows 8 than it is on Windows 7.

To better cater to lower-end systems, picture cutscenes were discarded in favor of ogv's that would play default to the engine's behaviour, however-- this is Enterbrain, so of course in completely random scenarios, playing the videos will just crash the program, however, this error is assumed to be rare, just as well.

If you cannot boot it up with any hope of success, I'll look into an ogv free version, though that will take some time.

I only know that that error doesn't occur on Windows 7, and I have had reports of people with Windows 8 being able to play it.

What specs does your Windows 8 have? I mean I have a 250 dollar laptop that is incalculably shitty and it can run on that, though barely.

The intro is an ogv and plays fine on all systems I've seen it play on, sadly this sounds like something I can't do a whole lot about. Is it when you first boot up the game or when you finish the splash cinematic?

I think flavor text is awesome, but you gotta show the world as well!

I adapted show don't tell particularly so in P:A. In the first map you know there's some sorta big brother thing going on, that there's a religion based around some huge dude monarch guy, and that the fella who just saved you is wanted by the law.

You're also pretty clearly in a Dystopia.

Not a word needs to be spoken to get those things across, the writing is on the walls, and quite literally!

Also, I was having an issue with OriginalWij's resize and scale script which made the resolution 632x448 for some reason. And I recently found out why.

The resolution you enter resizes the window, not the screen. Setting it to 646x502 make it right.

Before:

Notice how the text is squashed, the mouth is seperated and everything looks slightly wretched?

Well after fixxo:

Yeeee! Text is perfect, facesets aren't skewered and the whole image is more crisp, this also negates the obnoxious flickering when dealing with scrolling across the screen.

Anyway, if you have a shelf system, it should be interactable, such as asking if you want to pick up the item, and then going to cashier to buy.
Anyone played Dungeons of Dredmor?

So much yes for that system!

Also you could steal, (via certain teleport spells and other stuff) at the expense of angering Brax, which unless you were overpowering a floor was a good deterrent.

If you can't interact with it, it's fluff. So do the extra work and make it something to interact with, maybe?
That's what I do, I'm a big fan of the flavor text.

Also here's not a bookcase read, but a wine cabinet read.

BUT IT TURNS OUT THAT THE COUCH WAS WHAT THE READ.

Though you can talk to just about every wine cabinet in there.

Counterpoint: I can't recall a single thing that I've ever read from a bookcase in an rpg.
If I just made an image on screen like this.
I'm sure you'd remember.

If only because the jokes on it were so disgraceful.

Let's Talk about Map Design

This is an awesome idea. For one who has done next to no employed work his whole life information like this usually completely evades me.

Basic concepts can enter my brain but it's a whole other matter of implementing the tricksy ways of shopkeepers.

I often feel my maps are incredibly lacking in my games, especially considering one of the creative wellsprings that lead me towards game design was architecture and fantastical model making. When I was young I'd constantly make worlds out of cardboard and stuff.

I have next to no experience in half of the places I designate mapping, I have no idea how a Nuclear silo is structured, or how police headquarters are layed out... and it never seems to be a thing I even contemplate researching, my instinct is to go at it blindly.

This stated, I did enjoy mapping a lot more when I was drawing it myself. What I like is when I make a map that has atmosphere. Which is why this is probably one of the favorites of mine.

There are certainly bugs with it, such as the bridge leading into the stairs unconditionally.

Also Apoc's simplistic 'Biz-catered' tiles don't melt steel beams I mean don't exactly go with Celianna, Lunarea or Ayene's hyper defined foresty tiles.

He's flippin' you the bird.

I can't take credit, though. That was Apoc's awesome idea, he also did the majority of tiles.
