author=bulmabriefs144That's nice of you to say, while I'm certainly a nobody to society, I do have some friends I commonly talk to, I'm also really quiet in Public, sometimes to such a degree I miss my bus stop because I don't have the guts to ask the driver or anything.
Also, I generally have the sense to know that people's personality is not necessarily a reflection of their work. I tend to be extremely deadpan in public, and have trouble speaking up. But my social scenes are at least moderately well written. I'd probably still play menagerie. Haven't gotten around to playing it in the first place, but this won't affect my decision.
When I'm at an eating place I'm always ready to move aside for the needs of others, since I'm not usually in any sort of hurry and I'm pretty carefree and laidback, again, almost to an extent that endangers me.
On the internet I act very differently, and it's probably childish a lot of the time because the internet is an escape from reality for me.
author=bulmabriefs144While I agree, I didn't want to blame my behavior on a bad day and pet peeve, some may know me and Indra have a bit of a rocky history, so even though I don't want to bring that up on the surface, there's always a piece of me that wants to lash out, even though I probably respect her skills more now than I did before our feud.
Seriously. We have a culture where people are afraid to ever show aspects of themselves, lest our business suffer. Nah man, everyone has pet peeves, bad days, and other stuff going on.
Point is, I wanted to give a legitimate reason rather than blaming something petty. I find that being ready to admit you were wrong is always a good way to make an impression, it's hard to do certainly. But for fellas like me who suffer from severe social anxiety, it's a way to resolve things that is legitimate.
Had this been only a year ago, I'd have probably stormed out in a big angry huff like Ratty witnessed on RRR, but I try not to be like that anymore because I hate brats, and wouldn't want to be seen as one.
Sorry Lib! Guess I brought us some classic...

Even though I'm 27 and most of us are probably adults but shhhh! :0
I'll withdraw from this discusson now, feel free to PM me if you have anymore to talk about on the whole ordeal.

Yay for passive aggression. I never claimed to be a pro at anything. You're the one who asserted that they knew how all this works.I was just butthurt because you made an ass out of me. :P
But yes, feedback, let's see.

@Anorak: The Atmosphere here is really cool, the ocular lighting and all adds well to the scene. Much as i want to I can't see anything wrong with it.

@JosephSeraph: The CCC wants you!
To mak tilesets.
Because by god do you have us circled. But yeah, point is, you have a really cool tileset there, though maybe a bit more clutter in the actual map?
Also the way the mesh floor tiles appear more elevated than the not-mesh floortiles is a bit weird, but I'm mostly being pedantic because there's so little wrong with your screenshot.
So not cool, you all being so much more talented mapwise than me. >:[
Well, I'll continue to try and get better!
But right now, I've got next to nothing to show, sorry. :/

author=unityThat's a fair point, I try to be entertaining but I go too far a lot of the time. I'll rely less on that whole shtick if you guys don't approve of it, and clearly, that's the case.
Keep in mind that the attitude you're putting on display may be costing your games potential players. When I first saw your screenshots on here, I thought "Wow, how interesting and different. Maybe I should check out a game of theirs?" Then I saw your attitude and went "Nope, if their games are anything like their attitude, then I want no part of that."
It's a thing brought about by nervousness, not knowing where I stand. For what it's worth, I'd have to say you guys have been way more awesome than any of the other rpgmaker sites I visit, even VX.net which I more or less governed until it died.
I like that you won't let me get away with being a douche like I was just recently, if it's any surprise I'm a gigantic social failure and due to condemning social situations to personal nonexistence (I dwell in my room 90% of a given day), I'm not very well trained or adept socially, which can lead to me being an outright idiot.
I'm trying to improve, though! And will keep trying.
Right, sorry to propel this thread off course, here's something I've begun working on recently.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTKpdtuBD0Y
That video is old, yes. I'm thinking of working some on the game again since it was a pretty cool idea and I really enjoyed working on it.
At least until I begin on a new IP for this thing.
author=LibertyI need to learn to read shit before I go on spiels.
@Bizarre: Your maps are badly made for the kind of restaurant that the original map was made for. Even your so-called tavern is pretty bad - the layout is terrible, actually. A place like that would go out of business because wait staff would be dropping shit all over from having to wind their way to the tables. :/
You say the initial map is wrong then go on to discuss a whole other different kind of thing. You were talking about melons when everyone else was talking about mangoes. Seriously. Take-away restaurants are a very different beast to proper sit-in restaurants. If Indrah had made a Take-away restaurant then you would have the right of it, but as it was, the restaurant she made was the proper sit-in type.
I apologize Indra, and Lib for being a misinterpreting wise-ass.

author=unityFITE ME!
I'm not seeing anything remotely credible in the maps you provided. Living proof that "going to almost thirty different McDonalds" does not confer brilliant mapping skills.
I also didn't say I was brilliant, I was just less bad than the bad, and wanted to gloat about that because I clearly have nothing more redeemable to gloat about.
author=LibertyCan I return fire by asking you to read my whole post? I pointed out on several occasions that my maps were definitely flawed, but just that theirs were way more flawed!
Learn some proper restaurant design before being acting like you know best about what they are and how to map them. :/
It's not that my maps are good, it's just that there's are less good.
author=LockeZI'm not even sure if I was serious with it or not. But it was funny for me to read at least!
No but seriously I'm not even part of this but it's really interesting and helpful for the next time I make a restaraunt. Next: someone analyze an "item shop" to this degree! I hardly ever see shops in video games that bear any resemblance to real stores.
Also that I was compared to Gordon Ramsey made it worth it.
@Unity: Okay even if my maps are basically Hitler's unappetizing produce it still shows that even with yours they look nothing like the examples I was chastising. From now on since you're clearly the Kitchen pro I'll let you do the emphatic outbursts on Kitchens #101 because you've got me circled.
You need a lesson in humility. Seriously, this whole "I'm better and more popular than everyone" shtick is getting pretty childish and annoying.Lol that shtick is more or less facetious, it's my way of showing how annoying people with ego's can be. Sorry if it came across as legitimate, not meaning to really get on nerves here.
I figured what with this place being a lot tougher it'd be able to handle it pretty well, despite how thickly I layed it on. Sorry if I offended anyone, it wasn't my intent.
I'm obviously not popular I mean come on all of you probably have way more views on one of your games than I do all of mine.
In reality I'm incredibly shy, I lay on this silly facade to appear confident but it's not real. Just ask anyone in my company and they'll tell you I'm a mushy carcass underneath.
Forgivable is your chagrin and misconception, though. If you want more information feel free to PM me about it.
author=bulmabriefs144This is all I was actually trying to say.
This is true. However, the picture here defeats the purpose.
Notice how the L-shape constricts traffic? At best, this should be T-shaped, have an added kitchen east of the bar, and an added dining area. Food goes out, orders go in, and it takes roughly the same amount of time to deliver orders regardless of seating. With an L-shape, the customer in the left corner gets little attention because the waiter has to walk both ways for the order.
Picture one looks okay for expedition, though I have to ask what the barred up area is. Is there a second kitchen? Or is it like an employee breakroom?
Apologies if I came off as a supremacist dickhead, especially when the vast majority of you are better mappers than me. I was more or less reviewing the map in an emphatic drill sergeant manner because that's fun to do, I didn't mean to upset anyone.
Hey, guess I was wrong, turns out Drama does totally exist here!
author=PuddorNonsense! You have over three times the makerscore I do. D:
edit: the last page. whoops i page sniped. i don't have anything to show you guys i am a failure

It's possible Linkplayer is just a huge troll.
Also...
I've been to 15 different coffee shops, 12 breakfast bars and at least 28 different Macdonald's venues in my life. None of them have gotten close to looking as retarded as either of these in their general layout.
The second one is noticeably impractical-- if not outright bad, though. What the hell kind of place has an unsquare dining venue, every coffee club, every macca's I've been to has had a square area where you eat at tables.
What the hell is with having the juice/tea bar and kitchen separate? Secondly what kind of idiot would rely on a kitchen like that, just SMH here. Kitchen's are busy, cluttered, and serviceable. Not host to one crate of food and a couple cooking devices.
That said the kitchen in the left one is just as unforgivable for different reasons.
I see I will have to show you mongoloids how it's done myself!
Now, this definitely has some issues, I ain't ever seen a Burger Plaza that big, but it gets a modern day aesthetic for chain restaurants across very well.
Like if you look you know, this place serves food. I look at the images of the inn and see what could be more or less any bizarre household that houses food. May not particularly sell or distribute it.
The whole point of an eating place is to be at first glance, attractive and inviting, the places above look fairly dull and unmaintained, which is like making a slaughterhouse boast a keen sense of decor.
Here's a less modern example.
The very first thing you feel when you enter this place is cozyness, and for an Inn or Tavern or even a bar, this is ideal, you want to invite your customers, because ultimately it's your hope to get some payment out of them. Granted, this is no stellar work of art, but it effectively gets across what I mean, notice how the bar is separated from the dining area? This is common in most restaurants and taverns of today, as well. The kitchen however, stays intact, not seperated between the two, though that can happen.
Lastly, here's a more compact modern example of a food place.
This isn't even a very good map, but you go in and you can tell its a place to buy food.
So, there's your lesson in Tavern/Eat-out Store design #101, I'm not even a good mapper and I feel rude patronizing both Indra and the comparison about this, but it's legitimately making me question if either of you have gone out to eat in your lives, because if you have-- my god you don't show it.

author=Sparker117That's the spirit!
Thank you so much LockeZ, that helps a lot. I not a huge fan of the genre either, but until I can afford to purchase one of the RPG maker engines, I thought that this would be a good way to practice. Thank you though.
See you obviously want to make games, because even without tools that do a lot of the work for you you're managing to make do!
Biz did not always use RPGmaker, ohoho no! First, when I had no idea how useful the internet was, I would write game manuals (like DND style) in Microsoft Word, then I used the Neverwinter Nights toolset, which doesn't hold your hand nearly as much as RPGmaker does.
We all start somewhere, and you have the knowledge it exists. I didn't, I just went with what I could get my hands on.

author=bulmabriefs144Certainly!
Hey Monkey, can you answer two questions?
author=bulmabriefs144It's neither. I just hadn't done a cinematic picture cutscene in ages and decided to do one. There will not be another Menagerie, it will be patched mid-year possibly with a large content update. But no sequel would really work and I don't really believe in making sequels anyway.
Is this a sequel to Menagerie, or part of the original game?
author=bulmabriefs144Oh my, deary oh dear this does not use a movie making program or anything very complicated at all! In fact, it's very likely you already have the power at your finger tips and don't know it!
I need help with making videos. I know how to do it on Movie Maker, but I dunno how to get avi files and have no money to spend. And it has to be small scale because I need them for the unlockable awards.
The picture commands in RPGmakerVX and VXAce (possibly others too, I haven't dabbled into XP or the 2kw/e's much) are extremely powerful, though sorely underused. I'm seen as an exceptional manipulator of these commands, but it's not all that hard!
My games more or less stand out a lot among others purely for the fact I have full blown 2D cutscenes, now I have seen other projects do it, but my god they are rare.
As for turning them into avis, well you've got multiple options, bandicam is nearly entirely free unless you need more than 10 minutes of footage or to have no watermarks. It can export to both AVI and MP4.
For my recording I used fraps and compressed it to a wmv with Vegas to make it a far more manageable size. But that'll be a lot more expensive unless you do what anyone sane does and bootleg Vegas.
Here's a video I did record with Bandicam.

author=AlichainsIt looks quite befuddling!
Ooooh....Those look Purty!
My attempt at coming up with a good map for Befuddle Quest.
I'm sorry! I can help out though.
Firstly, the way the clean grey bricks for the pits are totally flies in the face of the surrounding more messy khaki brown tiles, I don't think carpets quite work like that, and also the height-mapping is very wonky.
That said, I like the look of that puzzle.
Also since you fellas were so quick with responding allow me to reward you with a Work in progress showing off that cutscene I teased you about earlier.
Definitely some things to fix and update, will it be in the big game? Probably not. I just wanted to do a Planetary cutscene alongside Even in Death, and I'm thoroughly enjoying being able to do that.
Screenshot Survival 20XX
Little bit of a tease for an upcoming picture cutscene I should have ready by 4/13.
For that reason, it'll be synced to Even in Death.

For that reason, it'll be synced to Even in Death.

Lrn2quote
That said, it's all I worked on for said day.
You can see that here.
As for what I'm working on, well I'm doing a few awesome changes to Menagerie: Remastered.
State Rebate:
There is certainly one thing I've noticed when other people have played this game, and that is that states are very hard to cipher sometimes, and some are way too powerful to be used by players, and are cheap feeling when used by bosses, so states are undergoing a large, but save friendly revamp!
- Each state now has a short name, followed with a brief explanation of what it does (in brackets).
- Several states which force loss of control have been removed, such as villain, berserk and confusion, stun remains as it's very handy against some bosses, such as the Dislocated Legends. The reason for this is that loss of control isn't fun, and there are less artificial ways to make bosses challenging.
- New awesome states are being added, such as Armor Break, Magic Break, and Elemental damage over time effects.
- The abilities Purify and Optimism are being rolled into Purify, the same goes for Erasure and Pessimism.
- Fatty will no longer gain a health benefit when morphing into bear form, in exchange he cannot be stunned or lose control in any form sans exceptions such as Temptress' Bite.
- Elemental attacks will now inflict a corresponding damage over time effect. It's only 1% bu on some bosses this is priceless.
Here's the second huge change.
Zardari's Final straw, how long does this shit even have to be also macguffins plzno
I got some very legitimate advice about the final battle with Zardari, so I'm going to be correcting a lot that I went wrong with.
- Zardari will still have 12 Million HP.
- He will now cast bigger spells based on the HP that remains. 80% Wide Slash, 60% Galactic Cleave, 40% Titan Strike, 20% The Cyan Reaches.
- The Demigods will no longer interfere, it's all up to the player now.
- Alike all bosses, Zardari isn't immune to elemental damage over time effects.
- A new music track will play throughout the entire fight, rather than having it switch up.
- Zardari will still use power surge, but dependant on the health that remains rather than by turn. he'll reach 4 stacks by 10%, and each 20% prior he'll apply a single stack. (90%, 70% 50%, and so on.)
- Zardari has lots of nasty new tricks to keep you on your toes. And keep the fight interesting.
- Throughout the fight, the characters and Zardari will interact, by 40% health Zardari starts showing he's impressed.
- By 5%, Zardari more or less asks you to end it.
- Some mechanics are still being worked out.
Other Changes
- Fatty's Pessimism ability will be replaced with an ability that inflicts curse on an opponent.
- Fatty's Optimism will be replaced with an ability that restores 25% EP to the party at the cost of some of his health.
- Abilities will now clarify their modifier and their type. (Absolute, Physical, or Magical)
- Turtle is now called Defense
- Shield is now called Spirit
- Reflex changed to Agility.
- All instances of MP will be changed to EP.
- The Insanity debuff from using gatekeeper will now be dispelled on death and after battle.
- Several of Fatty's abilities can bow be used in both forms.
YuuMonMuSurprisingly, it only took a day from start to finish...
That's pretty amazing. That must had took you some time.
That said, it's all I worked on for said day.
YuuMonMuThanks! I actually did a color update since i didn't like the way the runes were slightly green and the hair clashed.
I love the glow of the wings and the tattoos that runs down her legs. Excellent job.
You can see that here.
