2020 Misao Official Results!
Congrats everyone! I'm glad to see this composition of winners and the kentona award was collected by different game than GOTY! I think the selection of winners represents 2020 great too!!! I'm glad Shooty and Catfish got something and I'm waiting for the full release of Suma Union, because that game's hype. The rest of games deserves they spotlight as well. They look great and from what I heard they play great too.
Also, super congrats to unity, I was afraid WaUTaH wouldn't win.

2021 Misaos - Thoughts, Ideas, Plans
Editing beckend would be ideal. I don't know about using an off-site tool. That might end up being chaotic and I believe it's extra work.
I have a slightly cheesy solution to the lack of nominations problem. I don't think people should be that afraid to nominate games they haven't played for most categories. You usually can get glimpse of visuals and audio without playing. We might use the nomination thread to plead other members to also nominate games some of us already nominated. I think that it's always better to have more nominations than wasted votes. And you don't need to be super responsible with them, there's still the voting round and plenty of time to play the games meanwhile.
The other thing I would do is to regroup individual misaos in several categories (visually). Every group could have a foreword explaining how to nominate in it (basically making it clear that if you nominating Theia in all categories isn't the right call and that you can play other games too, which fit remaining categories better).
1)Main categories (GOTY, Visuals, Gameplay, etc.)
2)Specific categories (demo, event game, dark souls)
3)Off-beat categories (hedgehog, kentona, punniest, trippiest, game name)
I believe an end of year review drive will help a lot too. I don't think summer review drives help a lot. Actually, I don't think all year round drives help a lot, but a very visible november/december campaign should. Like even with 50 active users, there should be different numbers of nominations in some categories.

You're right Mirak. I guess my favourite solution would be to make misaos semi-curated. And by curation I mean adding extra items in underrepresented categories and for example removing major goty players from the kentona's award.
And you're absolutely right about the category spotlighting one of the most important features of this community. I think one of the problems might be that people who participate in events don't participate in nominating as much. If there's a way for people to make it attractive to nominate a game right after an event ends, let's spotlight it. The problem isn't that people don't play enough event games, playing one and liking it is enough to nominate it!
So, I think a roundup of event games can happen within the overall misao roundup, but I think that putting more emphasis on nominating right after an event ends and maybe making a reviewing event in roughly november/december focused on 2021 games and misao nominations would help too.

Screenshot Survival 20XX
That's very nice, Esby. There's a rumour that certain map perverts only open your screenshots in a private window.

LBR could remind people to vote every time an event ends. Just jump there in the comment section post a gif of Steamed Hams and urge them to nominate.
Also, regarding the number of votes. This is good. I think some of the older years had higher number of votes, but that was accompanied by a crazy amount of categories.

What's the population of people who are into rpg maker?
I would say that with local and smaller communities the RM population is about twice as big than his estimates. That isn't a huge number, but it's important to note how fragmented it is in comparison with some newer gammak solutions.

A note that any game that does not fit a specific category (for example, a game that is not a demo in a demo-only category) will be removed during the end of Misao round-up! So keep your votes relevant!
I'm intrigued, but I'm also not sure if I want to expand my steam library any further.
2021 Gaming Diary
I can confirm that WaUTaH is addicting.
I've been playing some Crusader Kings 2 and I need to stop because you can easily sink weeks in that game. I started as an Estonian chief and created several kingdom, all ruled by my bloodline, before becoming a republic. Ofc these kingdoms started fighting each other and having multiple internal struggles instead of focusing on outwards expansion. I even had to recapture weak Suomi. Lithuania ate a third of promising and stable Novgorod because a strong high chief from the latter kingdom inherited the former. Meanwhile Ruthenia got half of its territory eaten by its neighbors. I myself expanded to Sweden to further expand my religion and bloodline and to prevent filthy Norse warmongers from attacking my lands. I think it worked out quite well, especially with Denmark being under a Polish dynasty now. Aztecs and Mongols invaded extremely early and Catholicism is struggling with christian kingdoms being full of heretics. Meanwhile Sunni Muslims are really strong and expanding both west and east.
This is a playthrough I started once or twice before, but only now I'm enjoying it and I had several fairly successful conquerors too and I managed to reform Suomenko faith super early on, while exploring some mechanics I haven't used before. Now, I need to take a break and work on other things before sinking more hours in and expanding my trading network. Hopefully, I'll take this game into Europa Universalis 4 and maybe even Victoria 2 one day.

If I play indie games later in the year I return to my usual format of listing them with a short summary.
