Not a Chance of a Ghost!

Being the clever lady I am, I brought my laptop with me when I went away for all of last week so I could work on this.

Being the lazy lady I am, I decided that time would be better spent playing Minecraft. Oops.. I'll just cram the remaining storyline in now and run. XD

Not a Chance of a Ghost!

Thanks Galv! I will at the very least be able to release what I have now, which isss.. about 10 minutes of gameplay. Maybe.

I kinda stole the idea from Amnesia, as there's a lot of non-violent cupboard-hiding in that game!

Not a Chance of a Ghost!

Hope you enjoy what little gameplay is in the demo, Spirit!

As a small update, I have implemented the grading system. It could do with some tweaking, but it currently works out that if you get caught more than two times and spend forever on the Stage, you'll get a D; if you're quick but grab all the Ghosties and goodies, you'll bag a C or a B depending on if you're caught; if you run through without grabbing anything, you'll probably get an A.

You can also get 'Magical Running Shoes' which can be found under rare circumstances (and they're finite) or you can buy them at the end-of-game (possibly gonna be a mid-game too) shop. They make you run as fast as if you were dashing and last for one Stage before they magically fall off. They're a good way to ensure you can collect all the Ghosties but still get a good grade.

I'm also making an indoor level where you can hide in cupboards. :3

As for that spoiler:

The secret Stage is done and has adequate goodies, and will lead onto another Stage full of niceness!

I just hope I can get this done before the 31st, especially as I'll be away from my laptop next week.

The Alchemist's Brother

Ohh, yes I forgot about children and their dependencies and whatnot. XD Well good luck with that! I hope that means you'll still have time for the game!

The Alchemist's Brother

Tales of Graces is just a videogame with a large anime influence. It's also pretty cool, much like FMA!

Learning music sounds like a good plan - I much prefer games with original music over original graphics. RTP/edits are pretty nice, but the RTP music isn't quite so good as it used to be in previous makers. Jobs can wait. :P

Maybe you should learn to do some spriting! This is a really good tutorial for spriting which I found incredibly helpful when I started out. It's not so tricky, it's just time consuming.

The Alchemist's Brother

*looks at main logo* ... *looks at summary* Hm!

Actually, it's starting to remind me of Tales of Graces with the two brothers (one with red hair one with blue) who are separated as kids! XD But again, the similarities aren't strong. Separation of family is quite a common storyline these days, but damn is it good!

But I'm really lovin' the looks of this game. Your mapping is improving with every screenshot you send out. Keep up the good work!

Not a Chance of a Ghost!

There'll only be one playable character really (Ted). Once/if you find one of the kids, I might make a minigame especially for him/her, but I dunno how much of this game I can actually do at the minute considering I have.. *looks at calendar* half a month! Oh hell!

And don't worry about the competing. Someone's gonna swoop in at the end with a beautiful entry and trump us all. XD And I already have Ace, so if I win (highly doubtful) it'd go to the second place winner and so on.

(oh and thanks for the title, friendly-friendship-friend. :P)

Not a Chance of a Ghost!

Well you did eventually learn what to do, so you could go back to the stage and easily get an A later on! But there are people who would just rather shrug it off and go "meh, well I got it eventually, time to do the next puzzle!" and just charge on ahead with a straight row of D's, and there are people who are upset with their D's and want to improve them, so they replay the level until they have A's!

This'll be doubly rewarding, because there may be something you missed on a stage which could give you a cool item/lotsa Ghosties or even send you to another, hidden Stage.

Slight spoiler:
(I dunno if you saw on the 3rd Stage but there's a part where the second monster is spinning around which is barricaded off. This'll be a hidden extra Stage later on!)

Not a Chance of a Ghost!

I can't live with myself until I get the SS grade.. maybe I'll make them really super difficult to get!

Not a Chance of a Ghost!

Yes indeed! But other than time taken and Ghosties collected/total, I dunno what else to put. Maybe a "grade" depending on how much time you took and how many times you were caught? Maybe your grade would apply a multiplier to how many Ghosties you collected per level.

Thanks for testing it out, and for the feedback! Your name shall also be listed in the credits ^_^
