The official English 2k3 version is out!
author=Mirak
I'm still not keen on how making a title screen without a title screen option would work.
Should we use picture events for that?
Yes, for example... like many did already with the inofficial RM2k3. (You can check out other games.)

The default is no longer fullscreen because this was one of the most annoying things of the old RMs. It's great that RMXP changed this to default windowed.
And please don't just auto-switch to fullscreen without asking the player... this is not a good user experience! You are supposed to use this feature in an options menu. It's up to the player whether they want to player in fullscreen or not.
(Also, in the splash screen it shows that F4 will go to fullscreen.)
EDIT: However, I just realized one flaw in the design: F4 and Alt+Enter don't save the change in the registry, that's intentional (the user should go to the options menu and intentionally click Save while "Use as default" is checked), but since this also applies to the event command "Switch Fullscreen", it can't be used in an options menu permanently...

The default setting is windowed x2, with GDI fullscreen (if the user switches to fullscreen) with no options checked. This works best for most newer computers.
It's like with every videogame: You have video options the player can modify as it fits best to their preferences and their computer. It's not your call as a creator to dictate the settings the user has to use...
Also, it doesn't matter if a user has an RPG Maker installed. If the user downloaded your game and the game of somebody else (both made with RM2k3), the settings will be the same for the two games. That's intentional because it doesn't make sense that a user has to configure his preferred fullscreen display options over and over again for every game they download.

That's because the update changes the names of all the RTP files. You now have to go back and import every one of them manually to get your projects to work again. #FuckSteamRPGMaker
...or just copy them all at once in Windows Explorer and later use a tool like "RMTool" to remove the unused ones...

@Mirak: You don't. This is a player setting, not a creator setting. What the player configures for one of their RM2k3 games is used for all of them (if "use as default" is checked, which it normally is).

Owww that sucks! I absolutely hate taking damage on my hands, since they're my most appreciated body part followed by my eyes. Hopefully it's only a superficial/minor bruise and not something serious.
Rpg maker 2003 on steam got an update today, it's on version 1.11 now and as usual all of my projects got broken because of things they changed. Like i understand most of these are beneficial changes but still i hate converting my games to newer versions because that means scouting for bugs, missing files and errors.
Hm, what got broken? There should be nothing breaking really, the only things which have a non-backwards-compatible effect on the game are:
- The window transparency (now under "System" and not "Battle Screen") also affects the title screen and is also respected for battle layout A, but then, only on the map.
- The "item obtained" and "gold obtained" messages were slightly changed so that they put spaces between their parts correctly.
- The "Enemy Attack" sound now actually has a use (it was not played before, which was a bug).
So the only things which may happen to a game are that the "item obtained" message has one space too much, the enemies make a sound during attacking because there was a sound configured or that windows are half-translucent now which previously were not... but it shouldn't really break anything.
Can you explain what happened in your case?
EDIT: Or are you talking about patches or other inofficial modifications? They will be gone when you upgrade the engine, yes, but RM2k3 won't force the engine upgrade on you... you can just click "No" (possibly in combination with "Don't ask again").

We just released an update! It makes the battle texts much more usable, finally.

For those users who already got an update in the last 3 hours - sorry, we had an issue in our Steam update which caused all projects opened with this version to be broken. But nothing is lost, the second update we launched minutes ago will automatically repair these projects. The problem was just that accidentally the 2k3 engine was placed there instead of the 2k one.

[RM2K3] What is a Skill Subset?
Let me give you a simple example:
* Go to Battle Commands and create two new commands of type "Skill Subset", name them "Dark Magic" and "Healing" or something.
* Go to Skills. You'll now see the entries "Dark Magic" and "Healing" in the dropdown list for the "type" of a skill. Change the type of some skills from "Normal" to one of the new ones.
* Assign the commands to a hero and do a battle test.
* You'll see that when you select "Skills", you'll see all skills, and when you select "Dark Magic" or "Healing", you'll only see those skills for which you set the corresponding "type" in the Skills tab of the database.
