Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

Working on an encounter based system for my project instead of the ol' classic encounter system. *Lazy*, so finding a sprite that should be perfect for all monster sprites that manifests into a beast upon being touched by the player.

What music gets you going/pumped up?

The first 20 sounds of that song sound very similar to this song I listen to, and some parts of the song also sound alike too. I must listen to it least once a day.

RPG maker 2k3 consistently failing

Please don't post links to illegal software, thanks.

Oh, yeah. My apologies.

author=huggawugga2
Any other suggestions, or am I just out of options? :c When I try to make a project in RPG 2k, it says "project making failure" as well, if that's related. I reinstalled it too...

Hmm, when you make a project in Rm2k, where are you creating it? Try creating it in my documents, then Cut / Pasting it in a folder where you store them.

author=huggawugga2
Unfortunately, it still isn't working. I changed the non-unicode language to Japanese, ran the program as an administrator and in compatibility mode, and all I get is this message when I try to run the game by clicking the "RPG_RT" icon within the folder.

As for the error you're getting now, I really don't know what's up! Have you installed the RPG Maker 2000 RTP? If it's not that, then I really, really don't know, all my above methods have helped other peoples' problems in relation to RPG Maker 2000(3).

Goliath Patch & Stats Question [2k3]

author=Ephiam
In most 2K3 games I make now, I just give every character a base AGL of 10, and then have it SLOWLY increase to about 15 from Lv.1 (AGL 10) to Lv.99 (AGL 15).

Certain weapons, shield, and relics give +1-3 AGL. I find it best to manage it that way.

Yes, this is a very good idea. The job system in my game emphasizes around that kind of system. Depending on jobs (E.G Mage v. Rogue) They have a base stat, and it slowly increases throughout the level curves, along with a few boosts in AGI in terms of equipment.

author=Xenomic
True, though it's a lot harder to manage than with higher stats (makes me wonder why they didn't just cap things at 255 to begin with...oh well). I guess maybe it's best if I set a STATIC speed stat for all playable characters then instead of having it increase at all. Though this also means I'll have to fix up everything that increases speed drastically too (there's an early game accessory I have that gives +20 speed and can be bought first thing, and one more later on that gives +50 speed...so much for THAT...).

It happens, heh. I've recently done a huge stat adjustment in my game as well so I can feel your pain. It also makes me wonder why they don't let you just code the formula for damage / stat algorithms yourself.

Took a break from chipset converting to convert some RM2K(3) charasets and facesets to replace my VX/Kaduki placeholders; Alex and co. really do finish up that majestic, classic feel. ( ̄▽ ̄)ノ

Oh, wow, so you're converting your RM2k3 resources into VXa? I never actually thought of that, I assume the methods of converting resources isn't exactly easy, though?

I really want to do that, now. But I have so many REFMAP resources I've created / recolored / edited. I'd be there for weeks, months, even.

Way to go though, I like how it's looking so far.

Goliath Patch & Stats Question [2k3]

Aye, that's probably the best. Speed / Agility stats have always been a very low value in games. (Speed in FF12 hardly went over 92, for example) so seeing a slow agility stat isn't very "gamebreaking".

Goliath Patch & Stats Question [2k3]

Well, I read on the page to Goliath was that

author=Aten
* Max AGILITY can now go upto 255, because higher values will make the game ATB bars go REALLY SLOW.

That pretty much justifies the entire thing, anything above 255 makes the ATB bar immensely slow.

I think the best way to tackle the ATB bar battle system is via the 255 agility method, because literally, anything above it makes the bar too slow, and the last thing you want in battles are a slow ATB.

The stats are a little dumb, yes. Alas why I would recommend coding a CBS if you're that adamant on the method, I'm sticking with the default battle system until I'm able to code a CBS from scratch suitably.

RPG maker 2k3 consistently failing

So you installed RPG Maker 2k / 2k3 from the .exe file within that folder? That may just be the problem, then. It seems your texts are broken or corrupted. You should download the programs from a site, rather than from a folder.

If the installation process got stuck on installing fonts, the .exe file is corrupt, thus disallowing you to see any text.

I'd recommend you completely uninstall both RPG Maker 2003 / 2000 if you installed them from that game folder.

~don't post illegal links, thanks. -mods~

And I would also recommend you reinstall the RTP for 2000 too.

If the problem persists, follow Nightowls method.

Running the program as an admin is simple. When you log on to windows after the boot up, generally you have the option to log on with the administrator account, and user account. Generally, admin accounts are password protected, but not in all cases (My admin account for windows isn't password protected because I'm too lazy to enter a password every time I log on. :P)

Compatibility mode is simple, simply right click on the program (generally on the desktop), and click properties. Go to the third tab that says Compatibility. Tick the box under "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select the highest windows version that appears in the box. For some, it may be Windows 2000, for example. Click Apply, then Ok.

That should do it.

Oh...wow

RPG maker 2k3 consistently failing

Hmm, have you tried completely reinstalling RM2k? That text you get in the error is un-decoded text or characters(which were probably Japanese) failed to translate properly.

By the way, if you're talking about RPG Maker 2003, you can't play RPG Maker 2000 games in it. You have to play r2k games from their project folder.

Does this happen for every 2k game you play? Are you launching the games you're playing FROM RPG Maker 2000? 2003?
