Oh gosh thanks guys.
I'm tweaking the palette now.
I do think some wildlife might add to the area too. Maybe fireflies or ambiguous creatures swimming around...
@trentinxd
Are the green circles light fixtures? Their perspective seems off... but maybe I'm just nitpicking. Otherwise it's a neat map style.

What has set the bar for you concerning RMN villains?
I thought I'd have a lot to say on this subject... but to my surprise I'm going to have to agree with most that there aren't many decent villains that spring to mind.
The baddies in horror games can be good n' spooky, but I hesitate to call most of them them villains. It seems ill-befitting for some reason.
I would say the villain in OFF, but that's not on RMN. x:
Didn't really care for the game for reasons, but I think that was done pretty well.

Speaking of arrow teleport events hah.
I'm frustrated with this whole forest area. = ^ =
I don't think it looks bad. But it's not great. I can't quite figure out what I need to do with it. Are the colors off? Do I need to add something to the tileset? Any suggestions would be juuust wonderful.
Accepting Criticism
author=halibabica
Thus, the best advice I can give to both creators and reviewers is: wait a day. Don't write your reviews or responses in the heat of the moment. Give it time to sink in and come back when you're not all worked up. You can choose your words more carefully, and it'll save a lot of trouble for everyone involved.
This. I agree with this wholeheartedly. I've seen plenty of reviews and replies from developers that were clearly written as immediate emotional responses, and they never turn out pretty. People have a tendency to be unnecessarily harsh and even childish when they're upset. If you're feeling heated over a game, a critique, or a response to said critique--the first thing you should do is walk away. Cool your head. Take your mind off of it. Then, if you still feel like you have something valid to say, go back and make your case.
Villainous Event?
Ooh. This could be fun. I had been tossing around a couple ideas that might be just perfect for this.
Dreaming Mary
This game is so beautiful. * ^ *
Already started playing a lil bit when I saw the download on Tumblr. Glad to see it on RMN as well.

character portraits
There's no reason to backpedal to 2003. D:
Using scripts is something you should definitely learn anyway, and it's not that hard.
(You'd probably have to use MORE if you worked in 2003 anyway, since it has less features than XP).
To have the portraits show up in the menus, you'll probably need a CMS (Custom Menu Script). They're easy enough to find, and there are lots of them.
For instance, in one of my old retired projects I used an FFVII CMS script.

(With this script, I believe you'll still see their sprites on the save screen though, but I'm sure you find one that works for you.)
