Return to Awz Review

Ha. It's all pretty much true. I have never been good at time management to make something in a limited amount of hours. Since I expected I wouldn't get too far thought I might as well trip people the heck out with a demented story. The naming had nothing to do with copyright though, they were selected to dumb the characters down.

Aptos Adventures DX (We need more games like this)

You are awesome for mentioning this. I hope this game gets considered for a feature.

MP3 to MIDI?

Times have changed, I never understood this either. It's easier today to download a song as some 60 meg .wav file than a 6 meg mp3 when this hobby started.

I was actually thinking that with continued gains in download speeds and hard drive space the MP3 might be obsolete in a few years time, in favor of higher quality sound formats. I think today an average mp3 file is almost proportionately as small as an average midi was back in 2000.

AFTERMATH VX - Version 0.4 Review

Interesting. It's true we never see movie reviews that tell the director how he could have made a better movie. And generally, we do not see a lot of reviews that tell a professional game making company how they could make a better game.

I think in the rpgmaker community we have adopted a review system of giving and taking constructively. It comes out of the personal relationships we have with each other that generally do not exist in the world of professional reviewing. Many of us take pride in helping bring out the best in each others projects. Also, unlike a released video game or movie, our projects can always change at any point in development even when we call them complete. I personally do not see anything offensive in this review, but I also can get how coming across as the know-it-all expert rubs people the wrong way. I just read it as some take it or leave it kind of advice.

Hurricane safety tip: when a dolphin hits your building, don't go outside to check if the dolphin's ok. It's the hurricane trying to lure you out.

Yes, it's true. I am still around today for knowing this.
If a huge ark crashes into your building, it's a sign.

A question about gamepages

Well, bumping it in the games section isn't the worst thing at all. It moves fast enough. I do not mind seeing games going up and down the list at that rate.

A question about gamepages

I don't see the need for regular downloads of what someone got done in the last week. IMO just complete your game or demo, upload it when you believe its finished and wont require a ton of further updates. If you need updates that often, your game probably was not ready for release in the first place. Just because your last release was not up to snuff doesn't mean someone else should be bumped off the front page because you neglected to do it right. Yes there are bugfixes and improvements.. but try to do all that in one go or over more time at least.

What makes a game rate 5 out of 5 stars?

You have earned 5 stars.

"I was very caught up in the game having a blast. I can tell you that some years from now I will still remember this game fondly. I can imagine revisiting it."

If I can say this about a game, it's about the highest compliment I can give. And really, it would be the most important thing that has to be said to feel a 5 is valid.

Scores are the bottom line, and in them I make sure to tell the creator how much I enjoyed a game. This is what both the game creator and viewing public wish to get out of a review score. I do not see it as a statement of "This is how much room you have for improvement". If you are trying to say that, it can just be told in the constructive body of your review.
