The site owner spouts white supremacist garbage and the mods react to my concerns by laughing at me. I'm not going to put up with a toxic community like this anymore.

Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!
I'm working on doing 4 small prologue chapters (which each introduce 2 characters) leading up to all eight of them meeting up in one place. Once I get there, I will release a demo. I haven't even figured out a name yet.

Different Elemental Types (than Fire, Ice, etc)
In my RPG, each character has next to a character role an element she's tied to. While equipment and attack items permit them to use other elements, their own elemental powers only encompasses one element (which also dictates innate resistances and weaknesses). So I can add enemies that matchup well/poorly against a particular element to encourage switching up parties. If you make elemental resistances/weaknesses important, make sure it takes more thought than just clicking whatever skill the enemy's weak to.
PS: There's some RPGs using partially/only wierd elements, like Kingdom of Loathing or OFF.

Do these skills suck?
In general, I doubt I want any of the weapon swapping feats since I mostly stick to a single weapon and I take the opportunity cost of not dealing damage on that turn.
Hidden Mechanics
I think the one mechanic you never have to explain is the RNG - chances are that the developer doesn't know how it works.
What's mostly important is understanding what mechanics are there and what purpose they serve. While most RPGs tend not to explain game mechanics to players, how much of a problem it is depends on whether your game is very simple (like Dragon Quest) or very complex (like Nethack).

[RMVX ACE] Help me make a challanging BATTLE SYSTEM
Here's a few ideas:
-Most of your HP should come from armor. While a sword slash easily results in dismemberment or death on a direct hit, most armor is capable of stopping such attacks.
-You can also give the weapon HP which is reduced when attacking or parrying.
-Make states based on stances which reduce/increase the damage taken to certain parts (head, torso, arms and legs is the most useful separation).
-Keep the normal turn-based structure in that you and the enemy take an action, forcing you to predict the opponent's behavior rather than purely reacting.
-Have your special skills be actions like feinting, taunting and so on to create openings.
-Add another repeatable fight with a training dummy that lets the player see how the combat system works, since it seems very unusual.
I can't fully design your combat system (especially not in like half an hour), but this should be useful still.

Horror Genre in RPG Maker
It may be because the RTP expansion for RPG Maker 2000 was mainly gore/horror themed. Otherwise, most "horror" games for unity and other 3D platforms tend to be just testosterone overdosed gritfests with zombies.
