It had a wonderful script that they spent three years on, and an exceptional director with an exceptional cast and crew, but it was a small movie, four walls and actors, and yet it was 100 days of shooting.”

Dumb Notes:

-don't write your characters around the story:
i.e. character sees dragon on mountain.
-write the story around your characters:
i.e. character sees dragon, seeing dragon changes character.

-let emotion drive the scene. i.e. Will they make it out of this alive?
-let anger drive the action. i.e. "Are you crazy? I'm not picking that up!"

Old/Lost RpgMaker Games - SegNin's Rare/Obscure RM Games Request Topic

author=omegaox
I have an update regarding the Quest Fantasy series, which I posted about last year: the main author of the series has retrieved the lost games and compiled all of them into a single zip file, which can be found here: http://believeinthe.net/Quest%20Fantasy%20Collection.7z
The games have been numbered according to their release date, the font size was fixed for the last title (since the text cut off originally), and the unfinished, unreleased game Radiant Trigger is included. The download contains a text file with some additional information.

I wanted to ask while playing catch up, was anyone able to snag this?

EDIT:
author=Darken
Special thanks to Gari for filling out the rest of the googledocs list with the titles and info,

+2 Great work Gari.

author=Darken
I really think the googledocs should eventually be the defacto standard as this sort of stuff isn't static and is always needed some continual maintenance or update. Any methods to make it easier on everyone and not rely on one person is important.

I'm 100% on board with this. I'm being completely honest here when I say I was never good at the archiving stuff. The most I could ever do here was hold on to stuff and record requests and try to find stuff through old hangouts. SegNin, TheGameArchivist/TheChosenFew, krum110487, Darken, Gari, you guys are the real experts at this ♥.

RIP to a legend: Rieko Kodama (Phantasy Star, Skies of Arcadia, 7th Dragon)

https://thehistoryofhowweplay.wordpress.com/2023/01/01/2022-the-losses/
posting this here, mentions Kodama and other industry legends that passed away last year, like Bernard Stolar.

Makes me sad, angry.

:(

Moonsong: First Verse

I was thinking about this game today and it's download count.
Cause when it came out in 2020 originally, it had about 300 downloads.
Which was the "new normal" for some rpgmaker games.

From 2021, to the time it got featured game status, to now, it's jumped to about 1500 downloads.
That's pretty great ❤️. And it kind of shows peeps are still interested in playing classic rpgmaker games.

Congrats Kaempfer!

Looking forward to more with this.

Old/Lost RpgMaker Games - SegNin's Rare/Obscure RM Games Request Topic

Now that I have some free time.I'm gonna try spending this month playing catch up with this. I'm not gonna overhaul it like I did 3 years ago. Last time I did that, it took about 6 months and I don't really have time to do that.

But what I am going to do is make sure I've backed up segnin's latest stuff. add anything that's been added since the last overhaul (I've sort of been doing that already, but I'm gonna double check and make sure.)
Update the most wanted list and other lists, cause a lot of stuff has been found now (Thank you again SegNin XD ❤️).

But yeah, just a simple clean up at the moment. I'm gonna do some small fixes to the google drive list, cause I'm responsible for some of those. Like I didn't notice some links were broken till the list brought it to my attention. So I'm gonna go through that as well.

I just wanna say thanks again to everyone whose been involved with this thread. This was originally Darken's idea. When I originally decided to overhaul this thread back in 2017. Segnin was gone, not only that, but a lot of games started disappearing. Especially the GGZ games.

As I mentioned before, this thread was originally Darken's idea. And it's a really great idea. Because we really do need a reference library for rpgmaker games. I know it was probably laughable back in 2007; why would anyone want to hold onto these old rpgmaker games when most of them are bad?...Well like, most of them are bad, but like, most of them had some really great fucking ideas. Some you could turn into their very own games. I could talk about this for ages, but like, looking at all the different ways peeps tried to create action rpgs in rpgmaker2003 and tried to solve the problem, with hit detection, and tile based movement, is a lot like studying art history.

Before making Final Fantasy Dog, I studied several different final fantasy fan games, just to see how far they got with it, before deciding how to make my own. Like, most of these games are made by hobbyist, working on these things, between school or work. Some of them get released and become really great games and then the creators move onto something else. But most of them are like, really neat tech demos, that worked out some ideas, were never finished, but are very interesting studies to start from - If we don't have this reference library here, you're starting from square one all over again, with rpgmaker.

This is why I felt, this was important, and why I wanted to do everything I could to keep it around. But I never imagined it'd grow into something more than it was. So I get taken by surprised, sometimes, when the archive thread shows up in a blog, or someone made a quote about it or it shows up briefly in a youtube video. I feel super embarrassed about it, because what we have here was never very good - but we're mostly doing it for own sakes.

Like, sometimes you work on something for years and never see anything come from it. So it feels really good to know when you're doing good work. I just want to thank you guys for that and It really means a lot. Things are so different now, from what we had in 2007 when it was just mostly RTP games and snes rips stuffed in an internet forum.

Again, Thank You.

EDIT: Also, thank Darken. XD

Trouble Inspector and Discboy Search For A Vaguely Defined Lizard

...I finished this a couple of days ago and I keep forgetting to post my mini review. This is pretty great actually, and I want to try and get it nominated for beetle ninja and best short game this year, but I can't make any promises.(I'm also writing this with a cold)

Vaguely Defined Lizard is about 3 hours long. it's a very short game with about 5 dungeons. The difficultly in this game is reasonable - not too hard, but difficult enough that it sort of forces you to learn the game mechanics of the game: (exploring dungeons, avoiding traps, gathering better equipment and items and fighting monsters) Without spoiling too much, the 4th boss is a welcome reprieve from these things, but keeps things interesting, by asking you to pay attention. The final boss has this really nice finality to it, with 5 forms and a really great animated transformation that follows each one, that beating it feels like something you've finally earned.

The graphics are gorgeous at what they're trying to recreate, that I can't help but wonder if this was released back in 2007, what type of reception it would receive, when all eyes were still only on rpgmaker2003 games.

Awe vs. Ozzy was good. This is better, but it's a really short event game. I can't help but be a little curious at what awe's 10th game is going to look like, because with each short game that he releases, there's small incremental improvements with each installment. There's a lot of talent and creativity here, that I kind of want to see what a full game would look like from awe - He's just barely scratching the surface of what rpgmaker2003 can do animation wise, that It's going to be really exciting to see what else he can do later on.

It bums me out that these games aren't getting more attention than it does, but this what the beetleninja award is for.
Keep your eyes on awe, he's doing some great stuff here.

Hi, I'm trying to find an old game that was based on girls in high school in the modern time fighting back supernatural monsters - kind of Persona-like with slice of life and adventure themes. It was only posted on the RMN forums by the developer, not in the game submissions, and was quite long. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name! I think it was made in 2k3.

Just an update on this. They found it, after talking it over on discord, they found out on their own that it ended up being Final Fantasy High. I really need to update the list.

EDIT: nevermind it's on there, i renamed it to Final Fantasea to avoid DMCA Eitherway, good work everyone. it's a cool feeling to see the archive work.

EDIT2: as soon as they found it, it got DMCA'd.
here's the original link for it, it was TheChosenFew's Copy: https://rpgmaker.net/forums/topics/4667/?post=459155#post459155

it was version 2.0. But I didn't get a chance to check to see if it was the same version that's already available on the archive. Maybe we can restore it.

The copy that was taken down had this file name: Final Fantasy High v2.0 (RM2k3) (Yumblie) gonna take a quick look at the archive.

EDIT3: Nevermind it's in the archive.

Just as a fyi, rpgmaker fes it's shutting down in March. But not worries, I have already downloaded every game ever made plus meta data. I will upload it all in March once the servers shut down. Figured this post made the most sense :)

FES is the 3DS version right? Thank you krum110487 ♥! I was like...scrambling to get what I could since I'm not familiar with 3DS stuff or hacking. I wasn't able to grab the disgaea dlc and other oddities.

But yeah, thanks for letting me know! ♥. 3DS stuff was out of my element. Same with um, stuff like the mega man powered up server shutting down, unrelated to rpgmaker i know, but it would've been cool to grab those. I think someone already uploaded them to webarchive, and all you need to do now is swap it to your psp memory card folder. Still, it's cool to hear backingup efforts in various formats.

Thanks again krum!
