“It’s hard to believe you can do good work for the little amount of money these days. We did ‘The Graduate’ and that film still sustains. It had a wonderful script that they spent three years on, and an exceptional director with an exceptional cast and crew, but it was a small movie, four walls and actors, and yet it was 100 days of shooting.”

Dumb Notes:

-don't write your characters around the story:
i.e. character sees dragon on mountain.
-write the story around your characters:
i.e. character sees dragon, seeing dragon changes character.

-let emotion drive the scene. i.e. Will they make it out of this alive?
-let anger drive the action. i.e. "Are you crazy? I'm not picking that up!"

Does anyone remember GamingGroundZero? (Remembering GamingGroundZero)

Most of what people saw of my work back then were my early illustrations on GGZ’s site. (Someone in this thread called my budget-Squall sketch “concept art” and bless that compassionate person’s heart for being so generous to a teenage weeb edgelord)
Whoa it's cool to find out who did what when it came to the splash logos. I think you were the staff member with the logo of the red hair girl in the purple dress? I don't know why I have a strong nostalgia fixation on the site design and who all the staff were being as an outsider. Yeah it can be a little DeviantArt cringe looking back but even that stuff can become part of someone's childhood and to look up to. It would be sick to find some html archive of the site somewhere, that's an archival holy grail to me even if it might lead to some embarassment.

+2
I'd love to see any artwork, just to remind me that this was once real.

I remember being so impressed with Kindred Saga it influenced me to start putting custom systems in my own games, even if it took weeks to retrofit everything. At one point I remember saying that it'll be a grave injustice if this Qheretic guy doesn't become a software dev one day; glad to see that everything worked out and all is right with the world.

...Oh shit! you're uh...legacy001!! you did um...Naufraga and The Rose Chronicals right?

Video Game Critic Wager 2023

-15 counter pick loss for Hogwarts Legacy.

Polygon is making me sweat here, but 81/100 doesn't sound too bad

I keep forgetting how ruthless fantasty game critic is, like it's the safe and unassuming choices that leads to winners here, it's wild to think about.

Posting from a Tim Hortons

This post, perhaps? The text specifically talking about making a fan-trailer uses strikeout, so, I question the seriousness of it. Though, LordBlueRouge seems to have a tendency to use strikeout as a "speaking softly" effect, so, I dunno.

I'm always serious...™

...Speaking honestly however, I think visitorsfromdreams would be a better person for the job, since he's done this professionally and I admire his work greatly, (I'm still pinning for slime knight to be RMN's mascot, I would've thrown him into so many commercials).
I don't work well with deadlines yet, so I mostly do this stuff for fun at the moment.

All I really wanna do is remake this:

...into a short commercial and have like cash, liberty and few others say like "Hero's Realm" at the end of it.
As soon as like a demo or something is released, I'll start gathering footage.

Old/Lost RpgMaker Games - SegNin's Rare/Obscure RM Games Request Topic

Posting this here so I won't forget to do this:

I backed up segnin's recent downloads. Now I'm gonna try and update the first thread, with the revisions - but also to see if I have everything downloaded, up till the last point I updated this.

(Whenever someone posted a download, i'd quickly download it and throw it onto a memory card,) but I wanna double check and make sure I have everything.

Again, apologies for being so slow with this, everyday in 2023 something else seems to come up.

EDIT: Editing the missing/most wanted list over the new year days
EDIT2: Gonna try and gather any downloads from 2021 to now: page 28 to page 25
EDIT3: Clean up most wanted list

New Misao Promo? 2023 and beyond? (need help from hardcore anime fans; yes you)

...I'm just gonna quickly post this before I forget - I don't know if anything is going to come of it. But I thought I'd post it here anyways just to get the ball rolling on it and see what comes out.

Rurouni Kenshin is an "old" anime (1994/1996-1998). The really cool thing about animes from the 1996, is that they'd often have really cool fansites or shrines that'd highlight the best episodes, stories, scenes, animations, movies of these particular shows etc - when they were finally translated and brought over to the states during the 2000s

Now, the problem is that most of these sites are gone now. Either they've kind of amalgamated into a fandom.wikia, with interesting facts and anecdotes or youtube vids arguing the best episodes are often DMCA taken down.

I'd like to do a new promo for the Misaos. But the problem is that Rurouni Kenshin is about 95 episodes long (I haven't seen the movies or anything). and I don't really have the time to watch TV much as much as I'd like to. Would you guys know of like any good Rurouni Kenshin anime fansites that are still around that'd have like the best episodes listed or like, animated clips from these episodes - so I can very quickly see what I could use for a new promo?

I remember Samurai Pizza Cats had a bunch of great animated gifs. same with Ranma 1/2's The Curse of the Contrary Jewel, (those had some great animated clips too) but old anime fansites seem to be a lot harder to find through google these days.

So yeah, any help is appreciated here.
the more hardcore of a Kenshin fan you are. the better.

Misao Results 2022

Congrats to the Winners!!
EDIT: oh shit there's a tie!
EDIT2: Oh shit there's two ties! that's so cool!! XDD

2023 Update: Congrats to the winners. posting this for posterity. This year was a bad year, for life in general. there were more important things going on in the world. Post-Pandemic life, The War in Ukraine. and the raise in inflation and the cost of living. A lot of family and relatives passed away on my end (Ll and Al). So coming to RMN kind of helped me cope throughout with what was going on made this year, a lot easier - for 2022, We didn't know if we were actually gonna have the misaos this year with everything going on. But somehow we managed to get a variety of games this year, with no clear winners; this never really happens, so this was actually a pretty good year all things considered. Big thank you to rpgmaker addict who would not be possible without. Please enjoy the games below. Especially the Eye Candy ones, and stuff like The Alley. if you want to see where rpgmaker is going, these were pretty great.

Video Game Critic Wager 2023

Harry Potter and the cursed child is doing great. (in Toronto)

Hogwarts Legacy previews are saying it's the best harry potter game, but divisive.
It was randomly chosen as a counter pick, but i thought I'd stick with it just to see what happens.
Embargo lifts in 5 days.

...I'm gonna get slammed.

EDIT:Maybe this is karma for stealing space marine

Can you please recommend some great shorter, well paced games on this site?

quickly replying cause I agree Grimm's Hollow was really good.

You might also want to check out.

Dead Again https://rpgmaker.net/games/11232/

and the tech demo

Dandelion https://rpgmaker.net/games/11209/

They're both really short games.
Dandelion is a incredibly short visual tech demo.
But Dead Again is a semi-action jrpg with multiple endings. You'll want to get all the endings in this game, because the game is so short, but the longer the game gets, the better the endings you get. I never get tired of how creative it is. The combat system is also really cool and feels like a combination of Resident Evil Gaiden for the GBC and SweetHome. Kind of wish smokingspoon would release more games. super creative this one.

Goaling It 2023

Thank You Cap_H, ♥ good luck with these endeavors.

Me, I mostly wanted to post in this, this year to hold myself accountable. Last year was awful. The worst. The majority of the bad stuff is now out of the way. This year doesn't look like it's gonna be shaping out any better, at least around my area:

...But I mostly wanted this thread to exist this year, cause I wanna finish 6 tech demos then try to release them the following year. If there's any reason why I couldn't finish it this year, at least peeps know what I was working on.

-1)a dumb thing
0) another dumb thing
1) Very short, not as good, not a steamed hams sequel, but it's rpgmaker2k3
2) Final Fantasy V: B@BB
3) Very short, rpgmaker2k3 tech demo based on "Cliff Hanger" Stallone

4) Sabin Blitz Tutorial w/ sidewinder.
5) Very short, thing esby asked me to do years ago. might tie into this next years misao promo, similar to steamed hams clincher.
6)Beyond Oasis/Story of Thor, Intro Tech Demo. (similar to the YS3 Wanderers of RMN I did years ago)

Please post your gammak goals this year, it helps motivate the rest of us. I'm personally looking forward to machine that breaths. I feel reading and following it's game development journey is quite admirable, especially when there's shakesup or delays, because that's where the most important lessons are learned - sharing these stories helps us become better creators - check the game out when you have the chance to. I wish there was more guys doing this sort of this work and writing about it in journals.

But yeah, good luck everyone!

That thing you want but never get.

-Since the 90s, some decent way to pirate ps1 games that doesn't require modding, emulation or disc swap tricks. Too lazy to buy a ps1 that may or may not have DRE and ship it out to get modded.

just wanna chime in here cause, I like darken and i think he is a good guy.
You should look into StoneAge Gamer and their PSIO bundles they'll install it and ship it to you; the "GOOD" PS1 they sent was gently used, no markings, almost like new)

I bought one a few years ago just to play stuff I couldn't play off the PSPGO like some of the PS1 lightgun games
(it was great to finally play stuff like RESurvivor with the gun reinstalled into the game; but now i need to find someone who can repair 93' RCA CRT F27227EM in Toronto in 2023, rip any help here is appreciated).

Anyways, When you buy it, They send you a bunch of free PS1 games you can download like Ted Woosley's Shadow Madness, etc. Off the bat, any of the early ps1 games that use red book audio, is very difficult to install on this thing. (PSP running PS1 games had the same problem, but official releases and fan eboots that you can easily download fixed this if you were playing these PS1 games on the PSP) But anything later like squaresoft games or harder to emulate stuff like Valkryie Profile, runs like a dream on the PSIO, because all you need is the bin and cue files.

The only caveat to owning one of these things is the limitations of the technology from that era; modern day stuff like software resetting, to get back to the main menu and the list of roms, has been added to the main board through a dipswitch. So you don't have to get up and press the reset/power button if you want to play another game - The only time I accidentally triggered this was while playing a lightgun game, cause the gun itself only has 3 buttons. But for everything else, you'll probably be okay. But you still need like a memory card to save your game and other limitations of that era.

the PSPGO was a nice alternative - you have 30 save slots for each game and one controller you can swap controller ports with, no peripherals; but they kind of skyrocketed in price since the WATA games Mario 64 scandal, and you need the PSPGO (sometimes $300), the Cradle ( sometimes $200) and component cables (???) and a dualshock 3 (???) to get the most of out. But hacking a psp/pspgo these days is simple as installing RTP.

So yeah, there's options.

but ya, just to contribute to this thread, probably a sega saturn with all the fixings.
and repairing that RCA 1994 F27227EM :lbrsad:
