Akira Toriyama passed away
Before it got syndication on Teletoon and YTV in Canada. I remember staying up till 5am on a Friday just to catch ocean dub dragon ball on FOX TV channel 29, and then a couple of years later, staying up till 5 to record Dragon Ball Z from YTV on VHS tape to show my friends later. The first episode I saw of DBZ was "Terror on Arlia".
It was surreal to watch this episode at night, being so familiar with the first 13 episodes of DragonBall, because it was still Dragon Ball but they devoted an entire episode to the villains?? and the villains looked like they could've been good guys till they destroyed the planet they just saved -there was something very beavis & butthead about the episode. Followed by Home for Infinite Losers (I have this episode memorized off by heart on a VHS tape somewhere with Roujin Z and Wings of Honneamise) they made Hell look like a pretty cool place to live.
In between all this, I remember going to China Town during 95' and picking up a Dragon GT super sayian 3 figurine and this poster:

This was back before the internet, there were no english dubs, or video streaming sites to share online yet.
There was no fan sites like planet namek. So I had no idea who these characters were or how big the show was gonna be.
68 is so young.
I think the coolest moment for me was seeing Dragon Ball Super Heroes being a box office success during the middle of the pandemic? I feel like there was so much more time to see how big these characters would become, sort of like how everyone during the 90s was wearing those Looney Tunes and Disney's sweat shirts, because everyone had seen the animated shorts through syndicated reruns.
EDIT: One more thing to add. During a recent PAX interview with Sakaguchi. Sakaguchi said Toriyama still used Adobe Illustrator 1.0 to make art with. I still remember that to this day. cause it was a reason to still rock old software.

]I've been trying to find this for a while... it was something I played quite a few years ago. I don't recall the engine, if I had to guess it was probably XP or VX Ace. It was a short game, but quite challenging, one or two wrong moves would probably result in you being unable to win future fights. I think it all took place in one big dungeon comprised of like 3 areas, and it had a few bosses. I THINK you only played as one character, too, so probably a single-character RPG.
EDIT: To add some additional details, I believe the dungeon was some kind of ruin or fortress. The very last area of the game was something different, it took place in some kind of other dimension or magical space. It used Kevin Macleod's "Darkest Child" music for the area in question.

[RM2K3] Blitz Mechanic? Channel Time on Magic?

...the revelation I had while working on this for the last few days was um... 2k3 battle animations are always going to look kind of bad? - for the longest time I thought, keeping the animation stationary or having the animation play in one spot would help negate the shadow/ghosting effect that happens in 2k3? it doesn't, it's always going to be there, it's just the way 2k3 processes battle animations; there's no way around it, unfortunately.
...but I'm gonna continue with this anyways cause someone out there is probably gonna see how far sidewinder and I got with this and try to improve upon it at somepoint maybe? who knows.
The move inputs are sound. I just changed aurabolt in Common Events from:
down, down, left + Z
down, left + Z
And it works like a dream. So yeah, once I finish Suplex, I'm gonna upload Sidewinders template here in this thread at some point with very minor instructions on how to copy and paste this into common events for your own game - The rest will be up to you guys. But the basic template will be there.

So just a quick update with this. I finished up aurabolt. now I just gotta clean it up and add sound to it.
While making this i kind of figured out why we've never seen a blitz system in 2k3? the animations are hard as hell to pull off. I'm using 2009 so the jump to the monsters will be cleaner. but um. to get all these sprites to do these things it's very difficult with just 25 frames. I might sit on this for awhile before releasing it. But an animated gif is do able.
The real champion here is sidewinders template. I'll include that in the gamepage as well, it's going to be the first thing everyone sees and the guide to follow because other than copying and pasting the code into common events, i don't really know how to explain how this works.

Agreed. For anyone who hasn't played this yet: don't let the screenshots fool ya. this is actually a solid title and a great way to start off 2024 if you haven't played this yet. I'm still making my way through Chapter 4.
Chapter 1 and 2 are great, very funny. Chapter 3 could be spun off into it's own game. incredibly well polished, very well done.
Looking forward to playing through Chapters 5 and 6.
Great stuff here. an early highlight of 2024.

just small update. I'm working on this again. I'm gonna upload sidewinders template cause that's most of the legwork.
it's 4 pages for
up,
down,
left,
right.
then one page for recording inputs
and then a 5th page where all the magic happens.
all I did was change it to weapon based, so it looks/feels/acts more like blitz.
I'll be honest. I don't really know how this works, so I'm going to have trouble explaining it with my dinosaur brain, but I know how to put it together:
all I did when trying to start working on this again was copy and paste the code into the current template i'm working on, and then added 3 pages to the monsters group page, so that it works in battles. and then added animation to it.
It's sounds like more work then it needs to be because sidewinder simplified it a lot; but it looks and feels like blitz.
