“It’s hard to believe you can do good work for the little amount of money these days. We did ‘The Graduate’ and that film still sustains. It had a wonderful script that they spent three years on, and an exceptional director with an exceptional cast and crew, but it was a small movie, four walls and actors, and yet it was 100 days of shooting.”

Dumb Notes:
-don't write your characters around the story:
i.e. character sees dragon on mountain.
-write the story around your characters:
i.e. character sees dragon, seeing dragon changes character.
-let emotion drive the scene. i.e. Will they make it out of this alive?
-let anger drive the action. i.e. "Are you crazy? I'm not picking that up!"

It's interesting that it's from 2015, It is a bit sadder tone and I think I was probably more depressed that year judging by this!

author=Ocean
I may put up a blog post talking more about the dev process and maybe why it took so long for me to finally get around to posting it
Yeah, do this! this is would be really cool! ❤.

It's lots of vibes. Ocean is great at vibes. And it's a small, self-contained game that knows it's small and self-contained, much like Mystic Sunrise. It takes a level of control and vision I've yet to grasp to achieve this.
This. 100% this. it makes me kind of angry how good Ocean is at this, lol.
Rubi: Fire Spirit
I only had a really small chance to play a small bit of this 2015 revised edition,
so I can't comment on much. But from the small amount of bit that I did play the new animations are really good in this.
great work guys.❤

It would take a very long time to do this. Longer than this event. I was hoping I could get RMTool to work with the Steam version of Rm2k3 but it doesn't seem to function on newer systems, or it's just the steam version.
Yeah, last time I checked RMTool is difficult to run with steam rpgmaker2003?
cause it reads something different, I think?
If you're still having problems, Prinnyhero:
1)create a backup copy of your game, rename the folder "demo"
2)Download Steam 2k3 RTP
3)Once Steam RTP is downloaded, create a copy of the RTP folder,
4)Go into the copy of your RTP folder and merge/drag and drop the following folders into your "demo" folder:(Example)

But, since you're working with 2k3, you'll want to look for and copy these folders instead.
Backdrop
Battle
BattleCharSet
BattleWeapon
CharSet
ChipSet
FaceSet
GameOver
Monster
Music
Panorama
Sound
System
System2
Title
Harmony.dll
It'll ask you to merge these folder, click>Do this to all the folders and click>yes.
5)Go into RPG_RT.ini and add “FullPackageFlag=1 and hit save.
It should look like this:

6)And then like...find a spare computer to run the demo folder on to see if it can run without RTP etc.
But ya, once it's able to run without RTP you can start crafting your demo copy for the event.

RTP these days is usually 25mbs, back in 2007, this use to be a lot, but these days 25mb is next to nothing now. So I don't think peeps will mind if you add the RTP

[RM2K3] variables and conditional branches
[RM2K3] variables and conditional branches
author=Renegade_grenades
Edit: I've been messing with it more and figured out that it's the variables that aren't totalling up. The conditional branches work off a switch but not a variable, and i can't get anything to trigger off a variable.
Does anyone know why the variables either wouldn't add up or wouldn't trigger anything?
hi Renegade_grenades ❤️.
Apologies for the wait. If you can, do a print screen and share your code with us, this might help us figure out where the problem is.
The biggest problem I usually have when using variables, is forgetting to set/record the variable, before plugging them into the right conditions:
So you what you want to do is on the first page:
Insert>Control Variable> Single "Your Variable" Operation "Set" Operand "Constant" The number you want to set it to.
In this example, I set the variable to "0" so that on the next page...

...when the conditional branch looks for "0"
Insert>Conditional Branch>Variable is>Equal to>Fixed "0"
...it will play the next event under those conditions.

If setting your variable to a particular number still doesn't work,
let us know and someone more experienced will hopefully come along and help ya out.
But ya, see if you can post your work to with print screen/imgur etc, and we'll try and fix what's wrong.

Old/Lost RpgMaker Games - SegNin's Rare/Obscure RM Games Request Topic
Thanks Reincarnation ❤️
I'm gonna do a once over of the missing thread when I have some more free times.
It's just been a tumultuous year. I haven't been looking at this closely enough.
But it looks like, there's a lot more recovered here than I realized?
It's a lot of work to keep up editing the bbcode on this thread. So I think the issue was when SegNin returned, I was so excited, I just looked at what he posted on the forum, but in order to cutdown on time and work, I just tried to match what he mentioned through his posts following his return? - I didn't look at the haul closely enough that he brought onto megaupload. But it looks like most, if not all the stuff he originally uploaded, has been recovered as he mentioned back in 2022.
So I'm going to try and clean up the missing list when I have some more time.
Again, my apologies to everyone.
Thank you again for your hardwork SegNin ❤️.
thank you Darken ❤️

Bringing Back a Potential RM Renaissance
I missed out on this. Great thread as always. I only caught it cause Roden mentioned it his status post ❤️
(please finish songs from Aelsea Roden, you're too talented to quit!!).

Honestly, this is where I wanted rpgmaker2003 to be about 20 years ago, but I think, a lot of stuff had to happen first, before people would start seeing rpgmaker2003 this way?
Just to put things in perspective. Japan has had rpgmaker much longer than we had. They've had access and have been making these games since the 90s with Rpgmaker Dante 98 on PC-98 in 92, and snes rpgmakers. They've had contests, they've had competitions, some of them have even been turned into commercial games, more than once.
Our history has been very very different. But I also feel like this history has shaped the way we've seen and used rpgmaker, for years? - like, FF7 set the world on fire, in 1997... but it's like a 36 hour RPG spanning 3 discs with a budget of 80 million. Back in 2000s, we had no idea what a finished rpgmaker game would look like. We just looked at the commercial stuff we grew up with and tried to copy it - I think if there's anything that's changed, it's that now, there's a more realistic expectation of what a finished rpgmaker game should look like. And that it's okay to make, play and finish smaller games - or just smaller rpgs.
On a semi-unrelated note: There's a really cool game coming out, from this years VIP2023 summer camp, where these guys made, a pinball machine, Wolfenstein 3D and a SEGA arcade afterburner clone and a tamagotchi, all in rpgmaker2003 (think? I'll have to double check) - If I can grab a gif of it I'll upload it here -- Really impressive stuff.

We can talk about the merits of engines all we want. It'd be really cool to encourage another renaissance where there's not crazy expectations for a magnum opus RPG, but more just story oriented pixel art games made by people who don't take it too seriously. Thoughts, opinions?
