Is it okay to use music from other games?

What's your stance on ripped graphics from other games? If you don't agree with using them, then you can't use music from other games without looking like a hypocrite. I don't think there is an actual 'blacklist' though, buddy, so you're safe there..

The good news is, there's a ton of free music on the internet for RPG Maker projects dating all the way back to 2002. You have to dig around for it, but the Japanese RM community has its share of composers that produce music for you to use. Be certain to understand the terms before using though. Rule of thumb: If you don't know your content is legal for commercial projects, don't use it!

If anybody actually wants to use MIDIs and people request it, I have an archive of around 5,000 free to use original songs for game projects that I can upload. I built it up myself over the past decade so I wouldn't have to rely on RTP music or FF6 MagiTek.ogg. Songs are credited with links to the composer made to the best of my ability, and some are archived from sites and artists that have since been lost to the internet.

My only disclaimer is I just can't guarantee they are acceptable for commercial projects.

Edit: p.s., I realize that most projects are not commercial, but it's important to make the distinction gomen ^^;;;

[RM2K][RM2K3] Small survey about patches - takes only a minute

I don't use RPG Maker 2003 currently, but purchased it on Steam and left some feedback for your survey. Cheers~!

Checking interest for McBacon Jam #2

Not everybody is friends on an internet forum, and some people just don't mesh well at all. It would be a very novel and unique take on the game jam to assemble some of these people into the same teams. Who knows, some people may even emerge from it as... Friends.

Disclaimer edit: I can't be held responsible if heated rivalries tear a team apart. I hope that everybody here would be nice enough to release me from all accountability regarding that!

Checking interest for McBacon Jam #2

There are so many gamejams on the internet that this time it would really need something standout about it.. You need a draw or a twist, something that will really get people on-board.

What if... This bacon, sieg friar thing, or whatever it's called, had a clause where you had to work with people you didn't particularly like? Some members don't like anybody, so it could be very easy to hammer out a few initial teams. It could test the limits of cooperation and be very fascinating to see what kinds of short projects emerge, chiefly produced by the power of contempt for another human being.

Let me know what you think.

As a person who makes music I prefer spending most of the time outside composing in silence. And most of the times if I do start to listen to some music, I just start analyzing it. .-.
Saaaaaaame the joys of being an Audio Technology Student ...
You joyless lot. I hope you can one day find the sense of wonder and enthusiasm you have lost by professionally pursuing exciting careers in sound technology.

For everybody that can listen to music normally, I'd like to recommend "Accuradio." It's the only internet music service besides Spotify that I can get to work in my region, but it has plenty of stations for work and productivity and three more for every other possible genre. I rarely use Youtube unless I want a specific song which I don't find worth downloading.

[RMVX ACE] What do you dislike in ATB Systems?

Yo, Grandia III's really good and it was the first example I thought of when clicking this thread. I love that game a lot, despite of its story and characters being hideously stupid. There are numerous flaws in the battle system that revolve around its supplementary features, but the core concept is a lot of fun to play with and visualizes the turn process in a way that you have to base your movements around interrupts and speed to win. I think canceling an enemy out of a devastating skill is one of the most rewarding feelings a player can get in an ATB/Turn-based system, because it feels less like the entire battle is a game of random numbers and that you can strategize your way through it.

I think that CTB is definitely a more compelling system than ATB though, because if I have to play a game in semi-real time I'd rather just be running around in an action battle system. RPGs with a lot of static elements in battle are best utilized by treating it as a deep kind of thinking game and I've yet to see a commercial game that presents a compelling case for blending the two. Maybe someone can provide me some examples?

I'm too old and jaded to find humor in my rpgmakers programs. I just want it to make games!!
