There is still subtle communication in the size and shape of the Dark Souls ui. Health is a significantly larger bar because the difference between 0 health and 0 mana is no health means your game ends. If you want to just ignore the importance and power of color in your project, at least consider that
Look at this in grayscale.
Look at Craze's image in grayscale.
If we take out all the color in an image, an artistically strong tileset and UI will have no trouble communicating itself. Most pixel artists believe that if your image doesn't read well when you take out all the color, changes need to be made. What we can see in the tileset and ui you are currently using is that there is a very low value range. This is creating a very muddy palette that already isn't pleasant to the eyes, so you absolutely don't want to make it worse with a UI that doesn't stand out at all.
I made some adjustments so you can see.

You could probably argue that people can read your bar to the left. I'm sure after some effort they could. But do you want to settle for that? You could make a much stronger composition by making some tiny alterations while retaining your recycled use of map tiles on the UI layer.
Yes games making fans, we can have our cake (and eat it too).
author=ESBYThat's why I used established colours for the bars, colours people make instinctive associations with. I think after 30+ years health bars are pretty well established within rpgs now, so I don't think I need a giant arrow and flashing text to explain that the health bar is in fact the health bar. Dark Souls and Skyrim seem to be doing quite well for themselves.
Do you raise the colour blind point with everybody? It seems a weird thing to single me out on.
What?

is the hud location ok?
Any time you have to communicate very important information to the player it should have an extremely high contrast from your backgrounds. Don't even consider it as part of the game world. It's on the other side of the fourth wall. It's aware its in a game.
That said, I wouldn't re-use tileset assets to make your hud either. Make it stand out. Also it would be good to provide some indication of what functions those red and blue bars represent. As an RPG player since 1994 I instinctively associate red with health and blue with magic. What if that's not your intention? What if the person is color blind? What if your player is a baby? Are you really going to turn off a baby from video games forever???
Work hard and your next hud is going to make you and I proud. :')

Still working on the details
I like this sepia toned map. Are you planning any kind of player interactivity with this? Maybe a version where you can zoom in to a closer level?
[RM2K3] Footsteps? wow
Please don't forget that you might need to add a wait in there somewhere depending on the length of your sound effect.
While you are add it, why not add some additional sounds for different terrain types and some animations when running through dirt? If you're going the event route, there's really no harm in amping up your presentation to the maxxx

The "new" RM2k3 engine
The Steam store has been around long enough for the majority of people to realize even the most regurgitated trash is worth something in a world with 7 billion+ humes .

author=LightningLord2If you discovered you had a dominoes pizza next to your games hut, would you ever leave it? Tim and Leonard wouldn't, and if this thread is any indication, they haven't.
I have a feeling they won't return to talk to people here...
e: Do I at least get a complimentary pizza slice for completing the survey? That's time I'll never get back. Please send it via express mail to Korea because when you open a Dominoes pizza box from here it's like opening a mimic chest in Dark Souls!!
List of plot twists?

Those are some of the better tiles for use in VX/A. They're really nice and vibrant, but besides the benefit of higher resolution lack some of the features in the original sets that allowed for more sophisticated map design. This isn't necessarily a limitation of the newer engines, but were probably excluded to facilitate "ease of use."
I still don't like the canopy tiles in it though. They don't -need- to be that blocky..

I don't really like polls in this situation because they are far better at pulling statistical data than anything else. Polling surveys are the kinds of things most people associate with the end of purchasing a new product or working with a customer service rep. They're impersonal and have a rap for being that thing you want to get through as quickly as possible to get back to whatever you were doing before.
If they want to 'chance' getting any meaningful input data via this method, then that is certainly their right. I wish LeonardEilander and Sons the best. I hope you can create your best RPG ever .
