More stress should be put on custom graphics

"I believe that more stress should be put on custom graphics."
Then when you do see one, you go and mock it for being ugly, despite being pretty good for someone starting to make their own graphics. Oh that's real encouraging. So you shouldn't make games with custom graphics unless you're a pro at it, apparently. That's wonderful.

More stress should be put on custom graphics

"This is ugly" is good criticism. If someone would like to know WHY it is ugly, they can just ask. Constructive criticism would be like, "This is ugly, change it." People don't like criticism that is hard for them to apply, so they attack your criticism because they don't want what you said to be true
That's not constructive at all.

"This is ugly, change it" can mean a lot of things. Maybe you don't like the style. Maybe it looks good but animates poorly. Maybe the colors chosen are bad but the actual style is fine. Saying "This is ugly" isn't gonna cause a major revelation and have the person suddenly make pro style graphics because of it. If they know it is, it'll take some time and practice before they could actually make the graphics look decent/good. Someone is free to say that a game is ugly, but don't mistake that for constructive criticism. An example of actual constructive cricitism:
"The main thing is dealing with volumes; shading according to form. A lot of things in the image are treated as shapes, rather than 3d objects. Remember to break things down into simple forms like cubes, cylinders and spheres. The top 2 boxes in my edit are mainly just this in action, as well as taking points from my previous post. The bottom-most box is just some AA example.

Now that thedaemon has mentioned it, the mirroring is pretty obvious. Some places are easy to mix up a little, such as the borders on the grass."
Even if the tone were harsher, it'd still be constructive.

More stress should be put on custom graphics

I do make custom graphics for my game nowadays, but I like to do that part. I'm able to freely design my world and characters as to how I really want them to be. You don't need to be good at spriting to do this, but you may want to get feedback from other people on your sprites/tiles/backgrounds/art. But there's also the problem of some people being perfectionists, and constantly remaking and remaking sprites. THAT is time consuming. You won't make progress if you worry for days about making something look just right.

It does take extra development time, particularly music making for me, but I feel like it helps make a more unique atmosphere in the game. Having custom graphics/music doesn't automatically make the game good, but custom resources should not be a substitute for making a good game anyway. I think it'd still be good to give it a shot. No one starts out as an expert in making graphics, they practice and learn.

Otherwise, I think at least editting the graphics or mapping them in such a way to make it interesting and a bit more unique could help too.

Thank you! I hope to make more tilesets and maps for the game soon. Though right now I'm planning out some of the gameplay ideas I have.

Paradise Blue Review

Soundtrack comes from me, mostly. A few songs were composed for me by Kaede and Dajhail though.

How far did you get? There is a certain limit to your opposition, but it's not expected that you kill all of them and there is an area with unlimited fights.

The skip scene I mostly took from my previous game, and that's something I'm having in every game I make. If someone wants to replay the game and knows the story already, they can just skip it and play.

Paradise Blue

This game confuses me, Ocean!

How so? Is it story-wise or figuring it out gameplay-wise?

Paradise Blue

This is pretty great so far. I feel that Skie is INCORRECT about the music - I like it a lot and while I'm not humming it it certainly isn't forgettable.

That's nice to hear. I do agree with Skie a bit though, some of the songs are taken from the songs I made before I even started using RPG Maker, so they weren't made for this game in particular. But yes I still plan on making most of the soundtrack and trying to get them to fit and be memorable in the game. :3

Wow!This game is very fun! :D

Thanks, glad you're enjoying it!

This game is awesome. I love the graphic style, and it doesn't really make me feel like I'm playing another RPG Maker game. Great job on this.

I've gotten a comment like that before, and I'm very happy for it. What's amusing is that being said for what's basically an FF fangame, but it's nice to hear just the same!

How come everytime i download a game it doesnt open and it give me an error???

What is your error? This game should run without needing the program.

:D

Thank you for the feature! Also, glad that people are having fun with it too!

How do you like your hero?

The ONLY hero I want is a yellow spiky haired boy with a large sword and that doesn't care about the world, only is in it for the money.

But seriously, I like heros that are interesting, and not RPG archetypes. Sure I don't mind if they have some aspects of one, but I'd prefer them to feel like real people more than RPG character types. I also like female leads but I'm fine playing as a male character. I don't really like when the villain is actually smart, but the heros win only because they outnumber the villain and have ULTIMATE WEAPONS/SUMMONS, not because they do any strategic planning or anything (I mean the in game versions, not referring to players own strategies in battle). I wish they'd do more of that, outsmarting the villain rather than overpowering them. I like silly characters too, but usually the comic relief characters end up being useless and annoying rather than actually fun to have around from what I've seen.

Hero, anti-hero, I've had both, I'll like either if they're well written. I like it when the character is nice, but in a realistic way. Not going around paying off everyones debts to raise light side points and acting like a saint, but one who is nice and isn't stupid about it. No preaching to the enemies that violence is bad, when the whole game that's what the characters have been doing. Or taking a 30 minute cutscene feeling sorry for the evil character they killed. Sword of Mana, I'm looking at you.

This is why I don't really like the Good/Evil path games: I'd like the choices, but there are choices you'd like to use that aren't present, and they nearly always want to force you to either side just for the rewards. Instead of choosing what you want to say because that's what you'd want to say, you just pick the option you know will give you points to the side you want. So you can't get a evil character that seems nice to the world but is manipulative, you have to be pure evil and destroy everything and be mean to everyone for you to get those points.
