@psy_wombats- Nah, I think I'm going to continue to learn more about gml for gamemaker. I've made some progress so far in the last couple of months, but coding is alot like learning another language to me.

I'm pretty sure rpg maker users can use a workaround method by making a good portion of maps, number them, then randomize it through the use of values/switch/etc. Same goes for items placement, enemies, and everything else. Dragon quest monsters 1 did this trick and it became very noticeable later on in gameplay.

Working on a game starring lizardmen/dragonians where all humans are evil (for once).

As long as the game isn't cancelled, its fine. If it is, I'll be just like that girl in the comic.

What we did horribly on our first games.

Tried to do too many things in one game. Everything I thought of had to be custom. And because of that...well, you know. Beginner's mistake...

A time travel system - To the past and present.

Perhaps you can get some ideas from the ds game, Radiant Historia? It also dealt with time travel (through the use of a book, I think) where the main character tries to prevent an oncoming disaster. The second game I've played that had time traveling since chrono trigger..
