Your work lately has been making me want to pixel my own tiles. It's been a long time since I actually attempted it (like, we're talking 2011 long-time).

@Anorak: looking good so far. I'm quite intrigued by the fact you're using the RMXP charactersets with the DS+ tiles. I can't tell because of this screen's tint, but I'd recommend doing some hue shifting/colour replacement (possibly drawing on the original DS sprites) on any sets you have, because RMXP's palette is...a bit wonky, to put it lightly.

impossible. i'd get scolded by my fanbase (and you're working on the sequel, that's way more of an accomplishment than pretty maps!)

party ha--

wait i put that as the description of the last map that had painted stuff in it

uh

420 blaze it

edit: im thinking about fading out the lower parts of the sky. the original map has a sky pano, but i feel like in this one you should be able to see part of the top of the Garden...and I don't really want to try and paint that.

So... IGMC 2015

I was out of game deving at the time of the original IGMC, and I wouldn't mind giving it an attempt. I haven't exactly had the best luck when it comes to games made in a short time frame (ok, ok, games made in any time frame) but I've got a lot of ideas for this year (I want to win SOMETHING this year. Misao, IGMC, some contest in the future, idk. I'm going to win something.)

I do want to clarify that I didn't make these cliff tiles. I was really dissatisfied with the RTP tiles (you can see an earlier version of this map way back in the Images) so I went on a long and strenuous search and found these.

edit: pretty much if you would never in your wildest dreams be able to find a certain map tile that's really VIII specific (like the Dollet...mound-thing), I made it, otherwise I've probably spent way too much time looking for appropriate tiles).

hellll yeaaaaah

It is a TrueType font, interestingly enough. I got super lucky when I found it. It's called KaiTi, and if I recall correctly its Photoshop/Word preview shows up with foreign characters. I literally stumbled on it (and I am so glad I did, because I spent so long looking for appropriate fonts because SFonts was not playing nice.)

I decided to experiment after I was playing around with overlays and found the map looked good with gold in the top corner and dark grey in the bottom, so with a bit of fiddling I replicated it with the add and sub layers. No RM map tints on this one, ho ho.

What are you thinking about right now?

i think we should do a phoenix wright mafia game again

because i've actually played phoenix wright now, and holy fuck that game was good

Haha, if only it were unique...someday I'll take what I've learned about painting tiles from this game and apply them constructively, but for now this is for my FF8 fangame (More specifically, it's the first map when you enter Dollet). Since, obviously, a lot of the architecture in FF8 was unique, I've had to do quite a bit of custom tile painting.

I'm actually thinking about doing a painted-tile side-scroller platformer some time this year...we'll see how it goes.

I've yet to apply the shadows to this map, as I mentioned, so I guess that's the primary issue? I'll try making the bottom parts of the column half-column as well and see how that goes. I'm working from reference, but that arch isn't in the shot(it extends beyond the borders of the original map).

At the very least I can say my fangame has a unique flavour...huu huu.
