aren't you tired of being nice? don't you just want to go apeshit?

there's words for people who use AI instead of hiring artists and I'm not allowed to use them here, but i hope they know i'll see them in the northern territory

I a m waiting for this game very patiently. Any updates please?

I recently did an unarchived (to avoid giving too much away) stream, but there will be significant updates in the coming months, I'm actually about to post a few screenshots!

Screenshot_20240208_211055.png

I'll be going live in an (unarchived) stream as it hits midnight on the 11/2/2024 (FF8's 25th anniversary for the JP release) to discuss the original game, my own game, potential remake rumours, and whatever else comes up, as well as get some work done on an upcoming demo (!!)

Waiting room:

A.I. Generation and RMN

To be quite honest, I think taking a reasonably hard stance on AI at this juncture is extremely important in the currently-evolving landscape.
Take one look at the 'New' assets tab on Itch.io. It is flooded with feculent, regurgitated garbage-- barely edited generations asking for ACTUAL MONEY, many deliberately obfuscating their use of AI.

If RMN does not take this stance now, this is what will happen. It was ALREADY happening.

The argument for AI as a tool is an important one but in the current climate it barely matters. You have innumerable companies firing under the guise of AI replacement (when in reality its most likely general layoffs), you have pages of information being tainted due to AI search, Itch.io's asset page is unusable, and there are many, many planned class action lawsuits regarding these AI engines, ranging from the fact they contain medical data to the fact there was no permission gained for these datasets.

Eventually the landscape will change. In what direction, we don't really know.

This rule isn't about enemy AI or the photoshop healing tool or the proofreading AI injections coming into writing software. Look at the itch.io new assets page. That is what this rule is for. To avoid that.

Hi.

Sorry for the trouble but I just downloaded this game and it gave me an error on startup that said "Unable to find file Graphics/Tiles."

I copied the dll file into the proper folder the readme said to copy it into, I installed all the fonts, and I even installed the RPG Maker XP RTP, but nothing changed.

Could you please help?

Yup! Seems something went amiss with the file upload.

Here

Download and paste this file into the folder and the game should run no problem.

I've fixed the download as well.

That's odd...there seems to be more sporadic updates that the usual sporadic updates...

Any updates? Really looking forward to playing the game in full.

Thnx

Actually, yeah!

Expect some gamepage updates in the next few weeks.

Thank you for the review!

I do tend to gravitate toward duo stories, and overall I see Nachtheulen as the stronger offering of it and ReCrisis's available build. I hadn't thought about how structurally similar they are as games (mostly because ReCrisis is no longer an RPG in my current dev build).

As a little side note, the wings are part of Leander's coat, and the 'tail' is Fionn's hair.
Oh well, yes, the similarity was only about the "mercenary duo" theme (one cyberpunk, one fantasy).
Ah whoa! I totally expected these were true wings and tail! Like they were a vampire-bat and a vampire-wolf...

Aha, nope. Leander can grow wings under certain circumstances, but otherwise both are visually 'ordinary' at a glance.

They are technically differing species (Leander is a pureblood, aka was turned by the vampire Progenitor/vampire god, while Fionn is a second generation vampire {was turned by Leander}. There's not much degradation in power between generations, though there is some. Some of the lore in this game I've changed in terms of the overarching plot of this world (mostly the idea that werewolves are new), but the above has remained true.

Love the work on the background, very nicely done.

Hi, Excellent game really enjoyable. But can I ask what is new in the anniversary download? Is it just bugs fix?

Hiya,

So anniversary download is kinda jank right now (I'm working on a fixed version) but there's a fair amount of new content added. A lot of map overhauls, an entirely new dungeon segment, adjusted (imho upgraded) dialogue in a handful of sections, and revamped boss fights, alongside the major bug fixes.

Sometimes all you need to find the weirdest and most persistent of bugs is to play the game through with a fresh perspective.

Anyways, I just updated the list to clarify that technically the two move event locks are technically hardlocks as they can't be escaped without editing the game files, and I can confirm that the Mt. Fuji Cave passability issue was fixed on my end by setting the terrain tag of the cracked ice tile to 0. Many of these things just seem to be oversights from updated scripts/maps/music and are easily fixable, though I vaguely seem to remember being able to walk into the reactor void on that map back in v2.1 or v2.2 so maybe that one's just one that was never caught?

Anyways, I'll keep an eye out to see if I can spot any more than that. Keep up the good work!

EDIT - Aaaaand I found one!

9. This one's just a funny little sequence break more than anything. If you know how to get the secret character, you can actually get him as soon as you get the Ragnarok. You can even do this despite Levi being 'unavailable' at this stage, which will force Levi into your party, meaning you can have Levi in your party during the Volcanic Tunnels segment. (I don't think this affects anything other than immersion, but it's pretty funny.)
10. The hidden candy shop in Glaciera does not actually seem to work, the shopkeep says nothing and there is no shop window.
11. The dialogue for the Glaciera sidequest says there are 20 enemies to find, when there only appear to be 10.
12. The warpers on the left side of the map in Oak which has the entrance to the hideout are all broken, placing the player 2 tiles above where they should be, which is inside a wall and a softlock.

It's been a while, mostly because I burnt myself out on RMXP grinding to get this release done among other game work. A 3.1 is coming to remedy as many remaining softlocks/hardlocks I can.

As it turns out, it seems RMXP has some sort of internal issue regarding Wait for Move Route and Through that has cropped up as we've moved into the Win10 era. It might be something internally on CC's part, it might not, but pretty much the reason for the obvious softlocks is cutscenes I didn't change suddenly breaking. The Hotel is one, but the Ragnarok is another, and in some cases resolution is as simple as changing the means the character gets to an identical location (ie, move upper right/move up/ turn right vs move right/up/up/turn.) There aren't events in the way either.
I need to give the game a full run through to make sure every scene works. Hopefully, hopefully, once I'm done you'll be able to run through from start to end without a reload.

I also don't think Glaciera's candy shop is meant to be accessible, I'll have to check and delete the teleport because I certainly couldn't find it while playing. I'll make adjustments to anything overtly jarring but it won't be another big overhaul/bug fix like 3.0 was.
