I like to make video games, especially action RPG's.

I make games slowly. Call me slow. But quality is always better than quantity!

gamingw mascot

Oh, yeah, I've seen that thing. Blockman is/was definitely not modeled after it. (Blockman's sprite was made in early '07, I don't think Foget was the mascot then, but I never joined that community until late '08 or early '09, and as you can imagine, I wasn't there for long to realize this).

That guy totally resembles Foget.

Who is Foget?

It's looking really good. What do you mean placed by hand? Like... in a bitmap? Anyways, it's really shaping up nicely. The sprite is a little... frumpy, though. Is he a dwarf of some sort?

He is actually from the future and from another planet, and I tried to go for a "blocky" look, hence the games title: Blockman. He's not a human, so let's just go with that for now. ;)

And by hand, I mean w/o terraforming. Like each corner, each side piece, is clicked in place by hand. The ground/water/grass/trees don't "snap" around like it does in RM.

Finished the southern half of the starting town: A farming community.

(I'm actually building these maps in reverse order)...

Ghaa, maps are so hard to make in Sphere. XD There is no terraforming and I'm not using an RM-styled chipset, so the way terrain is laid out is way different. Everything you see is placed by hand. GAhh my hand!

Standards

My standards have changed. Before, I was like: I'll make a game because they are fun and who cares? Now, now I look at my games more critically. If you knew me, my release dates for my games have been getting further and further apart.

The last thing I released was for the compo here, but it was shabby, I have to admit. Although I would kick myself in the ass for doing such a sloppy job, I still feel that it's not really a noteworthy game anyways. My main title, Blockman, is really the third in it's series. I just looked at the other two and said, no matter how good that they were or could be, that they needed to be re-written, both in the code and in the story. And the art definitely needed an upgrade, as did the music. This is also why it's hosted here at RMN. Unlike the first two, I want to hit a larger audience. I want to be able to not critically review my game, but more importantly have others do the same as well. I no longer feel bottled.

I have also began to look more mechanically into game creation to bring about the best in all fields. This is where my standards have elevated me. But, I wouldn't be here first without accepting the standards that I had in the past. I think lowering your standards is good enough just to keep production moving, and increasing them whenever you need to tackle something important in the game.

There will be doors in the doorways, but I haven't made them yet. Also, yes, the well is symmetrical, but if you read my blog, it's for festivities, so the flowers and what-not around it are there for the occasion.

I could definitely try to change some things up, however, thanks.

Speaking of Menus...

How about a good 'ol Ring Menu?

Savior of the Gods

This for free... for a month!? There are better for free and for life!

This looks okay, but not that good to pay money for.

All spear and sword attacking directions are finished!

(It looks better animated). Next, I need to work on the stores and on general NPC's.

Also, I agree with Kaempfer and the bridge, along with almost all structural engineers.

@WolfCoder: The problem is that the menu is so minimalistic that 85% of the screen is blackened. Even though it's suppose to be "in focus", your eyes are drawn to the darkness that is at the middle of the screen. Perhaps make the menu bigger? Add icons? Extra info?
