Best Way to show a custom gauge in battle? (Rm2k3)
Why would any sane game making engine have you draw so many battle backgrounds? This is horribly inefficient. Even as an amateur game maker, nobody should do tedious labor to get the effect you desire. I mean, drawing 10% or 5% increments isn't hard, but do it for 10 backgrounds, and if you do not use .png compression, then the games filesize would suddenly balloon for very little logical reason.
But meh, I'm a coder, so I would use rmxp/vx, ika, or sphere.

Goals for 2010
I want to get Blockman released, perhaps even a demo, I would love for it to get featured, and hopefully rated moderately high. I may be new to this community by I'm definitely not new to game creation, and I've got high expectations for Blockman.

post=119781it would have been unconstitutional.Sorry to be picky, but the word you're looking for is "unlawful" or "illegal"; patents have nothing to do with any country's constitution.
Touche. But doesn't the country's constitution define what the legality is, to begin with? I mean in some countries you are forced to have a license while in other countries such as America, it's only limited to commercial usage. So I guess depending on the country it could be unconstitutional.

Yeah, it's kind of like Mp3s. Nobody cares really if you download and use them.
Interesting you brought them up. The Mp3 filetype by law used to be illegal to use in freeware applications, commercial applications had to acquire a license to use it. This is why RM2K never utilized the .mp3 filetype, it would have been unconstitutional.
Today the law still stands, but most companies now have the license (think rmxp/vx has .mp3 support), and for freeware applications? The courts let it drop. :)
Rpg maker Visual Sprite Novels
Sprites animate, so it's nice to see them do something as the story is told. A bit of interaction may not hurt, but then technically it would be a VN, right?

@argument coding and CSS: CSS is rather a scripting language, you work with a script not a code. A code implies there are abstractions to the way things are presented, while a script is more or less plain English.
(this is my opinion, take it or leave it, JavaScript is not necessarily a scripting language in my book, and RGSS is more of a coding language).

Not necessarily. My blockman game has a deobstruction algorithm which can push the player around non-tiled obstruction boxes, such as the those special obstructions WIP describes. If you've played SoM, you can see that the player goes around the rocks by brushing around them and not stop at a tile-based representation of it's base.
