Something happened to me last night when I was driving home. I had a couple of miles to go. I looked up and saw a glowing orange object in the sky. It was moving irregularly. Suddenly, there was intense light all around. And when I came to, I was home.

What do you think happened to me?

I thought XNA was deprecated?

Nope. It's no longer under development, but it's not deprecated, and it's certainly fully functional.

So I've been taking a Visual C# class for a month now.

Sounds like a job for XNA!

People, what are your thoughts on FFIX?

One of the worst professionally-made JRPGs I've played. The characters are totally forgettable at best and repugnant at worst (hi zidane). The gameplay is utterly broken, the random encounter rate is obscene, and the story is a predictable snoozefest.

I wonder if it's some subtle meta-joke that nine games in ten use the exact phrase "unique and engaging story" to describe themselves

"unique retro aesthetic"

So I guess the "Images looking for feedback" thing on the Dev portal failed, eh?

whoah

today I learned we have a development portal

suggested feature: removing mafia threads from the recent posts list.

Latest posts is where I go to see what the latest activity on the site is. When the mafia posts clog up the whole front page, I have no idea what's actually going on here.

CHRONO TRIGGER IS STILL A RETARD CABBAGE

I enjoy plenty of great games. Ironically enough, most people who say "stop being so jaded" are also the people who say "any game made after 1999 sucks." Sure, I could go on about how boring and derivative the gameplay was, but the story and characters of Chrono Trigger were particularly uninteresting and as the central focus in an RPG is on its story and characters, highlighting how it has failed in that regard is all I should have to say.
Just because you find a game forgettable/boring/a failure doesn't mean others do. You can't beat the majority. You have to look at it with a wider perspective/on a general scale, not from your own mindset.

You are entitled to your opinions, of course, but don't treat your opinions as if they are right in general.

Sure, that's a given, but I was responding to the comment "Chrono Trigger is the greatest thing in existence and still has great gameplay," which is just as sweeping a claim with no factual basis. Just because someone else finds a game good doesn't mean others do.

Lavos as an impersonal aeon spanning planetary parasite hasn't been beat yet as a villain and as a concept! Though Kreia and Darth Nihilus of KOTOR 2 come close.

You should play Nier.

(Although the KOTOR2 examples are indeed phenomenal, neither of them, and certainly not Lavos, can hold a candle to Nier.)

I played it for the first time as an adult and I can't name half the characters. It's one of the most forgettable games I've played...
You wouldn't recognize a good game even if it hit you in the head... Stop being so jaded, bro. B) You may not remember their names, but a bunch of characters from across time, getting to the bottom of a problem spawning eras, is not something you see everyday. You'd have a better argument attacking the game based on its mechanics alone than anything else: story, characters, music, pacing, even its graphics. Technical aspects aside, Chrono Trigger is still a game with plenty of depth.

Sorry but I have to disagree. While there are some games nowadays that are decent, compared to the jRPGs of yesteryear they are missing that special charm that makes them unforgettable. Chrono Trigger is still an unforgettable game, whenever you play it; most of today's jRPGs are forgettable.

I played it for the first time as an adult and I can't name half the characters. It's one of the most forgettable games I've played in recent years.
