What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?
Tales of Vesperia. Probably the best game I've played in a long time. Fun battles, lots of gameplay options, beautiful to look at and Yuri's probably the best lead character in an RPG that I can remember. Oh, and the Secret Missions make boss battles a lot of fun to try to figure out and add extra challenge for those who want to seek it out without punishing people who don't.
Best and Worst Zelda Game
author=Mitsuhide_The_Vagrant link=topic=3028.msg59066#msg59066 date=1233209259But you WERE playing a horror game. Well....a suspense game, anyway. The sense of urgency and the Groundhog Day plot were sort of the whole point of the game.
Second, and aspects such as this just really turn me away from certain games, was the fact that you were timed. Yes, I know that when the time ran out and the moon crashed you started back from your last save point, but with all of your collectible items were gone, but, come on, unless I'm playing a horror game, I don't want to have this sense of urgency because I'm racing against the clock. That's how I see it.
How about this; are there any cliches that you LIKE?
author=Feldschlacht IV link=topic=2906.msg59063#msg59063 date=1233209015No, maybe it's not a gameplay necessity if you don't mind your game being a chore to play. It's one of those things like skippable cutscenes and ubiquitous saving that are only in games where the developers cared about the player's experience and knew how to make a challenge that didn't rely on annoying the player until he either stops playing or checks a FAQ.Which is why if you want to focus on storytelling and writing, you need to be working in another medium. Storytelling and writing must ALWAYS take a backseat to gameplay necessities in a video game.
Being able to run away from a boss isn't a gameplay necessity. Not sucking, however, is.
Diablo 3 or Starcraft 2

(Also: Starcraft 2. I never cared about the Diablo series much. Point and click RPGs aren't my bag)
Well that adds another person to the small list of players who'd rather play starcraft.
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
author=Feldschlacht IV link=topic=3025.msg58923#msg58923 date=1233177231No, honestly it is. It's a show with a cast of morally bankrupt (but not actively malicious, most of the time) protagonists doing every day things and either because of their numerous faults or just because of the crapsack world they're living in, fail to accomplish anything particularly major, in amusing ways. It's a lot darker than Seinfeld, but it's the same sort of concept.
It's nothing like Seinfeld.
Keep in mind I really like Always Sunny (and Seinfeld for that matter), but it's because of the execution, not because it's some sort of revolutionary setup for a sitcom.
Final Fantasy 13 Delayed
author=captainregal link=topic=2940.msg59023#msg59023 date=1233201156I just hope it has at least one character that's at least half as entertaining as Balthier.
Trailor was not to bad looks great I just hope the story is better than 12.

I am sorry, but I have strongly disagree with you here. From a storytelling, and writing perspective, the ability to run away from a climatic final boss, or some other less-final, but equally climactic boss battle, destroys the climatic nature of the battle.
As I've said in the past, I don't really have a problem with pretty much any clichés. They're there for a reason and a decent storyteller is going to make them fun to experience because of the way the characters react to the situation. If you can't write a good story using a clichéd plot, you're probably not that good a writer anyway.
My favorites though are probably either the Magnificent Bastard villain or the Affably Evil villain. Which are tropes, rather than clichés, but it's not like the gaming community differentiates anyway.

Diablo II is crack cocaine (that, I'm told, was later refined to the powdered cocaine of WoW).
You have your hard drugs references mixed up. Powdered cocaine is unrefined, so it is less addictive and less stimulating than crack cocaine. Crack cocaine is made by frying baking soda and cocaine in a spoon - you can experiment with the ratios, but I make the best rocks with a ratio of 3/4 powder and 1/4 baking soda. Smoking rocks not only gets more cocaine into your system more quickly, but there is the added benefit of not tearing up your sinuses and getting nosebleeds and sinus rot.
I'd contribute more to the conversation, but I've gotta go get some baking soda.

Best and Worst Zelda Game
I think finding the worst Zelda game (not counting the CD-i games) is like trying to find the best cancer.
That said, I'd say the best was either Majora's Mask, Link to the Past, or Minnish Cap.
Honorable mention for Okami: the best Zelda game that isn't a Zelda game.

Mistwalker's Cry On (360) - Cancelled
From what I read, BoF isn't dead per se, like Capcom's not reading it's obituary or anything, they're just saying they've got no plans for another one in the near future. I'm holding out hope.
And you people who didn't enjoy Dragon Quarter are certifiably insane. Or possibly sane. The point is, you're not as cool as me and the other groovy cats that got it.
