How do you guys feel about pop punk?

I don't really know what pop punk is. But I like a fair bit of punk (it might be pop I don't know). Mostly Swedish "trallpunk". It's all from the 90s though because that's when I listened to that stuff. (and that's when it was pop)

And some earlier.

Too bad none of this is on Spotify. Goddamnyourecord people. Put that shit back up there.

What are you watching these days?

TV
I don't watch TV. But the TV-shows I follow through torrent sites are plentiful. I've really been digging Community and Glee which are both new shows for this Fall and are pretty darn awesome.

TV on DVD
If that means shows that aren't airing I'm in the progress of downloading Tudors which I hope will be good. And I'll start watching that as soon as I have more free time (next week)

Theatre
I'm in a revue that opens on Saturday. Though I guess I won't actually be watching that.

Cinema
I've decided to boycott cinema for the time being. Mostly because they decided to give Saw VI a theatrical release but not Zombieland!

FUCK YOU CINEMAS AND YOUR DISTRIBUTORS YOU SUCK.

Movies on DVD
I have a bunch of unwatched movies. I will have to do something about that. Including such films that I should have watched for Halloween but I just didn't have the time (Dead Snow and Day Watch)

Man why did I reply to this. I should have replied next week when I've actually seen some stuff instead...

I Have a Story Idea

This is actually the perfect month to have a story idea. Just scrap the whole game thing and throw yourself into the awesomeness that is NaNoWriMo instead. You won't need any programming skills. just story skills!

Kinda serious topic; how well do you guys/gals get along with your dads?

I like my dad. I guess. My parents got divorced pretty early on (eleven or twelve). But that didn't change that much in the relationship. Or perhaps it did. I think my father is the one that turned me into the science fiction geek I am today. Though he must have been subtle about it because I didn't really notice that he was hugely into SF until I was too.

Of course he did have all the Star Wars. And he did get me my first tabletop RPG for one of my birthdays (that would be my eleventh birthday, the only reason I remember is because on the box it says "for eleven and up"). And he did take me to my first SF convention.

I guess I get along with my father well enough. I meet him nearly every week.

Character Control in Platformers

This depends on level design and what kind of platformer we're talking about.

A game like Castlevania has a slight animation delay to stuff that happens. The character usually has the whip backwards before slashing it forward and even then it's forward for a little bit before you can really do anything else. But Castlevania is a platformer that is more focused on battling around than navigating tight platforms. (I think certain castlevania-esque platformers sometimes have delays between jumps as well. With a quick landing animation)

These controls tends to make a game slower and less... platformy.

In a jump-around and do shit game you'll want ultra-responsiveness in your actions. Landing on a platform that will fall down within a second and jumping to the next one before wallbouncing up to safety needs a certain amount of timing and there's nothing worse than some kind of animation that needs finishing before you can get to the next action in the group.

So if a platformer has a lot of platforming you don't want those crappy controls. However crappy controls are okay otherwise.

(One fairly recent example of crappy controls must be the puzzle/platformer Henry Hatsworth. It takes ages to get anything done in fairly complex platform levels. tssk tssk, what were they thinking?)

Halloween Contest Results!

I voted Twenties Flappers vs the Mummy, but Midnight Realm deserved a win. If the game wasn't broken it could easily have been a great casual hit. I would suggest developing the concept a bit more and make it playable unless you have other stuff that you'd rather work on. Because I think Midnight Realm has some great possibilities.

It just doesn't work right now.

Team Fortress 2 is currently $2.50 on Steam.

And speaking of Team Fortress 2 and all that other stuff there exists a (dead) RMN Steam Group as well. But if there's interest we could always try to revive it. I myself only really own TF2 (and Empire Total War) but I'm sure there are players of all kinds of online shooters around this community that could have some casual fun.

Or more likely you're all hardcore and boring whiners.

Team Fortress 2 is currently $2.50 on Steam.

TF2 also has some kind of Halloween thing going with a new map and achievements!

Nanowrimo

National Novel Writing Month.

50 000 words in 30 days.

I'm doing it. Just like I've (tried) to do it the last bunch of years. Anyone else over here doing it? It starts tonight so just thought I'd give you the heads up.

I would write something longer but to be honest I won't. Share your experiences and your story ideas here. As well as your nano usernames if you want. I'm obviously Shinan

Aside: Finding any decent quality recording that isn't filled with shit (like annotations or comments) on Youtube still takes too fucking long

*** Did You Know?*** that with a simple click of a button in the lower right corner of any video you can disable the annotations and comments (as well as enable subtitles for the videos that have them. And choose which subtitles you want to use for the videos that have multiple)
