Video games absolutely cannot be both 'art' and 'things I like and definitely not something that makes me uncomfortable' at the same time.

Erm... Are we going to start imposing arbitrary definitions on "art" now?
Nowhere does it state that art must challenge the boundaries of contemporary values. It doesn't even need to piss somebody off. If I draw a stick figure family representing my own, that is both art and well within my comfort zone, and who are you to declare otherwise?

Well it's the thing where... you know. All water is liquid, but not all liquid is water (and before y'all get nitpicky, nonliquid water is ice or steam). So all comfortable art is art but not all art is comfortable.

It is a pretty old argument by now. You know the one were game players go "but games can be art too!" and then when criticized from various art perspectives they go "but it's just a game!" It still happens too often.

I am too proud

I assume my victory over you in Company of Heroes is what made you realize your hubris.

When is RMN's birthday exactly, anyway?

The sub-thought in my head is to start with WIP (who built/made the site), and go from there. His join-date is February 4th of 2007, though, if I'm reading things right, the first post ever was on June 1st of 2007?

Doing some quick digging on this found that rcholbert also joined in February, Blindmind joined in March and ankylo joined in April. BadLuck apparently also joined before the site opened (on May 30th). (I wonder if there are more of those, from BadLuck's only public locker file he has a user id of 10)

But yeah I guess June 1st/2nd is where it's at

Also just as a by the way I hate that I really enjoy digging up this kind of information... I have stalkerish tendencies...

Third UK-based terrorist attack in the UK in four months, second in London. At this point I'm seriously considering going outside less

On the other hand there's more people in the London area than all of Finland so the odds of being one of the dead is incredibly tiny.

Of course the odds matter little too if you're dead.

I might actually have to play Far Cry 5 https://abload.de/img/img_4151ixywp.jpg

Well I just assumed they were all inbred.

Just applied for a programmer role at a games company outside of London! Quarter-life crisis in full effect

Are you moving to Reading!

Which one are you? Those who beleive in signs or miracles or those that beleive in luck?

I believe in probability.

Hey not to be an asshole but this forum is kinda dead, could you guys reccomend some active social hangouts (in forum form) that you like? My topics of interest are: Idle chitchat, pixel art, music composing, casual game making.

Well considering the thing ESBY commented on that might be what Mirak would like in their forums :D

I'm not really on much forums anymore. Though from what I've heard isn't RMW (or whatever it is called) basically this forum but with more activity?

Forums tend to... not be just random. Usually they are focused around some site or activity. I casually browse the Fear The Boot forums from time to time (because I'm a listener). The same with the Idle Thumbs forums. For casual gamemaking, but focused on AGS there's the AGS forums. I haven't been there in years so I don't actually know how active they are.

And saltw still exists I guess.

I guess there's probably also a bunch of subreddits dedicated to whatever interests. I assume those are kinda the free invisionboards of today.

EDIT: Yeah I forgot. itch.io also has a community thing. That might be worth a look.

This "Where will you be in 10 years time" thread from 2009 is super-interesting. https://rpgmaker.net/forums/topics/5343/

So many names in that thread. Makes me wonder what happened to some of them.
