How do people port their games?

iOS at least. Android as well would be nice, but iPad is where the money lies.

How do people port their games?

I had an email conversation with the guys who made the iTorque 2D engine and they're certain their program can make the sort of game I'm aiming for an publish it to iOS to boot. I need to poke around and read up on it but it might an option.

How do people port their games?

I'm fairly certain To The Moon still used XP. From what I hear they put it in the credits.

Yeah, I started learning a bit of Unity a little while ago and found it fairly intuitive (with a good tutorial of course). I wouldn't mind building a game in it, especially since Unity can make games for the Mobile market, but I want to stick to a certain style and I'm not sure if it can be done in Unity.

How do people port their games?

Hi all.

I am slowly inching toward making a game but I would eventually like to sell it. Forgive me, I know some frown on the whole "make an RPG Maker game for profit" thing but I'm of the mind that if I can do something I enjoy and make money doing it, then why the bleep not?

Any who, I have seen in my research people mentioning porting their projects using Unity and I was wondering if anyone knew exactly how this is done? I'm not so confused mechanics wise (there are simple add-ons you can buy to add in RPG mechanics)but more terrain wise. All the 2D stuff I've found (I bought UniTile) seems to be tailored toward making sidescrollers and such. I'd like to create a game of the top down variety and haven't had much luck figuring that out.

Congrats man! My wife gave birth on August 3rd to my own first daughter. I won't take over your topic too much, but here's a pic of Audrey.

Looking for Experienced and Talented Spriters / Scripters / Composers / Graphics People for Kickstarter Project

First off, you are going to need to shell out some cash, out of pocket. I'm hoping to fund an RPG as well and one of my biggest goals is to have a playable demo to go with my campaign that demonstrates not just the tone and style of the game I intend to make, but also that I'm personally devoted to the project. In turn, I've spent around $250 so far on custom music and a unique sprite sheet from a professional pixel artist. I'll probably wind up spending another $250 before I launch my campaign.

I understand very well the burden of financial limitations, but if you expect people to invest in your project you need to come to the table with professional grade products, and you're not going to get that with volunteers. There are certainly people who do this for free that can put out professional grade work, but they're already busy doing their own thing. If you look hard enough you can find affordable (enough) contractors out there. But you're kidding yourself if you think you're going to get the quality you need on a "pay you if we succeed" basis.

Also, perhaps I missed it, but are you planning on making the final game in RPG Maker? If so, you may want to reconsider the Kickstarter route. RPG Maker is an excellent tool and can make some great stuff, but RPG Maker games are hard to monetize. I am making demo in XP but I am going to be switching to an engine that can publish to the mobile markets. People aren't going to give you money if they think they're just funding your hobby. And as powerful as RPG Maker is, that's how it's viewed on the wide scale. As a hobbyist plaything.

None of this is to be discouraging, but you really need to be realistic going in. If you're not you'll invest time and possibly money into a project that's doomed to fail.

Oh, and I agree, change the name. "Exxception Draft" really does inspire a roll of the eyes and I don't imagine that's what you're going for here. Just drop an X.

Dialogue outside of text boxes (XP)

Hi all!

I want to have a brief section of an off screen character speaking. Since they're off screen I'd like their dialogue to show up outside of a text box. I've attached a picture showing off the sort of thing I mean.

The lack of direction in Dragon's Dogma. Not a bad moment so much as a bad mechanic, the fact that I just wandered for the entire time playing it made me feel like I wasn't making too big an impact. I mean, even in Skyrim if I wandered I felt like I was doing SOMETHING. Both games are good, but Dragon's Dogma didn't have that...feeling of accomplishment.

I had heard that. I was still really happy to see the game become successful though. It'll give the inevitable sequels a chance to improve.

What were people's feelings on the original Witcher? I've been trying to play through the first game before hitting the second and while I love the story and atmosphere of the game, I hate the combat. I feel so uninvolved through most of it and while I could just be doing it wrong (not bloody likely after fifteen hours), it just feels irreparably clunky.

Can you use XP style sprites in Ace?

Hi all.

I have been considering taking the plunge and upgrading to VX Ace. From what I've heard and read the flexibility of the program is vastly superior to VX and XP. Thing thing is... I hate the chibi style sprites and really prefer the three layer mapping of XP.

So I'm wondering, are you really restricted to chibi sprites and if you've worked with XP and Ace how much of a difference does the different mapping styles really make in the quality of the environments you can produce?

Was only really a problem in MGS4, otherwise the cutscenes were pretty rewarding.

I actually found MGS2 to be the worst. Then again that's probably because it had the worst story in the game. If it weren't so long you could totally center some drinking games around it. Take a shot whenever there's a double cross! Take a shot whenever Ocelet switches sides! ;)

@Archeia_Nessiah. Really? I loved the Moogle rescue! So silly and yet so charming. Pure 16-bit JRPG gold!

Others I've thought in the past few minutes.

Orzammar in Dragon Age just sucks. It's too long and the Dwarves are easily the least interesting part of the game.

Everything after the part where Cecil becomes a Paladin in Final Fantasy IV. While I understand why people love this game and I've beaten it several times myself, the story past this point just bugs me. Cecil's struggling with his dark nature and inner demons could have been the whole game for me. I couldn't two craps about Lunarians and all that nonsense.
