Commissioning Custom Resources (on a budget)

Hi all,

So I've gradually become more comfortable with RPG Maker XP to the point that I think I'd like to try and invest some time in a larger project. The thing is I really want to build something with unique resources (ie: sprites, tilesets, music, etc). I've already found a wonderful composer that's making music for me at a very reasonable cost but since I'm paying out of pocket I'm wondering if you all knew how much I could expect certain things to cost.

Namely:

Sprites- I know a local sprite artist but he's an exceptionally busy guy and so I know that I'm going to want another sprite artist to help. Does anyone know of any good artists and moreover, how much can I expect such services to run me?

Tileset- Same as the above. I want unique environments but I'll need to find someone to make them for me.

Scripts- As far as I can see I only need one unique script right now. I have some ideas for modifying XP's basic turn-based combat. Any ideas on how much hiring someone for that might cost?

Any pointers, ideas and suggestions would be much appreciated!

On the fence thanks to XP! (Literally)

I never really figured out what the problem was but I tried moving the fence from layer 2 to layer 3 and it now works perfectly. Wierd...

On the fence thanks to XP! (Literally)

The priority on the top left was at 5. Generally the rest of the tileset is responding as it should be.

I was curious so I walked my character over to the similar fence on the right side of the screen. The fence acted like a barrier as it should. I then went back to the fence at the center of the screen and experimented with it. The red lines in the picture below detail the areas where I can walk through the fence.

I'm really at a loss... so if anyone could provide some revelation or epiphany it would be great. Otherwise I'll probably just try remaking the map from scratch to see if it's just a weird anomaly.

I recently imported a tileset in XP and have been going through the database to fix up the priority and passage stuff. Anywho, despite setting up a fence to be impassable I find myself still able to walk over it. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong so I'm hoping you all might be able to help me with this conundrum. I've posted some pics to show off the tileset in question and its current priority, passage, and passability statuses. If anyone can pinpoint the problem I'd be much obliged.

How to end a Show Picture

I had it in a separate event and popped an Erase Picture in there. Cleared it right up! Thanks for the help all. I'm the type that never would have figured this out on his own.

How to end a Show Picture

I'm wrapping up a scene in RPG Maker XP. When the scene ends I want it to fade to black. The problem is that when the colors start to fade out, a Show Picture command I'm using sticks around. I've tried putting in a control switch to erase the Show Picture event but it's still there when things fade to black.

Any suggestions?

Show Picture Problems

Thank you kindly!

Show Picture Problems

Likely another easy fix, but I can't seem to use Show Picture properly. I am trying to create a glow around a campfire with a Show Picture command but the image I'm trying to show always winds up in the top left corner of the screen. I've tinkered around with the command, read up on it and just seem to be lost. Anyone have suggestions?

I've attached some pics:

Verincia, you're talking about the fire animation.

You mean a glow as in. The artificial one? The surrounding glow? Well, seeing as I'm not an avid XP user, I'd recommend a script. If not a script, then a picture which has an orange or yellow transparency to it covering over the fire graphic.

Is that all I need? Easy solution that I'm too dense to find yet again! :)

Many thanks!

Campfires...

Hi all!

I'm making a night time scene in XP and I wanted to have a campfire with a bit of a glow to it. I've looked up a few suggestions but, as seems to happen whenever I try something new, I'm at a loss... Anyone know of anything that might work?
